Happy grooming photos from first clinic

A big thanks once again to Carma and Julie for their hard work grooming dogs at the first clinic of the year for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. It is especially gratifying that people now bring in their dogs regularly for grooming. Following are Carma's photos and remarks:
WOOPS & JOE WILLY: These two touched my heart!  Both severely matted, BUT, friendly and well behaved little guys!!  I hope to see them again so I can provide some comfort and TLC!!

RELUCTANT CLIENT: Julie is pictured here with a little one that did NOT want to be groomed.  They were a comical pair as she tried to keep him on the table and not on her back!

SURRENDERED & ABANDONED PUPPIES: These are some the little ones that came to the clinic and changed our lives.  As you can see....Justine and Andrea wanted to hang onto them forever!!!

MOMMA: This beautiful dog belongs to a beautiful young woman, named Kim.  She is so loved.  Her hind quarters were matted.....I wish I could say that I did a great job....but...I had to shave her bum.  I hope to see Kim again at another clinic, so that I can check on Momma.  When I was done grooming for the day, I sat with Momma and brushed her.  I didn't want her to be alone while she waited for Kim to pick her up.  She is such a gentle dog, just laid with her head in my lap!!!  Thank you Kim for allowing me the privilege of meeting you.

MARTY FROM PONEMAH: Marty!!!!  What can I say!!!  He is the best!!!  He comes from Ponemah to Redby to be groomed.  He is always a mess, BUT, he is well..well..well...well fed!!!  His family loves him and it shows!  He is very well behaved, but usually his coat is a mess.  This time I found burrs, sticks, & lots of straw in his coat!  I think the straw must come from his winter straw bale house!

CHIP aka PICASSO: Chip is a Shih Tzu that comes to every clinic to be groomed!!  He has a brother named Dale!  Chip was stepped on as a puppy, but that hasn't stopped him in life!  He is a wonderful little guy and his family loves him dearly!!!  Julie & I look forward to seeing his "lovely", little face!!!

Minnesota Horse Expo this weekend

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue will be represented at the Minnesota Horse Expo, which is taking place at the State Fair grounds this weekend - Friday and Saturday 8:30am until 7pm and Sunday from 8:30am until 5pm.

We will be in the Sheep & Poultry Barn, booth #107, which is directly across from the Coliseum Arena.

For any of you horse fans this is a great outing to learn and see everything "horse". They also have tours of the University of Minnesota Large Animal Hospital.

RLRR will be there to expand our network and show off some lucky dogs that now have families of their own. We will also have some really nice homemade dog toys and treats to sell, along with RLRR bracelets, and T-shirts.

Stop by and say "Hi"

First RLRR spay/neuter clinic of 2013

The first clinic of 2013 went very smoothly. MN SNAP altered 70 animals, and we vaccinated another 40 that were already spayed or neutered. Thank you to Dr. Sue and her team, especially for braving the winter storms that were moving through Minnesota during their trip.
We had less surrenders, strays, puppies and kittens at this clinic, a hopeful sign that our s/n efforts continue to have a positive effect.
We helped a special boy named Ali, who had the worst case of porcupine quills most of us had ever seen. Although he was in a lot of pain, was starving and dehydrated, he was very gentle. The poor dog had to be anesthetized twice to get all of the quills out. They were down his throat, in his upper and lower palates and even his epiglottis. The quills you see in the bowls in the photo were half of the number removed. We were all sad to say goodbye to him.
Ali
Dr. Amy from Keller Lake Animal Hospital and Olivia from Como Park Animal Hospital came to help with the vaccinations and emergencies.  A big thank you to both of them, since without their help, many animals would not have been treated.

Claudia provided all of our delicious meals again – from gnocchi with pesto sauce to falafel with tahini. We ate incredibly well. A new volunteer, Tera, provided wonderful homemade chocolate dipped macaroons, vegan peanut butter cups, brownie cookies, and loads of other fabulous snacks. Thank you both for supplying us with such tasty bounty.
Julie and Carma washed, trimmed, brushed, and fluffed the animals. The RLRR clinics are getting quite the reputation for their expert grooming services! It’s great to see all of the return customers coming in for their annual, much-needed matt removal and nail trims.
Many volunteers made the trip to Redby, in unpredictable weather, to help the animals. Thank you to all of the dog walkers, pooper scoopers, crate cleaners, food and waterers, vax & worm restrainers, puppy cuddlers, dish washers, and laundry loaders/folders – Nancy H; Nancy G; Nancy O; Tom; Twyla; Heidi; Tiana; Courtney; Deb; Sandy; Heather; Jenny; Chloe; Jolene, and Daniel.

Movie Stars now appearing at Act V

Three pups were found at the dump and taken in by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and then Act V for foster care and adoption.

In order that there be no doubt again of how special they are, they were given the names of movie stars: Marilyn Monroe, Lauren Bacall and Audrey Hepburn. Can you guess which one is Marilyn??

Nodin's puppies

This story will brighten your Monday! Remember the blog post called "Porch Puppies and their Angel Mom"? Here is an update:
Mother's work is never done
Nodin's pups have grown like weeds.  The  five pups will leave next weekend into the foster care of Linda for All Dog Rescue.  It is hard to believe that these five very tiny babies have grown so large in the past four weeks.

Their mother Nodin also has gained weight and is feeling much better and producing large amounts of milk because she has a great grain free puppy kibble, canned dog food as well as vitamins provided by Linda.

Thank you to all the donors, rescues, and transports who help us locate, rescue and move these animals on to a bright future.

Karen
