Bug's Life

Meet Bug. When Red Lake Rosie's Foster Group received him, he was a MESS. Karen got him rehydrated then I took him home to foster.

He looked horrible and really smelled BAD. He was a dirty cream-colored dog, covered in sand burrs. There were even sand burrs in his mouth! He could barely eat or drink without being poked. Matts were all over and his ears had never been plucked, I'm surprised he could hear us!

Got him into the bath and what do you know? He's a WHITE dog. They said he was a poodle but he isn't purebred. Not really sure what he is a mix of. Had a vet tech friend come over to help me. We shaved part of his arm pits and his feet to get the burrs and mats off of him. Then we scissored his face to get all the mats, burrs, and eye goobers off his face. Shaved his ears to try and get some of the fur out of his ear canal(couldn't even see them) and found a sore under one of the mats. Found the smell too, it was/is his face! It is inflamed from all the dirt and mats. We put some soothing cleaner on his face to try to get some of that inflammation to go down. Also watched him drink and he didn't know what a bowl was. Also didn't know how to eat out of a bowl. We had to hand feed him.

The next day, we tried plucking his ears, but discovered there were mats in the ear too! We couldn't pluck the ears so we washed up his face again and then let him be left alone. Hand fed again on this day because still not quite sure about that bowl.

The following day, we took him to the vet. They plucked his ears which he was NOT happy with at all. Took his blood and took a fecal. Guess what? He is totally CLEAN. No heartworm/lymes and no parasites(except fleas)! We were just truly amazed at that! He also got LOTS AND LOTS of treats for being such a good boy at the vet. Then he got his rabies vaccine. Then out the door we went.

After that we went to Little Susie's Pet Parlor in Zimmerman, Mn((763) 856-7297) to get cleaned up even more. Tara is a WONDERFUL lady. She did a beautiful job on cleaning up his face and his feet. Looks like a totally new dog! Then I decided that it was time to let him rest for a few days. Hand fed a little out of the bowl and ate from the bowl too. Learning.

The very next day he ate his WHOLE dinner straight from the bowl.

Next up for my little Bug is crate training and his neuter surgery. For everything that has been done to this little Bug he is a REMARKABLE dog! He loves kids. Gets along with the dogs and cats and through everything you would think he would have bit us because of all the snarls, ear plucking, blood drawing, etc. This baby boy is a real sweetheart! Just 2yrs old and he has been through so much already.

I have told him that he will remain a handsome boy now for the rest of his life! Little Bug is safe, warm, and living a happy life!
