Rest in peace, Pearl

Pearl was one of the greatest dogs we ever had. She lived on her own west of Red Lake I am told for a couple of years raising her many litters, searching for food and had been shot more than once.

When she finally got to the shelter she had some pretty severe wounds and 4 puppies about 12 - 14 weeks old. Thankfully, she got to go to Animal Ark, and was adopted to a wonderful family.

Her 4 puppies also were adopted.

I am sad to hear of her passing, but happy she did not die out there with a litter of puppies from an infected gunshot wound. Thank you all who helped her- Polly, Nokomis, Animal Ark, and finally the family who adopted this great girl.

Sincerely, Karen and RLRR

FROM THE ANIMAL ARK BLOG:
We had a special visit today, which was bitter sweet. I don't know if everyone remembers our dogs, but Pearl was one of our dogs who easily made her way into our hearts - and one I will never forget!

She was one of our Red Lake girls that was rescued off the streets & needed treatment for a gun shot wound - which was her presenting "medical condition". Karen up in Red Lake nursed her through that and then asked us to take her at Animal Ark. She healed from her wound nicely, but then we received the bad news that not only was she heartworm positive, but she also tested positive for lymes disease and anaplasmosis. It just didn't seem like she could catch a break in life.

Heartworm treatment is a long, drawn out and pretty painful treatment & it is always very difficult for us to watch our dogs sit in the shelter for two months as they go through it. However, just then, Pearl caught a break . . . and a pretty big break in her streak of luck!! Two of the kindest, dog-loving folks walked through our doors and actually fostered her through her treatments & let her recover in their home. Well, Pearl never came back from foster care, unless it was to visit us & show us how she had transformed into the beautiful dog on the outside, who we already knew was on the inside.

Pearl was an adorable yet somewhat shy dog, so of course one of my favorites. She had a rough start to life and never really knew that she didn't have it good . . . but she found out in a hurry how to live the life of luxury.

Well, the reason I'm sharing all of this with you is because we had our last visit with Pearl at our annual Animal Walk. Pearl recently passed away with cancer.

We're glad she had a great life for her last years, so thank you to her family & we send you our sympathies!! Your story inspires us to keep going with the work we do!

Pearl left her paw prints on many
hearts. What a great little lady.
Thanks to the foster family and
Karen for providing a second chance for Pearl.

That's true, Karen. Pearl finally knew some peace and comfort in her life. There was an end to her suffering. Rest in peace, Pearl. See ya on the flip side.
