Isabelle (Part III): Updates on puppies

ZED IS STILL WAITING FOR A HOME
ZED (note from foster caregiver Linda):
I've had a few applications for Zed but they all fell through. He is a very active, curious boy - first one up the steps. Loves to chase after his "foster doggy mom" Charlie. A first time home and someone without small children would be the best scenario for him. Would love to see him go home to a home with another dog to help "train" him. Learn about adopting Zed HERE.

NOTES ABOUT ADOPTIONS OF THE OTHER "Z" PUPS (from foster caregiver Linda and adopters):

ZABRINA & FAMILY
ZABRINA (note from Linda):
Zabrina went to a first time dog owner couple, no kids, who just LOVE her and she is already in obedience classes.

ZAC & FAMILY
ZAC (note from adopters):
"Sam changed Zac's name to Finn and he is doing wonderful. Sam is beyond thrilled!!"

ZAMBONI & FAMILY
ZAMBONI (note from Linda):
Zamboni went to a young couple who works split shifts and just moved into their first house - he will be spoiled for sure.

ZEKE & FAMILY
ZEKE (note from adopters):
"Everything is going very well with Zeke! We renamed him Darwin. He is fitting in very well with the family and older brother, Turbo. Turbo has been helpful in training him. Potty training has been going great. We are down to maybe 1 accident per day in the last week. He sleeps through the night without problems. Darwin is a very sweet, smart boy. He often looks like he is just calmly taking everything in. He already knows how to "sit" just from observing Turbo. Darwin tends to go with the flow. If the family is doing something quiet, he tends to be a quiet little snuggler. He also loves to play. He has done well with the holidays and family excursions. Over Christmas he took his first long car trip up to Brainerd for a few days."

ZODIAC & FAMILY
ZODIAC:
Zodiac was just adopted - congratulations on finding your forever home, Zodiac!!

ZORRO & FAMILY
ZORRO (note from adopter):
"Things are going great with Teddy (formerly Zorro)! He has really become a part of the family. He has taken a liking to our older dog Joey, and Joey has come around since the first couple days. They love to play in the snow together and they eat their pig ears right next to each other!"
ZULU & FAMILY
ZULU (note from Linda):
Zulu started getting lots of apps but went a fantastic family with older kids and an older dog - she is going to be thoroughly loved, no doubt about it.

ZUNI & FAMILY
ZUNI (note from adopter):
"Zuni (now known as Delta) is doing wonderful! She's growing so fast, at least in my eyes. We are working on the potty training and she's getting the hang of it but definitely still has her accidents.
She has met many people, and many dogs, and loves them all. She loves to play with other dogs, and play she does! Even if the other dogs are tired out, she still wants to continue. She's mouthing and chewing on everything and everyone she can get her little teeth on, but I have found a few toys that she really enjoys that can distract her quickly. I'm so in love, I could go on and on about her. But overall, she's great."

Zeke is now Paddy

UPDATE FROM RED LAKE ROSIE'S RESCUE FACEBOOK PAGE: Coco's Heart would like to update you on Paddy, formerly "Zeke". He is doing very well and is a volunteer favorite. He is perfect for bath time, walks, car rides, and plays with all other dogs, cats and kids perfectly. He is very sweet and loyal. His leg is healed. He goes back to the vet next week for his booster and neuter and will be ready to find his forever home.
He wears his sweater and froggie-booties with pride:) He is adorable and we are so happy to have him with us until he finds his forever home. Thank You for all of your efforts for Zeke and other dogs on the reservation.
Here is a picture of Paddy this morning enjoying his favorite stair waiting to bask in the sun spots. Thank You Karen, John and all other volunteers for caring for him and helping get him to rescue. -Coco's Heart Dog Rescue

Christmas wishes come true for little Zeke

It's Christmas Eve at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and I want you to meet Zeke. A little brindle shep/terrier mix- about 12 weeks old.
This little guy came on December 1st after he was found by Avis at the Redby garbage dump. He had mange, starvation --both prenatal and neonatal-- and was dehydrated.
For the next 23 days Zeke was kept in an outdoor kennel, alone, being treated for mange. As Zeke began to get good nutrition, he began to develop rickets, which is not uncommon with puppies here. When starved puppies get food, their bones begin to grow, but they grow unevenly. The good news is that they WILL straighten out. (See Bart the Dumpster Dog on Facebook who had similar symptoms)
Zeke got his Christmas wish today and he will be leaving for Coco's Heart Rescue on Thursday, December 27th to a foster home.
A very bitter cold with windchill has arrived so Zeke moved in the cathouse tonight and is nice and warm. Thank you Avis, Tom, Nancy, John, and Coco's Heart for helping little Zeke!

Transport to Animal Allies in Duluth

Nancy answered the call on Friday November 2nd to transport a load of 37 animals from Red Lake, Leech Lake and Bemidji Pound to Animal Allies of Duluth. With winter impending, we are happy to move animals to warmer facilites where they have an opportunity for adoption.

ALPHABET PUPS
Riders from RLRR included the dogs Tammy, Snooki, Lily, Brownie, Scruffy, Jillian, as well as a litter of 6 sheps and another litter of 2 labbies.

SCRUFFY
LILY
BROWNIE
SNOOKIE

The cats included Harold and Toki, a orphan litter of 3 that went to foster care, Zach, Jack, and Zeke plus a litter of 3 grey tabby kittens from Bemidji area.

Many of the dogs and puppies are the remnants of the clinic surrenders.

JILLIAN
Jillian is a very sweet little dog, who needed help walking on a leash.

TAMMY
Also Tammy, who has been here for the second time, now gets a chance to be adopted. Tammy came in last winter with a litter of pups which we weaned and sent off, except for one pup and Tammy who was spayed and returned to the owner. Unfortunately, Karen got a call in October that Tammy's owner had moved out and Tammy was homeless, and her puppy was hit by car and was dead. Of course we went to search for Tammy and found her with porcupine quills and very thin. She was frightened and took a while to catch, but came around real quickly at the shelter. So this in a sense is her third chance at getting a safe and stable home!

ZEKE
ZACH
JACK
The kittens were all darling. Zeke, Zach and Jack were all rescued by Polly from the Red Lake garbage dump.
The tiny litter of orphans kittens were found in the woods in Ponemah and were rescued by Curtis who brought them to the shelter.
A special thank you to Dr. Wictor of Animal Allies and Nancy for helping get these animals out with hope for good homes.

Sincerely, Karen

Pet Haven adopts out 5 Red Lake dogs in 8 days!

Red Lake Adopted Dog Monday

Wow, this is the best week ever for the Red Lake dogs in our foster program. We had five of them adopted in just over 8 days!

JULIUSOur boy Julius saved from the woods by Karen of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue-as were all of the dogs listed here-found his forever home on Father's Day. Julius is living out in Lake Elmo in a cabin-like environment which certainly suits a dog from the country. He got along with the cat right away. And lucky for Julius his auntie is Danielle a trainer from Canine Coach. So if he has any questions about training his new parents he knows who to call.

HUNTERHunter now Mick has a cushy life in Apple Valley. He has a work from home mom, lots of woods to explore, and a deck just for lounging on a Sunday morning. This dog came in to Karen's with a tongue that had been badly burned. He is still learning how to use it again. Here is what the new mom had to say, " We left him home alone for a couple of hours last night and he was fine. Before we left we wondered if we should close the door to the laundry room where we keep all our shoes. Paul said "No they are mostly your shoes he can chew those if he wants". Arriving home there was one shoe in the center of the living room (undamaged) and it was a great big ol' mens tennis shoe. HA Good Boy Mick!"

COPPERCopper now Duncan lives with a Golden named Cooper-hence the name change. He has kept his new parents busy trying to figure out how to keep him from climbing the fence. Duncan seems to think the grass is greener, the people are more friendly, and the squirrels much more interesting on the other side. Sometimes the rez dogs take a bit to settle into city life. Stay tuned for photos of Duncan's new hairdo. The groomer worked on his coat for over two hours.

ZEKEZeke our little terrier mix went to live with a family that had adopted a Pet Haven dog in the past. The parents are retired so Zeke will not be home alone for long. And the 16 year old son has lots of sports events to attend with his new dog. Zeke has come a long way from living alone behind a gas station.

SHILOHShiloh found her new home with a friend of her fosters. He owns a natural pet food store and takes the dogs with him to work everyday. He has another rescue dog that is a bit shy too just like Shiloh-or Shy-bun bun as her fosters called her. Congratulations to all these poochies and their new families! Thank you for considering rescue dogs.

And a big shout out thank you to Karen Good of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue for all she does for the homeless dogs and cats on the Red Lake reservation.

Dogs transported after the June clinic

We have had a few dog transports since the Animal Ark / Akin Hills clinic.

We had a call on Sunday May 30th that Emery, a smaller breed dog was injured the previous night, cause unknown. The owner thought it may be a bear attack, as little Emery was known to fend off bears. The owner did not have the money to take Emery to the vet so he was surrendered.

His side was gashed open so Clearwater Vet sewed him up and he remained at the shelter until June 5th. Dr. Bartsch of Akin Hills was thankfully here during the clinic to redo the surgery and insert a drain tube.

Carol provided "round the clock" care for him at the warehouse and lots of tlc. We are so thankful that All Dog took Emery on Sunday and we are very hopeful for a full recovery. Thank you all for helping Emery move on from a very dire situation to one of hope.

MUTT & JEFFMutt and Jeff also went to All Dog Rescue.

BENNYJeanette transported Benny to MARS.

HARVEYCHUCKYZEKEHarvey, Chucky and Zeke went to Pet Haven.

SMITHSmith, german shepherd pup, went to Tricounty Humane Society.

MILES & PUFFYMaria, a mama dog, and her two pups, Miles and Marla went to Animal Ark.
