Transport to Animal Allies in Duluth

Nancy answered the call on Friday November 2nd to transport a load of 37 animals from Red Lake, Leech Lake and Bemidji Pound to Animal Allies of Duluth. With winter impending, we are happy to move animals to warmer facilites where they have an opportunity for adoption.

ALPHABET PUPS
Riders from RLRR included the dogs Tammy, Snooki, Lily, Brownie, Scruffy, Jillian, as well as a litter of 6 sheps and another litter of 2 labbies.

SCRUFFY
LILY
BROWNIE
SNOOKIE

The cats included Harold and Toki, a orphan litter of 3 that went to foster care, Zach, Jack, and Zeke plus a litter of 3 grey tabby kittens from Bemidji area.

Many of the dogs and puppies are the remnants of the clinic surrenders.

JILLIAN
Jillian is a very sweet little dog, who needed help walking on a leash.

TAMMY
Also Tammy, who has been here for the second time, now gets a chance to be adopted. Tammy came in last winter with a litter of pups which we weaned and sent off, except for one pup and Tammy who was spayed and returned to the owner. Unfortunately, Karen got a call in October that Tammy's owner had moved out and Tammy was homeless, and her puppy was hit by car and was dead. Of course we went to search for Tammy and found her with porcupine quills and very thin. She was frightened and took a while to catch, but came around real quickly at the shelter. So this in a sense is her third chance at getting a safe and stable home!

ZEKE
ZACH
JACK
The kittens were all darling. Zeke, Zach and Jack were all rescued by Polly from the Red Lake garbage dump.
The tiny litter of orphans kittens were found in the woods in Ponemah and were rescued by Curtis who brought them to the shelter.
A special thank you to Dr. Wictor of Animal Allies and Nancy for helping get these animals out with hope for good homes.

Sincerely, Karen

Puppy Packer fan??

Here is an update on Jack who left Red Lake Rosie's Rescue as a mangy matted puppy with no hope. Now he is a fine healthy boy and now is adopted!!

We love what ARVSS does to transform our little sick puppies. They are never particular about their condition and always seem to help them become the beautiful animals they were meant to be!.

Thank you Matt, Susie, and ARVSS fosters!!
Sincerely, Karen, RLRR

NOTE FROM ARVSS:
Hi, Karen
The puppy you named Jack --and we had to rename Malcolm because we have had too many Jacks in the rescue already--is now named Lambeau :)

The family took a long time in picking him out! They were also looking at Anita and the two Shih tzu's :)---But Dad bonded with the little boy right away!

I have attached pictures of when he arrived at ARVSS, after we shaved his mats and with one of his new owners!

They tell me he is just the best puppy and they are thrilled to have him :)

End of July visit & transport

Mike and Lauren visited Red Lake Rosie's Rescue July 29-31st. As always, they worked very hard with the animals and making improvements at the shelter. They also brought much-needed canned catfood and some kibble.

STACEY/BRILLOThey vaccinated all the kittens, wormed and applied revolution to all the cats in the cathouse - and there are many- nearly 40. They also did most of the chores when they were here.

SNOW WHITE AND HER FIVE DWARVESMike used the Bobcat and skidded out a large tree that had fallen during a windstorm. He also did some brushing with the Billy Goat.

MOVING LOGBURNING BRUSHThey left on Sunday with Snow White and her five kittens and Stacey, enroute to Act V. Also, Jack the Golden Retriever going to RAGOM; Augie to Tricounty; and Smiley to Pet Haven.

SMILEY & FRIENDSVolunteers are so helpful to the project and we are able to get so much done when people come.

JACKThank you Mike and Lauren and all volunteers who take time out of their busy schedules and travel great distances to come and help out.

Jack's just grinning about his new home

UPDATE FROM RAGOM:

UPDATES:
08/11/2011:

Our Jack had a rough start in life, but those days are no longer. He has been adopted by the absolutely wonderful M family, and has a totally committed Mom and Dad, two very special sisters, and let’s not forget Skittles the cat (who they assure me does exist!). His Mom works from home, so lucky Jack won’t be left alone very much at all. He gets to play in their wonderful new back yard, and will also keep very busy going on walks, playing with all of the new toys they brought home for him, and he also gets to go on vacation to the cabin! And he has a new hedgehog! As mentioned above, his favorite toy was a stuffed hedgehog, which unfortunately my Belle got a hold of and unceremoniously de-stuffed. One of Jack’s new sisters saw a virtually identical hedgehog at the store, and brought it home just for him – I can’t tell you how adorable he looked wiggling from end to end, with that big, fluffy toy in his mouth!

Though it is always difficult for me to let a dog go, I know in my heart that he is going to be absolutely showered with love, and gently encouraged to be all the dog that he can be. I simply couldn’t ask for anything more. Congratulations to the M family, and congratulations to dear, sweet Jack – another perfect RAGOM match!

Just Jack :-)

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue just sent another sweet golden retriever to RAGOM (Retrieve A Golden Of Minnesota). I suspect he'll find a home very quickly!

JACK AT RLRRJack was surrendered by his owner because she is ill and cannot care for him or afford to buy food for him.

JACK WITH FLY GOOPHe seems healthy, but is very thin and both of his ears have wounds from flies eating on him. He is in an outdoor kennel here at the shelter and I put fly ointment on his ears, but I'm so pleased RAGOM will take him.

Peace- Karen Good

JACK IN FOSTER CAREFROM RAGOM WEBSITE:
Jack #11-257
(Fostered in Apple Valley, MN)

I am extremely proud to introduce magnificent Jack! Jack is approximately 1 ½ - 2 years old, is a PB golden retriever, and is a beautiful light reddish color. He is a tall boy, and is on the thin side, weighing approximately 70#. One of the first things you will notice about Jack are his incredibly expressive deep brown eyes. They’re absolutely beautiful, and look as if they’ve been rimmed with black eye liner! Jack came to us from another rescue group, and was originally surrendered as his owner was ill and no longer able to provide food or care for him. We are thrilled that he is now a RAGOM dog, and I will do everything I can to find the perfect home for him – he deserves no less! Thank you to everyone who took part in caring for him and getting him into RAGOM, including his wonderful temp fosters!

Jack has been to the vet, did great there with all the poking and prodding, and is now up to date on all of his vaccinations. He is heartworm negative, microchipped, and has been given his heartworm and flea/tick preventatives. He will be neutered on Friday 8/5. Though totally asymptomatic, he did test positive for Lyme’s, so will be an antibiotics for one month. He lived almost completely outside before, and has some sores on the top of his ears from fly bites. (A shot of one of his ears can be seen in the picture below of him playing.) These are healing well, and per the vet, we are simply treating them with over-the-counter Neosporin.

Prior to picking up Jack from his temp fosters, they indicated “WARNING – you will fall in love with this dog!!” Well, guess what, that is absolutely the case! For a young dog (or any age dog for that matter!), Jack has an incredibly sweet, gentle demeanor! He has already become a velcro dog, following me from room to room, and sleeps at my feet when I’m working on the computer. He absolutely is thriving from attention, and his tail never stops wagging – he’s truly one of the happiest boys I’ve ever seen! He loves toys, balls, tugs, and chews, and was absolutely hilarious as he emptied the toy basket, greeting each toy almost as if it was a long lost friend! He always greets us at the door with some toy or another in his mouth, wiggling gleefully from end to end, and making the sweetest, moaning noises! Though timid at times, he also gets along well with the two resident dogs, and most recently engaged in a fun game of tug with foster sister, Belle!

Jack is completely housebroken, which is an extremely pleasant surprise! He is fabulous in the car – no problems whatsoever. He pulls on a normal leash (he’s a young guy after all!), but is making great progress in learning to use a gentle lead. He is totally enjoying our twice daily walks, and already is showing the excitement the residents do when they know it’s walk time! He apparently lived and did well with children in his prior life, and absolutely adores my 16 year old son and his friends. I do not know how he is with cats, but will get him cat tested if necessary. He is not destructive at all (one of his favorite toys is a soft, stuffed hedgehog!), and I’ve seen no evidence of counter surfing or garbage digging.

We are working on commands and manners with Jack, and as he is a smart boy and extremely eager to please, he is learning very quickly! I believe he would benefit from and totally thrive with obedience training, to become everything I know that he can be! As he is young, he will also need to be consistently exercised and played with, but as I’ve indicated previously, he is amazingly calm in the house. We do not have a fenced yard, and he has done well with a long lead and his walks, and I think he would be able to learn the boundaries of a yard very easily, should the yard of his prospective family be unfenced.

There is only one thing I’ve found so far that Jack really doesn’t like at all, and that is a crate. Though his teeth are pearly white, they are definitely worn down, and it appears that he may have spent far too much time in a crate, trying to get out. His temp fosters gave him free roam in their house, as have I, and he has been completely trustworthy. I would like to see him go to a home where he is baby-gated into a space such as a laundry room, kitchen, etc., until the family feels comfortable giving him free roam, rather than using a crate for him.

Jack will be ready to go home a few days after his neuter, and would love to meet prospective applicants in the meantime!! I’m absolutely crazy about this sweet boy, and know that he is going to be loyal, loving, and life-long companion for some incredibly lucky family. You couldn’t ask for any more than you’ll get from our Jack – he’s fabulous!

12 pups to ARVSS

Twelve pups went to ARVSS (Animal Rescue and Veterinary Support Services) in Wisconsin. Each has their own story of survival and how they came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

ASHAAsha was brought to the shelter one night very late. She was found at the Red Lake dump and a very nice lady brought her all the way to the shelter. She is a very sweet girl.

PANSY & PEONY HIDING JACKThe most needy of these are Pansy, Peony and Jack who were found in Red Lake by Carol. They were very mangy, malnourished and dehydrated. They are in good hands with Susie and Matt.

ANITAA little lone pup- Anita was found in Red Lake.

CHINOOKARDONChinook and Ardon came from the Bemidji Pound on their day 5 when they were to be euthanized.

HART SHEPSThe little litter of 4 sheps were brought here by the Harts. We were able to get the mother dog spayed at Cleawater Vet on July 11th so she will have no more pups.

We are thankful that community members take advantage of our spay/neuter program.

Thanksgiving transport, part I

FROM KAREN:
Dear Denise:
It was great to see Twyla again and meet her children.

They came to the shelter on Friday, November 28 with a load of dog food and supplies from Animal Ark and friends.
They also took out 10 dogs/puppies to Animal Ark, Nancy Brule, Pet Haven, and Tricounty Humane Society in St. Cloud. The shelter was quiet after they left because we only had 13 dogs/puppies and 3 cats. But, not for long, as we took in Corkie the Collie, a cat, and a puppy since she left.

Thank you for the tranports, food and, most of all, placements for the animals.

Sincerely, Karen Good and RLRR
