Mother's Day transport

Nothing seems to stop our loyal transporters O'Sullivans and Barbara Olson! Once again they answered the call today and took 12 dogs and pupppies on to rescues in the metro area. Also DeeDee took leg 4 of the journey to Owatonna with Bill.

BILLBill, a purebred German Shepherd boy, went to Second Hand Dogs in Claremont. Nancy and Tom fell for this guy who rode in the backseat of the club cab. Turns out, he is a 65-lb lap dog!

CHARMAINECHARMAINE'S BROKEN REAR LEGAlso special cargo was Charmaine, a juvenile shepherd with mange and a badly broken rear leg. She went on to Dr. Vickie at Act V who will help her.

SHALLAHSUNNYShallah and Sunny are two pups found at the garbage dump along with Charmaine by Polly. They went to Second Hand Hounds foster care.

LOG DENSEVEN PUPSThe little litter of 7 pups found in the log den went to Animal Ark into foster care with Linda. We heard that they arrived safely and are becoming accustomed to their new home.

JANEJane, the little tricolored girl, was found 2 weeks ago on a highway in the middle of nowhere by Carol Priest with with Jana and Juggs. Jane went to Pet Haven and now only Jana remains at the shelter.

Willow's Visit

Miss Willow from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue came to visit Rescue Buddy Boarding for a few days while her foster was in Las Vegas.

WILLOW CLOSEUPA little shy at first it did not take her long to become close pals with Buddy . Willow followed him all around the yard learning how to sniff out rabbits and bark at squirrels.

WILLOW & BUDDYGideon and Bishop met Willow when she first came to the cities from the reservation. At that time she was confused and standoffish. During this meeting however Willow definitely showed them she could play with the big boys.

WILLOW WITH GIDEON & BISHOPThen it was Mister's turn to get to know this sweet girl. They had lots of playtime before breakfast was even served. Being 8 months old Willow had lots of energy. At times she was even too much for Mister.

WILLOW & MISTERWillow and Mister spent the afternoons playing tug-o-war in the living room and "chase me" in the backyard.

WILLOW & MISTER TUG-OF-WARWe so enjoyed getting to know Willow. She has a permanent smile on her face. And why not. She is going to her forever home this weekend. Happy Trails, Willow!

Happy Mother's Day to Jessica!

Back in September of 2009, Karen received a call about a skinny sick dog with 14 pups that were dying. Jessica and her pups came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and seven pups survived.

URGENT: Dog with mangled leg in need

Dear Friends:

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue took in a dog we've called Bronson Tuesday afternoon from the housing projects in Redby, MN. Bronson had a mangled rear leg (cause of injury is unknown to us). We took him directly to the Clearwater Vet who confirmed that the leg was infected and, in fact, decomposing. It was necessary to amputate the leg today.

Bronson is a 1 - 2 year-old shepherd mix, who should weigh about 60 lbs, but is very thin now. He is a very nice boy who did not complain once even in his terrible condition. He has been tested heartworm negative, Lymes positive. He has been sedated and on antibiotics and IV fluids since we got him to the vet.We desperately need foster care for this dog that can provide the aftercare he needs, either through another rescue or a volunteer for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. We can transport him this weekend and need to do so because he cannot get the care he needs here.

Also, the bill for Bronson's vet care is $630.00 and we really have a limited vet budget -- We have money that is designated for spay/neuter, but hardly anything for general medical.

Saving Ferris

We got a call on Tuesday that some people had a very sick puppy and needed vet help, so we took in this little boy we called Ferris.

He has some very unusual symptoms including swollen neck, high fever, breakout lesions of the face and very painful joints.

He spent time at the Clearwater Vet in Gonvick and was transferred to the care of Dr. Vickie, Act V on Sunday, May 2nd.

We are so thankful to have Act V helping us with our sick and injured animals.

DEEDEE COMMENTED:
Barbara nursed little Ferris who was suffering from a severe case of puppy strangles (juvenile cellulitis). Ferris was unable to walk, was in a lot of pain, and needed fairly constant care and medication.

UPDATE FROM DR. VICKIE AT ACT V:
Ferris is much improved today. He started to walk and looks better. He's on 2 pain medications, antibiotics and prednisone. He has a process called Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy in his wrist and hock joints. Hopefully he will recover uneventfully from that.

Ferris is doing great and loves his foster home.

He is running around and a shepherd named Sable from the rez in Wisconsin is taking care of him.

ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation

Notes from DeeDee

Barbara and I drove up to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue for the first weekend in May to deliver the new cat condos and transport some animals back with us.

CAT CAGESBarbara Bowman designed the wonderful cat condos and had them made. The cages are bright and cheery and provide a lot more room for the cats awaiting placement at the shelter.

BARBARA AND CAT BEDSAlong with setting up the new cages, Barbara deep-cleaned all of the older cat cages and organized the food and bedding, as well.

MAMA PLUS SEVEN ENJOYING THE NICE DAYAmong the 26 animals transported on May 2 were a mama shepX and her seven two-week old puppies. ARVSS, a rescue near Madison, WI, took the mama and pups and 10 other puppies and dogs! Mama and pups relaxed in St Paul before she and the others moved on to Wisconsin.

They require MUCH time and dedication to find rescues willing to accept animals and volunteers ready to make the drive. Then it all has to be coordinated.
