Sunny is on the mend

One cold December day, we got word that a family in Red Lake had moved out of their home and left two adult dogs behind. One was a shepherd mix and the other a chow mix. The chow mix hopped on three legs and both had no food or shelter. The future looked very bleak for them.

Dan of Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue responded and brought the boys to the shelter . We named the little orange chow “Sunny” and to match his very sunny disposition. He was a wonderful dog.

We took Sunny to the vet on December 10th where he was neutered and vaccinated. Sunny also had heartworm, lymes, and anaplasma. An x-ray of the front leg determined that he had an old gunshot wound in the elbow. Poor Sunny might never be able to use that front leg again!

Who would shoot such a friendly and nice animal?

Sunny remained at the shelter and we wondered who would take on this boy with all the medical problems? Then, our friends at Pet Haven stepped up and took on Sunny. He has been treated for heartworm and his other maladies and now 6 months later he has just had the front leg amputated and is doing well.

We are so thankful to Pet Haven and how they went the extra mile to help Sunny, once a homeless dog with all the health problems possible, to now have a hopeful and great future.

We appreciate the rescues who help give hope to our hopeless ones.

Sincerely, Karen Good

NOTES FROM PET HAVEN:
January 11
Sometimes we get a call for help that is just too difficult to say no to. And this is one of those. Meet: Sunny. This boy lived the first several years of his life outdoors in Northern MN, during which time he contracted Heartworm & Lymes. Additionally he was shot in the leg multiple times. Sunny recently made his way to Pet Haven foster care where he will be neutered, treated for Heartworm and Lymes, and receive an amputation of his now dysfunctional leg.

Generous donations by our MANY amazing supporters allow us to say "yes" to taking in sweet dogs like Sunny, who despite his horrendous past, is the most gentle, docile dog you will meet.

"Dearest Sunny,

Today is the day you are freed from your pain. After today you will no longer hurt because of a leg that was fractured by the bullet of someone's gun. In the safe hands of an amazing vet team, today you are getting the opportunity to leave your old life in the past & start a new life in a healthy & happy state. Embrace today. Today is YOUR day big guy.

All my love,
Your foster mom Meagan"

Please keep our sweet boy Sunny in your thoughts today as he undergoes his last procedure; his leg amputation! Thank you to the very generous Pet Haven supporter who has offered to pay for his surgery and to everyone who has been following his story!

Mother's Day transport

Nothing seems to stop our loyal transporters O'Sullivans and Barbara Olson! Once again they answered the call today and took 12 dogs and pupppies on to rescues in the metro area. Also DeeDee took leg 4 of the journey to Owatonna with Bill.

CHARMAINECHARMAINE'S BROKEN REAR LEGAlso special cargo was Charmaine, a juvenile shepherd with mange and a badly broken rear leg. She went on to Dr. Vickie at Act V who will help her.

SHALLAHSUNNYShallah and Sunny are two pups found at the garbage dump along with Charmaine by Polly. They went to Second Hand Hounds foster care.

LOG DENSEVEN PUPSThe little litter of 7 pups found in the log den went to Animal Ark into foster care with Linda. We heard that they arrived safely and are becoming accustomed to their new home.

JANEJane, the little tricolored girl, was found 2 weeks ago on a highway in the middle of nowhere by Carol Priest with with Jana and Juggs. Jane went to Pet Haven and now only Jana remains at the shelter.

Frigid transport saves lives

LAURA, THE VAN, THE DOGS AND THE COLD WINTER SKYWe are so happy here at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue to have Dee Dee and Laura come at just the right time. The temperature had plummeted to a 31 below zero wind chill, when 21 dogs/pups and 6 cats/kittens rode out Friday, December 11 at about 10:00am in warm crates lined with soft, warm pads.

DEE DEE AND LOADED VANOnly a few days ago, a litter of pups, a kitten, a chihuahua we call Penelope, Sybil a shep and her puppy Sunny were all found at a cold garbage dumpster on the Red Lake Reservation- Yes, some died, but the survivors traveled as "precious" cargo in the care of Dee Dee and Laura. Our special thanks to Polly and Carol who braved the cold and made multiple trips to rescue them from the dumpster area.

DUMPSTER PUPSPENELOPESWEET SYBILWe are honored to have dedicated people who travel hundreds of miles to work so hard and deliver all these animals to their more comfortable indoors climate. A big thanks to all the big hearted rescues and shelters taking these animals including Pet Projects, Second Hand Dog, All Dog Rescue, Tri-County Humane Society, and Red Lake Rosie's foster homes.

YUM YUM PUPSPETRAMS PEPPERHats off to all who make this rescue a reality and offer hope for the little ones who are hopelessly dumped at the garbage bins!!

Peace and great joy today-
Karen and RLRR

Very Special Transport to end September

September 26 we had a smaller transport due to the number of special needs animals that had very special placements. Transporters included Mike Wilson to Bemidji to meet the O'Sullivans; the O'Sullivans to Motley to meet Dee Dee, and she went on to the metro.

GIRL DOGWe sent Girl Dog, a cream colored lab that was left when her 88-year-old master died. Girl Dog has a rear foot that has been injured and will require medical care. We are happy that Animal Ark took her and is taking great care of her. Ark also took 2 little black labbies.

THREE LABBIESMolly, the white labbie was adopted to a couple in Bemidji.

LIONELAlso on the special transport was Lionel, a little shepherd that was hit by car and had a hairline fracture on his rear leg. The vet in Gonvick put a splint on his leg and Dr. Vickie of Act V took over for this very dear puppy.

CINDY LOUCindy Lou, the runt of a litter has some problems with her little feet. Although she is about 9 weeks old, she has some problems walking. We noticed that she absolutely loves puppy milk replacer. She went to live with Nancy of Pet Projects.

BRIDGETBeautiful Bridget went to Patti at Second Hand Dog in Claremont, Minnesota.

CORKYLast but not least, Corky a little juvenile labbie went to All Dog Rescue.

SUNNY TALKINGOur little Sunny had a foster home, but the tiny kitten never made the transport as she passed away early on Saturday morning.

SUNNY PLAYINGWe were very sad to lose this little darling.

SUNNY RESTINGWe desperately need more foster homes for cats and kittens.

Thank you all who made this very special transport possible.

Sincerely, Karen Good
