Rest in peace, little Sprocket

I have bad news about our little foster kitten, Sprocket. On Wednesday, October 27th, she was brought into the vet office with a very high fever. The doctor discovered that her lungs did not sound right and that bile had been backing up into her bloodstream, indicating that her liver was not functioning properly.

After an FIV/Felk test came back negative, all signs pointed to FIP. FIP is a mutation of the coronavirus and is not very common. Unfortunately, there is no test or cure for FIP and it is always fatal. Because of kitten's immature immune system, they are more at risk than other cats of not being able to fight off the mutated virus.

The vet was over 90% sure that was FIP, so we had to make the difficult decision to let go of poor Sprocket. We did not want her to suffer any more than she had to. We miss Sprocket and she's in our thoughts daily.

Sprocket came to us weighing only one pound with thin hair full of dead fleas and a missing lower lip. While she was with us, her coat became full and shiny, the fleas were long gone, and her missing lip proved to be no problem at all. We are so happy that she got to experience a great last month of her life in our home.

She loved to play with all the other cats - she was fearless! She also loved to snuggle up in the sunlight with our black lab. Sprocket was a sweet, feisty kitten who was full of life and energy. She will be missed very much, but was deeply loved while she was here with us.
