First of Junebug's pups is adopted

Pregnant Junebug went to ARVSS and had eleven pups. Skipper is the first to be adopted.

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:
Hello!! Wow what a crazy few days we've had! My daughter was so excited when she finally got to meet the puppy. They have been best buds ever since.

We are still working on potty training and have had a few accidents, but both my daughter and Skipper have been little troopers. (I kept his name and he seems to be responding to it now) I have another snuggler at night/day with me and it actually works out great for potty training. He will start bouncing around which wakes us up and we know it's time to go out.

We haven't had to crate him much since we have been home but when he has been in there he's not been very happy. I'm going to start leaving the tv on for him so there's some voices he can hear, I think it's a big adjustment going from having all his siblings to by himself in his crate.

His NEW big brother is slowly adjusting but today they were zooming around the yard and wrestling. We have found playing fetch is a new favorite, he took to the concept right away! Big kitty sister still doesn't know what to think and stays up high and out of reach mostly but comes down to have a sniff once in a while.

He will have his first vet appointment on Friday. It's amazing how long it's been since I've had a puppy in my house, I forgot about about how much fun it is for them to eat EVERYTHING or at least try to. We're slowly remembering though. It's been so far so good and I'm glad I found ARVSS
!! I'll keep you updated on our progress.

Thanks again!
C~

SECOND UPDATE:
I wanted to give you an update on my Skipper. We're approaching the 3-week mark and oh how our lives changed since that little fluffy boy came home!

Skipper is learning (ever so slowly) about potty training. I think it's more training us to remember to take him out, than it is him having accidents. We havn't quite figured out how he tells us yet he has to go, but he's very good about going when he is let out. His big brother, Bailey used to run out the door and down the street every chance he got, but since Skipper came, he hasn't taken off once (knock on wood). He'll trot out to the back yard with his little brother in tow. Especially at night because we seem to be a bit afraid of the big dark yard.

Even though they spend a lot of time outdoors during the day, their favorite game is wrestling tag INSIDE! Baily will knock Skipper down then run the other way, with Skip chasing, he gets in his licks then makes a mad dash to the couch, jumps up and the whole thing continues. Needless to say we have utilized our crate for time-outs.

Otherwise things are going very well, he's eating like a little horse and those paws of his are getting very big. He'll be getting his last round of shots next month, so we can start going to the dog park to run (instead of the living room).

Skipper has been adopted ;-)

FROM PET HAVEN DOG BLOG:

Skipper, the oh-so-adorable Sheltie from Red Lake, had his home visit and was already settling into his new digs when his foster mom left him there. He has a 13-year-old Sheltie sister and two human parents who have had several Shelties over the years.

DENISE SAYS:
Be sure to re-read Skipper's story to fully appreciate how wonderful it is for Skipper to have found a new home.

Don't shoot Skipper

This dog was left in a crate on the driveway at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue with a note attached: "Daddy wants to shoot Skipper because his teeth are falling out."

Skipper went to the RLRR clinic, was neutered, got rabies and DHPP shots, and was wormed. He got brushed out and bathed, but Karen was worried. "There are very few places to send poor little Skipper. He is and older dog, 20-25 lbs. He is a little unsure at first, but gains confidence when he realizes you will not hurt him. Gets along well with the other animals at the shelter." Everyone was relieved when Pet Haven agreed to take him in and now we have an update.

FROM PET HAVEN:
Hi Karen ! I thought you would enjoy this update on Skipper ! He is boarding at Auntie Ruth's doggie day care until Monday when he will go to his foster home. We thought he would enjoy staying there while he recovered from his dental (he had 6 teeth pulled).

Auntie Ruth's has a room where they have all the older dogs and the ones that are recovering from surgeries and things. There is a rocking chair in it for snuggling and the dogs can go outside at their leisure.

It has a large glass window to view them through and it is one of my favorite places to be because the view is soooo cute! There are always lots of the white faces of older dogs and dogs of all kinds- there are even raised beds for napping on.. I should take a picture of it for you.

As you can tell- they absolutely LOVE him there :)

I am going to stop by there tomorrow to meet little Skipper. Thanks sooo much for letting Pet Haven have him !

Kindly,
Ann
FROM AUNTIE RUTH'S:
Oh, Ann, you are going to fall in love with this little boy. He is the most precious thing ever. I went to see him one last time before I leave for the weekend and he just melts my heart everytime. He has definitely warmed up over the last day and he was chasing me around outside and just had a BIG smile on his face the whole time. I cuddled him and kissed his face and told him how lucky he is. I can't wait for you to meet him.

He's been out in the room with all the other dogs and doing great. He is still a little growly but not consistently and he hasn't even attempted to snap at anyone. We were thinking maybe he's got some bad eyes or something that is just keeping him a little unsure about what's going on around him, but he is wonderful other than that.

Hope you have a good weekend and you can let anyone know who was worried about him that Skipper is getting all the love in the world!! :)

More thanks & pics from August clinic

On reflection of the recent clinic, I am still amazed at how smooth everything went and how well everyone worked as a team. I wanted to thank you again for all of your hard work. You and the other volunteers literally do the dirty work with a smile on your faces! Without you, we would be lost, hungry, and covered in dog poop!

I was also wondering if you could pass along my thanks to the other volunteers that worked the clinic. We passed around a contact list, but it is not complete by far. I really want to thank all who helped with this clinic! It was a great experience, and I hope we can all work together again.

Thanks again for all of your work and dedication!

Another successful transport on August 15

BOLT & BONNIEBARBARA AND BOLTWe had another transport on August 15th. When Barbara emailed me a week ago and offered a transport, I was almost sure we would not have enough animals or placements to have a transport- but I said yes that we would plan one.

NANCY, CAROLYN AND BARBARA BUSYWell, during the week we had many animals come to us, and many rescues and groups stepping forward to take animals including Tricounty Humane Society, All Dog, Pet Haven, TLC rescue, Pet Projects, and Lindsay of Akin Hills Pet Hospital.

ODESSAAs the kennels filled up and Mike and I getting overwhelmed, we also contacted Headwaters and were able to get a placement of 3 dogs, Wes, Odessa and Maggie. Once again Carolyn and Nancy O'Sullivan responded to the need and also took this leg of the journey.

WESWes is such a hoot, and went to Headwaters. He loves to dance on his hind legs!! He was neutered and has all his shots. He came to RLRR after the owner said that they wanted him removed and that he was "mean". Well, Wes was not mean- he was a very friendly dog with a very bright future.

MAGGIEWe met at 10:00 am in Bemidji and I have included some pictures of the transfer of donated food, crates, and they took the "valuable cargo", doggies and kitties on to their destinations. A total of 13 dogs and puppies, and 12 cats and kittens went on the journey. We had one tiny kitten, only a few ounces that went to foster care at Tricounty.

SKIPPERWe are very happy that Skipper went to Pet Haven

MICKEYMickey, Aussie mix went to All Dog

SEVEN TINY KITTENSA very tiny litter of 7 kittens came to the shelter.

TINIEST KITTENJolene bottle-fed the tiniest who is pictured with Carolyn.

TWO KITTENSTwo of the kittens are going to Akin Hills Pet Hospital and the other 5 to Tricounty to a foster home. The kittens came with eye infection and were taken to the vet. We only had the litter of 4 days, but we still have 16 cats at the rescue and more waiting to come in.

FOUR SHEP PUPSThank you to all the transporters, donators, receiving rescues and agencies who made this transport possible.

Sincerely, Karen

These dogs would like to leave Red Lake this weekend!

I am sending pics of several dogs including Odessa, Skipper and Mickey. We have an opportunity to transport this coming weekend if we get any placements.

ODESSA1) Odessa, female spayed, DHPP and Rabies shots, wormed, advantix.
Nice girl, about 9 mo - l year old. Gets along with all the other dogs.

SKIPPER2) Skipper, sheltie mix, poor dear is older dog, and he was left in a crate on the driveway with 8 cats on August 7th at 5:00 A.M. A note
attached: "Daddy wants to shoot Skipper because his teeth are falling out". Skipper went to the clinic , was neutered, got Rabies and DHPP shots, and was wormed. He got brushed out and bathed as well. There are very few places to send poor little Skipper. He is about 20-25 #. He is a little unsure at first, but gains confidence when he realizes you will not hurt him. Gets along well with the other animals at the shelter.

MICKEY3) Mickey, Aussie mix, made it on his own since last fall . Workers at a construction site say Mickey has been hanging around the construction site for a year, and they would feed him. He is a wonderful dog and got neutered at the clinic and got his rabies and DHPP shots. He gets along well with the animals at the shelter.

Could you or your group take any of these animals to foster care? They are all wonderful dogs.

Peace- Karen
