Mama Tasha, now Charlotte, finds a home

This dog was surrendered on the day her pups were born. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue found the little family without food or shelter. Read more about her story in the original blog post HERE. Once the puppies were weaned, all moved to foster care and John took in Tasha (now Charlotte) and found her a home to love her.

Update on Charlotte & kittens, pt.2

Continued from yesterday...

Over two years ago, I took in a pregnant mom cat, Charlotte, from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue who soon had four kittens. Three of the four kittens were adopted within a few months, but no one chose Charlotte or Amelia. It was the longest I ever had had foster cats and the longer they stay, the harder it is to let them go. However, I could not continue fostering if I adopted them myself and I knew they deserved more attention in their own home.

CHARLOTTEThen I heard from one of my former Feline Rescue adopters (of my kitten Eloise) that she was looking for a cat for her mother. The two of them drove over and fell in love with Charlotte. Apparently, she made herself right at home:

UPDATE 1:
Charlotte and I are doing just fine. I think she likes me. She follows me everywhere and slept with me from the first night. K~ and I are both surprised. Right now she's sitting on the desk next to the computer. Anyway, shes doing just great and she says to say Hi to Amelia and Gilligan and the rest of the gang.

Charlotte's doing fine. Still sticking to me like glue...although I have noticed she's not quite as dependent as the first week or so. Still haven't introduced her to Eloise yet....maybe one of these days....... Poor Amelia. Hopefuly one of these days, she'll get her forever home and have different things to think about other than " Where has my Mom gone to?"

Another couple months went by without a home for Amelia and I decided to give her a chance at the Feline Rescue Shelter where more people would see her. Feline Rescue has agreed to take in two cats from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue at the shelter to help them find homes, so when there was a spot to fill, I took Amelia there. I've never suffered so over a decision for a foster cat. She had been there a couple of weeks when I stopped to visit and learned that she might be getting adopted that day with another cat from the shelter named Gilligan. Well, I've had a cat named Gilligan for ten years, so I took that as a sign and spoke briefly with the adopters. Time passed and I was so anxious for an update that I contacted them and got this great news:
 AMELIAUPDATE:
I'm so glad to hear from you as we had such a short time to meet at the shelter. I hope you are well and enjoying your summer. I have loved having the summer off to bond with the kitties but am starting to gear up to go back to school.

I am happy to report that Amelia seems to be happy in her new home. My husband and I don't have kids or other pets so she and Gilligan are our only 'children'. We love them so much though it has been an interesting transition. Amelia is so much an alpha female, since she crossed the threshold, she has definitely been the boss. As a result, with Gilligan being a shy boy, we set up a screen door between the first and second levels of our house so they could sniff and view each other but have slow physical introduction. I so wish I had a photo of the night when Amelia decided she'd had enough and wanted to meet Gilligan so she climbed our modified screen door and made her way over!

GILLIGAN AND AMELIASince then, they have gotten to be fast friends and even snuggle and have taken to sleeping together, as well as playing, chasing and eating together. I'm a bit surprised but thrilled that they are getting along so well, so quickly. I've attached a few photos of her/them for you. Please know she's in good hands and that I'll be sure to send photos and updates about her.

FINALLY, happy endings for the whole family (and me!)

Update on Charlotte & kittens, pt.1

UPDATE FROM ADOPTERS OF DAREN & SAMANTHA (NOW SHADOW & SOPHIE):
We just LOVE Sophie and Shadow! They are characters. Shadow (grey color) is so much like a toddler. He is into everything, but not for long, he has a short attention span. He is a goofy kitty, and meows with his own language. We think he is talking to us. But he is also a very sweet boy.

DAREN/SHADOW:Sophie (multi color) is certainly a princess and likes to be treated as such - and we or should I say "I" accommodate. She likes nothing better than to sit on my lap or sleep nestled into my head and neck at night. She is not as curious as Shadow and will usually let him get into trouble first, then if the coast is clear she will follow - that's my girl.

SAMANTHA/SOPHIE:We are very happy with our furry family members. Thank you again for rescuing them and letting us adopt them.

UPDATE FROM ADOPTERS OF SERENA/TOOTSIE:
Finally here are a few pictures of Tootsie.

We adore her so much. She is very active and loves attention. She is very inquisitive, and loves to get inside of things. She gets along with our dog Lucky.

Tootsie is great at waking me up and loves being inside whatever she can fit in.

Saving the best for last

I have been fostering cats (usually mom cats and kittens) for a decade and I have lots of friends who also foster. We have discussed from time to time how impossible it is to predict which cats will be adopted first and which will wait.

CHARLOTTE & AMELIACharlotte came to me from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue with a belly full of kittens, ticks in her coat and a BB in her butt. I took care of the ticks right away, she had four lovely kittens in just a few days and the BB was removed when she was spayed.

CHARLOTTEFrom that humble beginning, she came to be a favorite at my house. When friends stop by they can't believe I still have her because she is so great-- quiet, friendly, pretty. She is a medium-sized gray tuxedo cat with round green eyes set in her very round face. She is patient with me when I am too busy, but adores some alone time for petting.

AMELIAAmelia is Charlotte's daughter from that last batch of kittens. She is full-grown and possibly a little bigger than her mom. She must take after her Dad's side of the family because she has the long legs, angular features and almond-shaped eyes of the Oriental breed. Her dilute calico coat is super soft and she is a snuggler without shame.

I'm so anxious for them to find their permanent, perfect home. The longer they stay, the more I love them, but I want to continue to foster so I can't adopt. Their photos don't do them justice; they often blink for the camera, but they are both very beautiful with beautiful souls. I hope you or someone you know may be looking for a cat just like one or both of them!

The good news is that when the right adopters come along, the waiting is all worthwhile. January is the biggest month for adoption of cats. My theory is that people are looking for a loving companion after the stress of the Holidays. Whatever the reason, my fingers are crossed that the time is near for my dear Charlotte and Amelia.

Stray Cat

CHARLOTTECharlotte is a sweet, lovely gray and white tuxedo cat who arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue with a belly full of kittens, ticks in her coat, and a BB in her butt. Well, the ticks were removed right away and she had the kittens just a couple of days after arriving at her foster home. The vets removed the BB when they did her spay surgery, but she has been waiting a year to find her new home. Mom cats often wait much longer than their kittens, which doesn't really seem fair. I named her after my favorite cousin and she is one of my favorite cats ever -- and I have known a lot of cats.

She is super friendly and calm, likes attention very much, but patiently waits for it at her busy foster home. She is ready to be the center of attention after her earlier hard life and rejection.

AMELIAAmelia is Charlotte's kitten, but full grown and over a year old now. She was named for the pilot and adventurer Amelia Earhart because, even though she was the tiniest kitten in her litter, she was always the first to try something new.

She is a gorgeous sleek short-hair dilute tortie with gray and cream and even a little white on her belly. She is leggy with angular features resembling the Oriental breed of cats – she must get that from Dad, she doesn’t look much like her mom Charlotte at all except for the gray. She loves the other cats in her foster home and LOVES to sit in your lap for petting. She is also a special favorite of mine. Everyone who comes to my house thinks they are great, too!

Amelia gets along really well with Charlotte and they would be a super pair or they could be adopted alone or to befriend another cat. See our website (www.redlakerosie.org) for more information about adopting them.

Bewitched bunch ready for the world!

This mom cat from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and two of her kittens are still waiting for homes. The two kittens from the family that are already in a home together are getting rave reviews! Don't wait to meet these great cats!!

CHARLOTTE (MOM CAT)Charlotte is a short-haired blue-grey tuxedo cat. She is mild-mannered and LOVES people. With cats, she likes to be the boss, so she would be happy in a home as an only cat or perhaps with a dog.

AMELIAAmelia was named for her independent, adventurous spirit, but she just LOVES laptime; she also loves another kitty to play with and cuddle with and her sister Serena is her darker twin. Amelia is a dilute tortie (grey/cream) and Serena is a regular tortie with black and orange. They are both long and sleek with pointy faces like Oriental cats.

SERENASerena is a little quieter and shyer than her siblings or her mom, but that seems to be typical of dark torties. She also loves laptime but will startle more easily and relies on Amelia for confidence.

SOPHIE & SHADOWWe wanted to update you on Sophie and Shadow (Samantha/Darin) - they are are doing wonderfully. They have really adjusted to their new home. They are still shy of new sounds and sights, but are settling in very nicely.

SHADOW (fka DAREN)Shadow is a very high energy kitty and would go non-stop if he could - we wonder if his batteries will ever wear out! He runs through the house chasing his toys. Whoever thought a little kitten could sound like a herd of cattle, but we love it. He also loves to pick on his sister - a little bit of a bully, but in the end they still get along great.

SOPHIE (fka SAMANTHA)Sophie is more laid back and likes to observe a bit before participating but she has a mischievous side too. She may not be the instigator but will join in on the fun. Sophie will be the cuddly one of the two. You can tell that she needs to be treated like the Diva she is. She knows her cute looks will go along way!

SHADOW & SOPHIE TUG OF WARWe love the added excitement they both bring to the house. Both kitties have great personalities and we are constantly entertained by them. On a side note - the Christmas tree is still standing, but I will be happy when we can take it down and the temptation is out of the house! Sophie had tree sap stuck to her fur already.

RLRR at Rogers' community event

I joined Dino representing Red Lake Rosie's Rescue this year at the annual Fire Department Open House in Rogers, MN. The weather was beautiful and there was a great turnout. Dino's four dogs from Red Lake and my four foster kittens were a big hit.

Looking for purrfect homes

Well, the ticks were removed right away and she gave birth to the kittens just a couple of days after arriving at my house. The vets removed the BB when they did her spay surgery. She is anxious for her fur to grow back, but even more anxious to find a new home.

CHARLOTTEI named her Charlotte after my favorite cousin. She is a lovely young gray tuxedo with sort of a sweet old-fashioned attitude. I think this was her first and last batch of kittens. She was a wonderful mom, but she did seem a bit dismayed and overwhelmed when they were first born.

CHARLOTTEShe has four beautiful kittens -- three girls and one boy. All are ready for new homes, fully vetted and spayed or neutered. They all have wonderful calm personalities and respond well to respectful children.

AMELIAAmelia is the smallest by a little bit, but she has always been the most adventurous. She is a dilute tortie (gray and tan) and I love the freckled look of her face.

SERENASerena is standard tortie (black and orange). She and Amelia are best buds and they are generally playing or sleeping together. What a darling pair! She is a little shy about new things, so going to a home with a sibling or mom would be great for her.

SERENA & AMELIASAMANTHASamantha is the princess. A dilute calico with medium length fur and a funny clown face. She is as laid back as a rag-doll cat. Happy most of the time to lay around and be decorative.

DARENDaren is the only boy. He is in a growth spurt now. I call him my little bear with his cute face and gray tabby fur. He hides a perfect white bikini on his abdomen that I love. Don't let his serious face fool you, he is a lover and Samantha definitely has a crush on him.
