Lucky Dog Lucy

Lucy was brought here by a Red Lake lady who lives in Staples, Minnesota, on June 27th.  She said Lucy showed up at her house and was limping badly.  She held her rear leg up in a fixed position and hopped on 3 legs.

Lucy was at the shelter only two days and Susie of ARVSS said that she had foster homes available and decided right away to help Lucy when she heard about her.

Lucy traveled with a load of puppies and dogs to ARVSS  on June 29th and got the surgery she needed and now is adopted.

We are so thankful to have ARVSS who has helped many injured animals get medical care and great homes! We also thank the transporters Barbie Olson and Kristin Tachin for the rides.

Lucy and I are writing to let you know how our first week together went.

LUCY LIKES TV

Lucy is being so good in the house! She hasn't chewed on anything or taken anything that she shouldn't. It's like she knows what she can and cannot do! She also uses her training pads when I don't take her out in time. She is eating very well and she loves to play.

NOTICE MY PINK NAILS?

When she is outside, she is also very good. She doesn't bark at other dogs. She will meet them, but remains calm. She is good in the car and she stays sitting with her own seat belt.

NOTE FROM ARVSS ABOUT LUCY'S INJURY, TREATMENT, AND RECOVERY:

A small bone called a calaneal was broke--the vet used wire to put it back together and then had to pin part of her tendon back in place--she recovered better than he expected and was so thrilled to see her using her leg! She had to recover for 6 weeks--however I think she believed she was healed after three!!!  The couple who adopted her were wonderfully patient for her to heal before they could adopt her and are so happy now! Mitz (her new mom) has her with her all the time!

Here is poor Lucy the starving pit bull--she has been so abused and is so nice.

PORTRAIT OF ABUSEHer head is oddly shaped and badly scarred from beatings---poor girl-- she is one of the most abused animals we have seen. She also suffers from a severe case of adult rickets from long term starvation.

STARVING LUCYShe came in last week with her two tiny suviving pups from her litter. She is so fortunate to be going to a foster home for a pit bull rescue!!

FROM LUCY'S FOSTER MOM:

This momma is honestly the sweetest thing emotionally, truly not a reflection of the pain, scars and wounds that plague her physically.

She is such a good momma to the puppies, takes care of them so well. We washed her up last night (it was a loooong bath and she wasn't too fond of it, but I think enjoyed the oatmeal massage).

She sat with my fiance and I throughout the night, just snuggling and getting a ton of love...it is amazing how much love this little girl has to give!

I just got her some really high quality no grain food and we got some really good wet food donated, we hope to get her into the vet next week so we can see about supplements for the rickets.

Thanks Karen, Laura and DeeDee for getting her out of her bad situation and transporting her here so she can heal physically and find her perfect, loving forever home!

Frigid transport saves lives

LAURA, THE VAN, THE DOGS AND THE COLD WINTER SKYWe are so happy here at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue to have Dee Dee and Laura come at just the right time. The temperature had plummeted to a 31 below zero wind chill, when 21 dogs/pups and 6 cats/kittens rode out Friday, December 11 at about 10:00am in warm crates lined with soft, warm pads.

DEE DEE AND LOADED VANOnly a few days ago, a litter of pups, a kitten, a chihuahua we call Penelope, Sybil a shep and her puppy Sunny were all found at a cold garbage dumpster on the Red Lake Reservation- Yes, some died, but the survivors traveled as "precious" cargo in the care of Dee Dee and Laura. Our special thanks to Polly and Carol who braved the cold and made multiple trips to rescue them from the dumpster area.

UPDATE FROM ALL DOG RESCUE BLOG:
Sweet Julie (formerly Rose) came to us from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, who took her in from the woods where she had been living with her litter of puppies. Julie and two of her puppies came to All Dog Rescue, and all three have found wonderful forever homes! Their new families have all sent updates:

JULIE/ROSEThings are going well so far. Julie loves her walks and is getting better about walking on the leash, not trying to chase every rabbit and squirrel that she sees--and we have lots! This past weekend we practiced not having to be in the same room at every moment of the day. :-) She'll go into the back yard by herself now. She also learned to sit! I'm not a very good trainer but she learned very quickly. Yesterday we tried playing with toys but she couldn't quite get the idea until today when she took one of the stuffed toys outside and ran around with it it like a lunatic! It was great fun to watch!

Thank you for making it possible for Julie and her pups to have a new life. She is a wonderful dog.

A happy ending for Sweetie...

SWEETIE/LUCY
It has been a wonderful beginning!! Sweetie is such a good girl and very smart... of course we have taken 30 pictures at least but I think these are the best for now... it is one on her new bed which she loves, with her toys, with my daughter in back yard, and with her again at swim lessons this early morning... we played in the park for an hour this morning. she loves napping through day then at around 12 noon we will have to play again... we just love her so much... we are going to buy a little play pool this afternoon.

REMINGTON/RICKYRemy has definitely established his place in the house. And as you can see from the pictures - Scarlett LOVES him! They play constantly - to the point that they have to be taken outside separately. Otherwise, he is just too busy to remember what he's outside for. :-) She is really quite the mother hen with him. He woke up the first night, but since has slept through the night. I think it helps that Scarlett sleeps by his kennel. He's not too sure of what to think of the cats. He uses his deep bark on them - it's hilarious!

I hope you enjoy the pictures. I think he's already grown since these. We're going to take paw prints once a month just to watch how much he grows.

Pups in furever homes already

Momma dog Rose (now Julie) and her five shep-mix pups were part of the transport on August 2. These two spent a little more than a week in foster care and moved in with their new families on August 11.

I am the foster that took two of Julie's (was Rose at RLRR) puppies.

I wanted to update you that they both went to their forever homes on Tuesday of this week! They both got fabulous homes and their new owners can't wait to spoil them rotten. I've attached pictures of both pups that I had. Their names while I had them were Ricky (the dark tri-colored pup) and Lucy (the cream colored pup). Their new names in their forever homes are Sweetie(Lucy) and Remington (Ricky).

They will be much loved and forever cherished in their new homes.

Lucy, Linus & Charlie Brown (the cats!)

Once upon a time at Red Lake during a clinic last summer, a tiny kitten was found and turned in all by himself.We didn't know what we would do with him until a mother cat was brought in who had been nursing, but her kittens were gone. Would she take care of the new little guy?Of course, she did! We called the big tough-looking momma, Lucy, and the baby, Linus. Lucy had enough milk and enough love for multiple kittens, so Linus was soon as fat and spoiled as can be.Then one day another tiny kitten came to their foster home who needed a Mom. Lucy thought about it for half a day, but soon decided that two sons would be just fine. So, little Charlie Brown joined the family. Linus loved having a brother, but like most little brothers, Charlie couldn't keep up at first.Then another miracle happened for this little family, a wonderful adoptive family decided to adopt them all together and they are all living happily ever after! The kitties are just wonderful! We love them so!
Lucy is her usual sweet self. She does seem to be a tad more playful and kittenish in spurts as the boys are growing up. And she's just so well behaved! Never scratching anything but the scratching posts, waiting patiently to be petted, etc.
She seems to have a particular affinity for Sam, our 8 year old. She seeks him out when he's reading or playing, then just rolls on her back and stretches out so he can rub her tummy. He loves it!
Charlie is now bigger (taller and longer, not bigger around) than Lucy and certainly than Linus. He still has a kittenish feel to his body, though, so it makes me wonder how big he's going to be when he's all done growing. He's such a happy-go-lucky, enthusiastic spaz of a kitty! His nails seem to grow the fastest and he has the biggest affinity for clawing stuff he's not supposed to. We're working on it! Oh - Charlie also has turned out to be the best mouser. He has killed two mice in our house and I'm happy to report that I think he's solved the mouse issue! (He was SOOOO proud of himself!)
Linus still seems to be the most thoughtful. And I think he's really smart. He such a calmly loving guy -- he waits 'til the hubbub dies down, then comes and sits in my lap or lays on my legs if I'm sleeping. He spends quite a bit of time curled up with either Charlie or Lucy and grooming them.Here are some pictures of our crew. By the way, Lucy is indeed getting a little friskier as the boys get a bit older. Fun to watch her play with toys!
Oh -- and Lucy really did that purple boa all by herself (after Charlie found it in the kids' dress up clothes and dragged it up from the basement). Definite photo op!

A Very Merry Christmas for the Red Lake rescued animals

Bless the Red Lake dogs and cats that have a warm place in someone's home this Christmas....and the ones that don't.

Barbara brought Lucy with her after her time at RLRR this summer and fostered her until she was adopted and she got her new name of CC.
Hello from the A-family. Just emailing you some Christmas pictures. We are sad to say that we have lost our old dog, so C-C will have to live alone for a couple months. We plan on getting a new pup this spring so she doesn't have to wait too long. But I must say even though she e alone it doesn't phase her. She had a lot of fun snooping around when we brought all the Christmas boxes up. We see more of our old dogs and their traits in her more and more...like from Iggy she snoops in bags when you bring them in lol.
She also got to experience the cookie weekend we have. We get together and bake cookies, bars and candies for one full weekend and she loved it.

we had lots of fun getting our nose into enerything...we would have to say that her favorite cookie to hunt down are the lemon bars...
