Ruby has a new home and a new brother

Ruby Tuesday was just transported down from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in mid-March (see earlier post), but Act V has already found her a loving new home with a good-looking playmate (in red).

Congratulations, Ruby!

Obedient pups

Updates on two former Red Lake "kids" who came to Animal Ark.

CHOCOLATE PUPS BEFOREAphrodite, now Ruby, is the sister of Hera adopted as a second Red Lake pup for one family. They were from the trio we called the "chocolate pups".

SHEP PUPS BEFORETazer was the last "kid" adopted from the litter that came into my foster after the last clinic!

RUBY & TAZERFROM ANIMAL ARK BLOG:
It is always great to see pet parents taking the time to work on obedience with their dogs-especially with puppies. You'll probably remember the beautiful Aphrodite (now named Ruby) & the very handsome Tazer.

Ruby & Tazer's families have been coming every week for obedience training since they adopted them and they clearly have been doing lots of homework as they both know sit, shake, roll over, stay, down, leave it, etc.

It has been a pleasure working with all the dogs we've adopted out & their new families!!

HERAHere's a recent photo of Hera -- strong family resemblance! She loves laying on shoes!

BIG Transport to clear kennels before August clinic

Greetings! I wanted to share the information on another large 30 animal transport that left RLRR over the weekend. Some animals are in the metro area and others are enroute to ARVSS in Wisconsin.
We want to thank the faithful transporters Tom and Nancy O. who met the RLRR van in Bemidji and took the animals to meet Barbara O. in Motley. Barbara took them on to St. Cloud and into the metro. This great team has often stepped forward to help move the Red Lake animals and we are so thankful for them.

We have had a great influx of animals at the shelter and we are mindful that we have to clear out the kennels as much as we can for the upcoming animal clinic in early August. We are hoping the surrenders and homeless animal numbers decrease but want to be prepared for them.

We sent out 27 dogs/pups and 3 cats/kittens to the following organizations: Tricounty Humane Society; Pet Haven; Pet Projects; Red Lake Rosie's Petfinder Foster homes in Rogers; and ARVSS in Wisconsin, which is a foster-based program where we have sent many animals in the past.

Tricounty Humane Society- St. Cloud
GOLDIERUBYRuby is spayed and has her shots. She is a great gal and we are hopeful that she will be adopted real soon.
PRISCILLAPriscilla, the cat, was surrendered and we sent her to be spayed right away. She is a real nice cat.
PAIR OF KITTENSThese 2 little kittens are lovely and went to Tricounty Humane Society. With the numbers of cats, it is very hard to find foster homes for the cats and kittens. IF YOU THINK YOU COULD FOSTER FOR RLRR, PLEASE FIND MORE INFORMATION ON OUR WEBSITE, www.redlakerosie.org.

ARVSS- Wisconsin
JEWELZMANNYManny came here all skin and bones and has made good weight gains in the past 2 weeks. He is a great little dog, on his way to a real home, and no more starving for him.
BARRYEWING DUCKBarry and Ewing Duck were stray puppies found wandering. They both are great pups and have foster homes now. No more foraging for food and no more homeless status for these boys!
KEYNAKeyna was surrendered with another dog as the owner could not feed the 4 dogs she had. They all have mange. Poor little Keyna had a gash on her face from food competition and has come out of her shell and gained weight already now that she has a good food and water supply.
FELICIASEVEN DWARFS PUPSTHREE MUSKETEERS PUPSPuppies, Puppies. We sent out lots of puppies, and were able to get one of the mamas spayed. We have been told by the owners that they will spay at the August clinic. We hope they do.
EDWINAEdwina has a very sad story. She is the only survivor of her litter who came here on 7/12/09. The litter of pups was starving and mange infested already. Then kids in the neighborhood where they lived hung the puppies by the neck and threw stones at them until they all died, except Edwina. A lady got the puppy away from the kids and we got her. The people do not know the kids involved and would give no information. Despite her shockingly tragic circumstances, Edwina is a "hoot". She is such a great pup and has a wonderful "I am happy" attitude. A real doll. She is going into foster care.

JONNIE CAKESThat is 30 little souls and we wish safe travels to everyone- We thank you for helping get each of these angels out to a better life. Mike and I will sure miss the ones we sent out, as they were a great group of very social animals, and they all got along.

A special thank you for the RLRR supporters, transporters, food donors, and receiving groups. All but 5 went to foster care. We wish we could say ALL went to foster care which is our goal.

Sincerely- Karen Good and RLRR

Update on rescued horse and donkey

I have found out that Freddie the horse is a gelding and is doing well at Mr. Hazeman's farm in rural Bemidji.

Also, that Ruby, the donkey has been adopted by a couple in Fosston, Minnesota. I hope to visit there and see how she is doing one day soon. It is only 40 miles from the shelter.

Sincerely, Karen

Gale is a precious Ruby to her new family

Gale was transported from Red Lake to Pet Haven just before Christmas and just ahead of a big snowstorm. Look for her "before" picture looking skinny and frightened. Now, she has a new family and a new boxer brother named Hot Rod. She is looked well-fed, relaxed and ready for playtime; her new name is Ruby. Read the excerpt from Pet Haven's dog blog below to find out why:Everything is going great with Ruby (we've re-named her Texas Ruby after an old timey cowgirl singer, since Ruby is a cowdog!). She and Hot Rod are getting along just fine and everything is working out. I think she is calming Hot Rod down, which is a good thing. They are both sleeping in the office with me now.
She's adapting very well, has mastered stairs and coming through doors and knows where her food bowl is.

Thanks again for your assistance in getting Ruby to us. She's a real sweetie!

Before the Storm...

Dear Friends:

Hi and I wanted to thank you and update you on the hooved two-some that were rescued out of Red Lake just before the bad weather hit. The rescues took place December 11 and 12.

First of all, we had the little miniature stallion, who the people could no longer care for. He was on a rope, and the people moved and would come and and give him feed/water, but they said he was so lonesome that they had to give him up. I call him Freddie. He was a very nice horse and was in good physical condition.

Also, at a different residence we found Ruby who turned out to be a donkey. She was not in as bad a physical condition as first reported, however, she has swollen leg joints, and very bad feet in need of farrier services. She had longer hair and some hip and backbone protrusion.

Ruby is a real doll, she is friendly and not a bit hard to handle. She was on a rope in a yard on the reservation. She had been grazing grass under the snow and a very nice man driving by with a truckload of hay, stopped and rolled off a bale for Ruby.

We are thankful that a retired teacher from Red Lake who raises horses answered the call and took his horse trailer up to Red Lake and met us first at Freddie's house, then on to Ruby's. Ruby would not get in the trailer with Freddie, so the man returned the next day at 6:30 am and loaded Ruby. This was only 1 day before the very bad weather hit. Ruby had no shelter at all.

Now both Ruby and Freddie are in the barn, warm and eating hay. They seem to get along well according to the caretaker. Both will see the vet and the farrier next week. Check out poor Ruby's overgrown feet -- no wonder her joints are swollen!
Thank you to all the wonderful people who were instrumental in helping us get to the rescues, and all the right people and just in the knick of time. Also to Sandy, Jill, Denise and others who provided advice and financial support to help Ruby get care for her feet, temporary boarding fee, and hopefully transport to RIDE in Rochester or Refuge Farms in Spring Valley, Wisconsin soon.

It amazes me how we are able to, with the help of a great network of animal-loving people, rescue the animals just before the "big storm".

We will keep you updated on Ruby and Freddie.

Sincerely, Karen Good and RLRR
