December outreach by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

Veterinarian, Dr. Vicki of ACT V Rescue and Rehabilitation, and vet students, Mike & Lauren, visited Red Lake Rosie's Rescue December 15-17 and helped Karen with outreach efforts in the community. We got so much done and by day 3 were tired to the bone.

The first afternoon and evening we had a neuter party and got all the male cats neutered in the cathouse.  All the cats were inspected, vaccinated and wormed.  We are bursting at the seams with so many cats that have been surrendered and no place to transfer them to.  We are thankful that the team was able to do so much work with them and overall have a great group of cats.

The next day, we loaded up the 3 vehicles with igloos, straw, food, and other supplies and headed for the areas of Little Rock, Red Lake and Redby to set up some shelters for dogs who have no shelter.
Many more needed shelter but we were able to set up 6 dogs with warm places to sleep.  In the process of making our rounds we picked up 5 more adult cat surrenders and 3 dogs that lived on chains.  Two of
the dogs, Daisy and Louise were frightened and very hungry.  Another female in heat was left at the Gonvick vet to be spayed late in the afternoon.

This shelter was set up on a porch and in the next photo two shelters were under a deck.

The dogs were very happy with their shelters and bags of food!!

The group also visited the dump looking for abandoned animals. Sadly, they were unable to catch the feral cats that live there. They were fed and that was the best we could do for them for now.

All the animals were tucked in their new temporary shelter at RLRR later that afternoon and evening.  It was such a great feeling knowing that we had helped so many community members and their animals. When Dr. Vickie, Mike and Lauren left they took Ivy on to Mn Pit-bull Rescue, little Adam on to Pet Haven and 2 kittens on to Mike and Lauren’s home.

We thank the team for all their great work and kind friendship!
