Polly's Buddy has a new life as a Snowbird

Buddy, the pit-bull was adopted by Dennis and Melva last fall. Buddy grew up in Polly’s household in Red Lake and, when she sadly passed August 31, 2016, Buddy came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue to be rehomed. 

POLLY

Polly and Dan had worked for years for the Red Lake companion animals and was on the Board of Directors. Polly is sadly missed but we think is smiling down at Buddy and his new life.

Buddy was at the shelter for the next 60 days, but, when Melva and Dennis met him, they were smitten with him and adopted him. Buddy had a makeover and was put on a diet and lost excess weight and had dental work done after he was adopted.

What a wonderful ambassador for the breed as he is gentle and gets along with all dogs and also loves cats. While in Polly’s household Buddy lived with lots of other cats and dogs, and now he has new friends, both dogs and cats!

Buddy spends the summers in Rosemount, MN, and the winters in Utah, enjoying the warmth and sunshine wherever he goes!

We hear Buddy is soon to be back in Minnesota again enjoying his life with his new family. Thank you Dennis and Melva for giving Buddy a great home.

Jeanette has been a friend of Red Lake Rosie’s for years and has volunteered for clinics, worked at the shelter, and has done many transports during that time. 

LITTLE MISS JET

 We send our condolences to Jeanette and her family on the recent loss of her sister, Regina.  Red Lake Rosie’s was honored to have the pleasure to take in 4 small breed dogs that were left when their guardian passed.

SPIKE

 The four including Buddy, Spike, Abby and Little Miss Jet arrived on Tuesday, February 26th and left on March 2nd for two great rescues into foster care.  Spike and Buddy went to Act V while Abby and Little Miss Jet went to St. Francis of Assissi.

BUDDY

 We enjoyed their company in the cathouse for the week, and are hopeful for great homes for all.  Thank you Jeanette for trusting us to place these four dear furballs!

Buddy: Free at last

"Buddy lived a miserable existence for at least 5 years in a too-small crate 20-plus hours a day in a back room with the door shut. When he was allowed outside he was put on a 5-foot chain. His owner recently came into financial difficulty and is not able to provide food for him. When I got him he was emaciated and had a severe infestation of fleas.

Despite all Buddy has been through he has a wonderful disposition. He is friendly and happy. He gets along with all other animals small and big. He shows no food aggression despite not being fed well the past couple of months. He loves to explore the outdoors and run through the fields.

Buddy is trainable. He knows how to sit. He likes to ride in the car now. He was nervous at first. He has gotten very playful and likes to fetch now too."

KAREN SAYS:
Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was happy to help by getting Buddy neutered, vaccinated and placed with All Dog Rescue.

With tearful eyes, Jennifer said her goodbyes to Buddy as he left with DeeDee. We are so thankful for Jennifer and all she does to help animals in her area as well as fostering often for Red Lake Rosie's.

She worked on getting Buddy for years, and finally succeeded! We wish him all good things.

Transport to ARVSS

EMILEEARVSS (Animal Rescue & Veterinary Support Services) has once again taken a load of puppies and 2 litters with nursing mamas on Saturday September 3rd into their foster care program. With the crowded conditions at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, it was a great blessing.

TRANSPORT DRIVERSThe transporters once again stepped forward to get these kids on their journey were Nancy and Tom O'Sullivan, Carolyn, Kristen, and Barb who run hundreds of miles on a regular basis helping the animals get to their new homes.

BUDDYBuddy was found as a stray puppy wandering the streets in Ponemah and hungry at the last clinic in September. He is a great dog and has fattened up nicely.

CHUNKAChunka a little husky pup was found on the highway and brought to the shelter.

ELSAElsa is a little pom that had mange and was surrendered at the last clinic.

MCKAYLAMcKayla and Emilee were surrendered as stray at the clinic.

JONESYJonesy was brought by Tony as an unwanted stray.

JOELLA & JONESSAJoella and Jonessa are littermates from a group of 4 pups that went to ARVSS last month. The owner wanted to keep 2 pups and one was found at the Redby dump and the other was surrendered by owner later on. We were happy to be able to save the last 2 girls from this litter. They came in starving and left happy and plump.

ROSALEEROSALEE'S PUPSRosalee, the chocolate lab was starving and mangy when Tony drove her out with her litter of eight tiny one-week-old puppies. Rosalee was a great mom and started to produce massive amounts of milk after she started eating well. One day Geri caught Rosalee trying to take her puppies out in the woods at RLRR shelter, and thankfully we got her to give us the puppy and return it to the kennel. We had to start keeping Rosalee contained after that, and letting her out and locking up her puppies for safekeeping.

RAYA AND PUPSRaya was a darling- She came in at the clinic with a litter of 3 survivors. A few days before the clinic 3 tiny pups were brought in to the shelter that still had the cord and placenta. Unfortunately, they all died before the mama could be found and brought to the shelter to be with them.

Raya suffered malnutrition and mange and this was no doubt her first litter as she was having newborn pups everywhere in the Bartons area. She turned out to be a great mom to the last 3 pups. Jo, who is the Chairperson of the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue Board, brought the 3 pups belonging to Raya to the shelter.

The are all safely at ARVSS foster care now.

Our fourth year at the Pet Expo continued to be a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

BOOTH DISPLAYOur dedicated volunteers shared information about Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, sold handmade items and proudly showed off their beautiful and smart Red Lake dogs. Many people stopped by the booth and told us about their lovable Red Lake dogs and cats that they adopted.

We raised $1,135 in sales and $180 in donations for a total of $1,315. That's over 40% more than last year - thanks to all the talented people who shared their handmade items with us, and to the donors who appreciate what Red Lake Rosie's Rescue does!

September 15 transport

We are happy that we were able to get another transport this morning to the metro. Nancy paid another visit to the shelter on September 15th in the evening. She brought a load of food and supplies and was a great help with the evening chores, laundry and dishes too.

Nancy left this morning loaded with 23 animals including 14 dogs and puppies, and 9 cats and kittens. This was a great help with more animals scheduled to come today.

MARTHAAll the cats and kittens including Snuggle, Carson, Sweet Martha, Mocha and a tiny litter of 5 went to Cause for Paws. A huge THANK YOU to them!

TALA CODA (WOLF FRIEND)STAR FOXTala Koda and Starfox, 2 little shep pups, went to Secondhand Hounds.

BUDDYPEBBLESBuddy, a little boxer mix pup, and Pebbles, a pekinese, went to All Dog Rescue.

Flicka ,a terrier with a litter of 5 went to Tricounty Humane Society foster care. Flicka arrived from the White Earth Reservation about 80 miles from Red Lake. As the word gets around in the Indian communities about Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, we are getting more and more requests for rescue and neuter/spay.

This verifies our success and the need for help for companion animals on the Indian reservations. We are the "only game in town" for these animals. We are hearing from Leech Lake, White Earth and the Indian community in the metropolitan area as well.

We thank all our supporters for helping the Anishinabe dogs and cats!! Also a big thank you to our loyal transporters making it possible to make space for more unwanted and homeless animals.

Hi Karen,

Wanted to let you know the transport went well.

The gals at Tri County were in love with Flicka, she was trying to sit in everyone's lap while they looked at her babies. No agression at all.

Then on to Applebee's where the rescuers were so excited to get their critters. My favorite memory is of Pebbles looking out the back window with a BIG grin on her face as her foster mom pulled away in the car. She was very happy.

On another note, just wanted to let you know that the ladies at Tri County said Goldie got a great home, and that Margaret developed kennel cough so they took her off the website until it clears up, then she will go back up for adoption. She is so unique I think she will go quickly.

Thanks for letting me do my small part for these guys and take care of yourself.

Long-suffering Buddy

I had the opportunity to meet Buddy when I visited Red Lake in February.

Karen had heard about this injured dog for a couple of weeks. She tried to convince the family to get medical attention for him, but ultimately they turned him in to the rescue. Poor Buddy was severely malnourished, as you can see, and had a substantial wound on his back which his owners were unable to explain. When Karen took him to the vet, it was discovered that there were several pieces of glass in the wound.

By the time I saw him, it was a couple of weeks after these photos were taken and he had put on good weight. He was much bigger than I expected from the photo; he is probably a St. Bernard/Boxer mix. He sat very stoically in his outdoor kennel at the rescue. He wasn't running around and barking like the other dogs; he just followed us with his sad kind eyes. What a sweet dog!

I didn't bring Buddy down to the Twin Cities myself, but a transport later the same day did. I will try to get an update on him.
