Ginny is a natural therapy dog

Ginny was adopted by Claudia and her family who have been great volunteers for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue ever since. She's a beautiful dog and I've been asking for an update:

Here are some pictures of us at the health care facility. The organization I volunteer through is Pets on Wheels (MNPetsonWheels.com). I usually go to the health care facility once a week for 1 1/2 hours and visit patients in their rooms and in the common areas, where they are often gathered for an activity.

We generally visit about 30 patients each time, so both Ginny and I need a little nap when we get home.

Ginny is not a trained therapy dog, she's just a gentle sweet girl, who loves being petted and being the center of attention. She also loves the extra treats she gets when we're on our visits!

Everyone is so curious about her breed. I say she's an australian shepherd mix, which seems easy enough. Then they ask what her name is. For some reason they have difficulty with "Ginny", but Ginny was how she came to us and Ginny is how she'll remain.

RLRR Booth at the 2010 Pet Expo – A Tail-wagging Success!

This was our third year to be at the Pet Expo. Our dedicated volunteers shared information about RLRR, sold handmade and donated items and proudly showed off their beautiful and well-behaved Red Lake dogs.

This was a wonderful opportunity for people to learn about Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue. People from the local rescue groups that we work with also stopped by and said how much they appreciate what Karen Good, Founder of RLRR, and the RLRR Support Team do to save animals and to provide humane education to the people in the Red Lake Nation. We also appreciate those who adopt Red Lake animals and the rescue groups that help us!

Besides spreading the word about RLRR, we collected a lot of dog and cat food to distribute at the animal clinic in March. We raised $670 in sales and $256 in donations for a total of $926! Our goal next year is to raise over $1,000.

Our Red Lake ambassador dogs melted hearts with their joyful spirits. You can read all about their amazing journeys. Enter Elly or Dylan (true success stories) or Ginny in the upper left hand corner of the blog to open their stories.

Ginny

Ginny and Mishkwa were surrendered as a homeless dogs at the RAVS Clinic in August 2007 (Humane Society of U.S., Rural Area Vets spay/neuter clinic at Red Lake).
At the point we got them, there were so many dogs that were surrendered, we were not sure what we could do with them. The owner said if we did not take them they would have to be shot.
Thankfully, a wonderful vet student took Ginny and Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was able to take Mishkwa and both animals found wonderful homes.
Ginny now lives in St. Paul with Claudia. She was an ambassador dog for Lake Rosie at the Pet Expo 2008. We are so thankful to Claudia for taking care of her and giving her such a good home!
Claudia says that "Ginny has added so much to our lives. Thank you!"
