How Stella got her Groove back

A little husky shep came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in late summer with mange and the condition of rickets which is from prenatal and postnatal malnutrition. We named this sweet girl Stella.

Stella was a wonderful puppy that ran around the shelter in spite of her bowed legs, which caused her to trip and fall occasionally. This did not stop this spirited little girl from enjoying life.

Kathryn fell in love with this little girl when she was working at the shelter and put in a good word for her at All Dog Rescue. Soon she was accepted in their program and today is a beautiful young husky.

Her legs are straight now and she will be adopted- We hope for an update on her soon.

Thank you to All Dog for taking our needy pups and dogs into your care with great results. Just ask Stella!

UPDATE FROM FOSTER MOM:
Hi, Karen;

Stella was adopted right before Christmas - I'm attaching a picture of her sleeping on her toys while she was here with us, as well as a picture of her with her new mom and dad on the day they adopted her!

One Red Lake dog can lead to another...

Stella, a little PomChi, was abandoned at the dump on a very cold night in February. She has now found her forever home with a family who has another Red Lake dog, Marcie, a black lab mix.

STELLA & SOPHIAStella has two other new rescue sisters, too. Sophia, looks just like Stella, and Mollie, is a beagle mix.

STELLA & MARCIEHer new Mom says, "She is settled right in and the absolute perfect addition to the family! All of her sisters love her...and she is now Marcie's favorite. They must know they share that Red Lake bond."

Happy Valentine's Day for Matilda & Stella

Although we have a very mild winter overall, the first week of February had some very cold windchills. On February 6th, Polly got a late night call that there were two kittens at the Red Lake garbage dump. She and Dan went out right away to look for them, but found no kittens. Instead, hunched along the side of the cold steel dumpster, was a hairy little Shih Tzu female dog now called Matilda. It was nearly 35 below with the wind chill!

MATILDAPolly took the little hairy 5# bundle to her home, and saw that she was very starved and dehydrated and frightened. Polly was happy to have found her because she would never have survived the cold that night.

STELLAThe next day another call reported a small breed dog at the Circle Pines garbage dump so Kristy, a resident of the area, searched for her and found the small dog, who had a presumed dog bite on her side. We named her Stella and took her to the vet to have her examined and have her wound cleaned.

Both Matilda and Stella were transported out to foster care with Dee Dee on February 11th.

The attached picture shows Matilda with a big smile on her face in her warm and comfy surroundings with more love and care than she has ever known.

Thank you to the people who made the rescue of Stella and Matilda possible, Polly, Kristy, and foster mom Dee Dee as well as transporters O'Sullivans and Barbie Olson.

Linda's first visit to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue had a very pleasant visit from Linda Hultquist of Minneapolis. She arrived on November 1 and stayed until November 4 when she took out a transport of 5 dogs/pups and 3 cats/kittens with hopes for a new life.

LINDA & DOVERLinda took care of the cats, cleaned in cathouse, did dishes, and lots of laundry helping us get all caught up. Also worked on more tarping projects and weatherizing as well as a trip to the vet.

OLIVIA & OSIRISOSIRISWhen Linda left she took Osiris and Olivia, 2 lab/shep mixes that came in to the clinic as surrenders. They were very thin, dehydrated, and frightened. Since then have gained weight as well as confidence. They were both spayed and vaccinated at the clinic. Osiris went to All Dog and Olivia went to Tricounty.

BENNIEBENNIEBenny a little spitfire beagle juvenile came in to the shelter and went to All Dog. He is darling and has so much energy. He was surrendered by a resident of the Circle Pines Projects. Benny strayed in and stayed a while but kept getting beat up by the other dogs so he came to the shelter.

BENNIE MAKING FRIENDSYou may see how nice Osiris and Oliva look on the picture "Bennie making friends". They were transformed from their arrival state.

TANYASTELLALittle Tanya got her first bath last night, and left today for Tricounty with another little shep pup Stella.

LITTLE KITTENSLADY GAGAMike and Lauren took 2 little kittens and Lady GaGa, a siamese juvenile into foster care.

LINDA & TRANSPORTThank you to Linda who is a very hardworking woman who I could barely keep up with and all the receiving groups and foster homes for taking the animals.

Sincerely, Karen and RLRR

Update on Babes in the Woods

I got this from Lisa and TLC Canine Rescue. It's an update on Yukon -- the only survivor of the "Babes in the Woods." His sister died after a long battle.

Karen

BABES IN THE WOODSYukon was just adopted out 2 weeks ago and he was the one we got with his sister Stella at 4 weeks old.

YUKONHere is Yukon a day after we got him

STELLAThis was Stella, the one we lost. We spent $2000 at the University of MN Vet Hospital and found out she had no white blood cells. She died in my arms.

YUKON NOWHere is Yukon now with his new siblings. This made me cry.

Prayers needed for Babes in the Woods

The puppies found as Babes in the Woods are in the care of TLC Canine Rescue now and they are sick.

SICK STELLAStella and her brother were found in the woods up north at 3 weeks old. Within a week they were transported to the Cities and placed in a foster home. That same night we got a call that Stella wouldn't eat and all she would do is sleep. She also kept throwing up.

We took her to the vet and they did blood work on her and began to treat her for Parvo. She was dehydrated and weak, so they tried and tried to get an IV into her vein to give her fluids, but they couldn't do it. Finally they decided to give her sub-cutaneous fluids (just under her skin). They stuck her all over and left bumps of fluids for the body to absorb. We were told she would have to stay in the hospital for at least a week or maybe longer depending on how fast she got better.

BOTH BABESA fecal test indicated that she didn't have parvo, but did have Giardia and another type of a parasite. She will continue to need fluids and medication under medical supervision until she is able to keep food down again and her diarhea is resolved.

Little brother will also need treatment because they have been together and he is showing early signs of the same symptoms. We hope he won't have to be hospitalized like Stella.

This treatment will be costly, but we won't let the little ones die. We need to do what we can to save them for the better life that awaits them. The little boy is back with us because he was so lonely at the foster home without his sister that he wouldn't stop crying. Now he is just sleeping and will start the same medications as Stella.

I will keep everyone informed on how they are doing.

Thank you and Dog Bless
Lisa
