Perils of Penelope

On one cold northern Minnesota winter night, a basset hound was found along the side of the road.  She was emaciated and had several wounds on her face.  She was very dirty; it was clear she had been walking a while.  A kind person stopped to pick her up and she eventually landed in the caring arms of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.
Penelope in her new home!
Several days later, this sweet girl, called Mindy, made her way down to the Twin Cities for foster care via Pet Haven.  After several interested parties emailed PH about fostering her, she was placed into the care of an awesome home who had another basset, a couple of cats, and lots of activity with busy kids.

Today this Cinderella story was completed, when Mindy - now Penelope - was officially adopted by her foster mom, Jeannine.  Jeannine did an amazing job of nursing this little lady back to health and today Penelope is a BEAUTIFUL basset girl who is loving life as an indoor dog who gets lots and lots of attention.

Thank you to everyone who made this adoption possible.  See attached for photos of Penelope at her arrival at RLRR and today!

KAREN ADDS:
Polly had gotten the call late one night and the next day Mindy was still laying on the same spot, she had obviously given up. Polly loaded her in her car and brought her to the shelter.

Red Lake dogs in California

LOVE this photo! Watson is the gorgeous black shepherd mix with one brown eye and one blue. He came from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was adopted by his foster family through Act V.
Watson on right and California buddies
Watson's littermate sister, Mindy, was adopted by friends of the foster family in California and then the foster family and Watson moved back to California, too, so the siblings are often together.

Mindy -- How cute is she??

Below are Marceen and Marley - now known as Mork and Mindy that went to Animal Ark. These babies came from a young man who had 2 female pitbulls with 3 surviving pups. He had no food for any of his animals. He gave me 2 of them I named Marceen and Marley and later called me the other one was sick and by time I got there it had died. Thankfully I was able to get both females adult pitbulls spayed and have been providing food and advice about his animals. His two females are looking much better now. What a happy ending for this pup!

FOSTER MOM LINDA:
I just got an update on one of the M&M kids (I named them Mork and Mindy).

NEW FAMILY: Hi Linda! I just wanted to update you on how thrilled we are to have Mindy be a part of our family! She is doing fabulous and growing so big!

We have taken her to the Twin Cities Obedience Training Club and she finished her puppy classes. We start Level 1 Obedience Training this week.

She is so friendly to all humans and loves running and playing with other dogs at the dog park near our house in Burnsville.

She is updated on all her vet visits and could not be doing better. I have attached a few photos.

Thank you so much for being Mindy's foster mom and for allowing her to join our family. Again, we could not love her more or be happier.

Sincerely, D~ & A~

Correction for Watson

NOTE FROM ACT V FOSTER FAMILY:
I noticed that you featured Mindy and Watson on the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue blog.

WATSON & MOMWatson didn't exactly get adopted by a family in California.

WATSON IN IOWA
He actually got adopted by his foster family (us) in Minnesota.

WATSON IN COLORADOWe moved to California, and of course, took him with us.

We fostered a lot of dogs from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue for Act V while we lived in Minnesota. You can see them here:

The worst thing about moving back to California is not fostering for ACT V anymore.

Our sincerest thanks for your good work with the dogs. Best Wishes in California!

Mindy & Watson

Remember Mindy, one of nine orphaned pups saved by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue, fostered by Act V and adopted to a family in California following a photo shoot in full ballerina attire?? Well, one of her brothers was also adopted to a family in California and they are both having great fun together. What lucky pups!!

MINDY & WATSONWow, what a great pic and the video clip is great! It is so heartwarming to see them growing up and healthy. We did not have much hope when they arrived after not eating for two days in the dead of winter. They were so young. I am thankful that these pups went to Act V and it is remarkable that two ended up in California.

Too, too cute puppy in a tutu!

LINK TO COMPLETE POST BY FOSTER FAMILY/PHOTOGRAPHER:
Unbelievable ballerina puppy prodigy discovered in the Twin Cities!

Or maybe it’s just people being silly.

It’s hard to tell.

Our very good friends from California flew out to adopt Mindy, one of our foster puppies. Darlene (her new mom) made a tutu for her just for this photoshoot. We assumed we’d put it on her and get maybe two photos before she tore it off. Much to our surprise, she was an absolute rock star for the shoot.

We must have spent at least half an hour taking photos of her in a tutu and Darlene and her daughter in various balletic poses. It was amazing! So proud of Mindy, and pretty happy with the photos I got, too. Check them out!

FROM KAREN:
Nine orphan pups came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in the cold early days of February. Their mom had been hit by a car and killed on Friday and the nine little hungry and cold pups were brought to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue on Sunday barely alive.

We syringe fed them puppy milk in the cathouse and hoped they would survive -- and they did. We struggled with them for a week and thankfully sent them out the following weekend to rescues in the metro.

Act V took six puppies and we are so delighted today to see that one of these little ones now has moved to California to live the good life -- a ballerina no less!

Thank you to the foster family for caring for three of the pups, sharing these beautiful photos and finding this wonderful home. This made our day!

Update on Mindy in foster care

I am Mindy's new foster mom and want to let you know she is doing very well.
I can't believe how sweet she is considering the rough start she had.

The first day she was here, she was nervous so I showed her the dog bed in the dining room, left her alone, and I sat down on the living room couch.
She curled up on the bed and about 20 minutes later, I noticed she was on a chair in the living room. I got up and went to the kitchen and came back to find her on the end of the couch.

It seemed like she was unsure of how close she could get to me and wanted to take baby steps. Once she realized she was welcome, she really started to open up. She's only been here two days, but I can already see that she is an amazing dog.

You obviously did a great job caring for her and must love her as much as I do! I'm going to have a hard time seeing her go to a new home, but I will make sure that it is the best home she can have.

Thanks,
P.
