UPDATE FROM ADOPTERS:
We can't thank you enough for taking care of Sammy. He's been a great addition to our family. He can be a little maddening at times, but so are the kids so I guess that makes it even. Here are some pics from the past couple of months.

Yana, the flower girl

Here is Yana on the Runway at the Pet Haven event on November 13. Yana came from Ponemah as a surrender dog, and had mange, malnutrition, and later developed parvo.

Although she had a rough start, she is a shining star and one of the October clinic "favorites". We are so happy to see her looking so well, and so beautiful. Thank you to everyone who made it possible for Yana to have this new life.

UPDATE FROM PET HAVEN:
Despite the snow storm the Pet Haven benefit went on.

Yana was dressed in the wedding outfit- as if she were the flower girl- dog. She did great!

Included in the photos is the 'real Yana' after playing in the dirt.

She is doing very well and is gaining weight and running and playing harder each day.

THANKSGIVING UPDATE:
I'm happy- and sad- to share that Yana now has a forever family. The happy family photo is attached.

She also has a new name- Trixie. A first puppy for the kids, the family lost their dog in September. They even changed their holiday travel plans to stay home so that they could all bond this week with the kids home.

C~ and I had our tears when we knew we were saying goodbye this morning, but Yana made herself right at home with them, which made it all worth it!

They said that they will eventually want another dog maybe in the spring and to keep them in mind if we have one that we feel would be a good match for them.

RLRR Holiday Fundraiser with Matching Funds

Everyone on our mailing list should be receiving Holiday greetings from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue which includes news about a special fundraiser in December. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue has received commitments for matching funds totaling $6000 -- Friends of Flicka ($1000) and the Lawson Foundation ($5000).

For every dollar donated by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue supporters, that amount will be matched by the fund. So if you can give $20 or $50, RLRR will receive $40 or $100. If we can match the entire fund, that's $12,000!

The long cold winter is just beginning and we know dogs and cats will be coming into the rescue in desperate need of shelter, food and medical care. You can make that possible.

This fundraiser will continue through December 31, 2010. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization so all donations are tax deductible.

Lake Traverse Reservation dog ban effective Jan. 1

Some 200 dogs and puppies will be losing their home this Christmas. The Lake Traverse Reservation council has put a ban on dogs in reservation housing. All dogs must be out by January 1, 2011.

All MN rescues are being called on to help. If you can open your home to foster a dog that is losing its home this Christmas, please, contact me asap. Also please pass this info along to anyone you think might be able to help.

Remember LeRoy with the huge tumor on his back leg? Well, he found a great home this summer with a single guy who adores him. As you can see from the photo he's as happy as any dog can be!

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:
Leroy is doing great.

I was keeping him in the kitchen the first 2 weeks. He was so good, I gave him run of the house after that. He loves playing with his little squeak toys and lying in the recliner watching outside.

He also loves his walks in the morning and evening no matter what the weather is doing. He has learned to sit, shake, dance, lie down, and stay.

I give him a lot of attention and it really seems to be boosting his confidence. Here is a photo from when we had some nice weather.

He smiles so much, I think his face must start hurting ;-)

Ginny is a natural therapy dog

Ginny was adopted by Claudia and her family who have been great volunteers for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue ever since. She's a beautiful dog and I've been asking for an update:

Here are some pictures of us at the health care facility. The organization I volunteer through is Pets on Wheels (MNPetsonWheels.com). I usually go to the health care facility once a week for 1 1/2 hours and visit patients in their rooms and in the common areas, where they are often gathered for an activity.

We generally visit about 30 patients each time, so both Ginny and I need a little nap when we get home.

Ginny is not a trained therapy dog, she's just a gentle sweet girl, who loves being petted and being the center of attention. She also loves the extra treats she gets when we're on our visits!

Everyone is so curious about her breed. I say she's an australian shepherd mix, which seems easy enough. Then they ask what her name is. For some reason they have difficulty with "Ginny", but Ginny was how she came to us and Ginny is how she'll remain.
