Holiday fundraiser with Matching Fund for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue!

The life-saving work of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue depends entirely on donations, grants and the efforts of many volunteers. Funds of $5000 from the Lawson Foundation and $2500 from Friends of Flicka are available to match each dollar donated this Holiday season.

Since nearly all of the animals we rescue move on to foster care and adoption with another rescue, we don't receive income from adoption fees. We really do rely entirely on your donations. RLRR is a volunteer-run organization with no salaried staff. Please help as you are able.

Drum Roll, please!!!

A few Red Lake Rosie's Rescue alums wanted to share our joy and excitement in making the following announcement:

Donations from the Holiday Fundraiser for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue have been tallied and our faithful supporters donated a whopping $15,995!!

That total more than doubles the matching funds offered to us by Friends of Flicka ($2500) and the Lawson Foundation ($5000) for a grand total of nearly $23,500.

This is the major fundraiser of the year for Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and we want to thank everyone who donated. Thank you to the Lawson Foundation and Friends of Flicka for their Matching Funds again this year and thank you to every individual donor -- lots of small donations add up to a big number.

Karen Good and the board of directors for RLRR thank you and the homeless animals of Red Lake thank you for their opportunity for a new life.

Update on Winter Fundraiser with Matching Funds

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue is so grateful!!! In the last month, we have received just over $20,000 in gifts large and small from our loyal supporters. The amount is more than enough to earn the Matching Funds of $10,000 offered by Friends of Flicka and the Lawson Family Foundation.

The money will allow us to pay our vet bills and costs to maintain the shelter and continue our mission of rescue and education through the winter.

One of the special projects we hope to do is to purchase plexiglass for weatherizing some or all of the dog kennels for next winter. That way they would be warmer, the dogs would be able to see out, and we would not have to do the tarping each fall- we would simply install the plexiglass.

We have ten 2/pod kennels so that would be a project. Each 2/pod would need 6 large sheets of plexiglass.

Eventually we will need re-roof the cathouse as we have some leaks.

We would also like to create a little outdoor cattery with lots of windows and places for cats to enjoy the fresh air -- maybe one about the size of one of our dog kennels with lots of shelving and play area.

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue doesn't have money coming in from adoptions, because almost all of the animals we rescue go to other organizations for care and placement. We foster and adopt out just a few animals each year. This system works very well, but it means we need more help from our supporters throughout the year.

Holiday Fundraiser: A Success!!

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue received $14,596 in donations from our supporters in response to our holiday fundraiser in December. Thank you all!!

With the addition of the matching funds from Friends of Flicka ($1000) and the Lawson Family Foundation ($5000), we have a grand total of $20,596 to buy supplies and pay medical bills for the animals for the remainder of the winter.

We want to specially acknowledge Twyla Hobbs who designed the flyer and all the people worked on the mailing lists and preparing flyers for the mail.

Holiday fundraiser!

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue is having a special fundraiser in December. We have commitments for matching funds totaling $6000 -- Friends of Flicka ($1000) and the Lawson Foundation ($5000). For every dollar donated by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue supporters, that amount will be matched by the fund. If we can match the entire fund, that's $12,000!

NOTE FROM KAREN:
Well, winter is full blown at the RLRR shelter. Here are some pictures when the frost is on the trees and it looks like a storybook wonderland. We have 20 inches of snow which has fallen so far and another 8 inches may be on the way.

We are so happy to have the straw shed, full of nice dry straw to keep the dogs warm. It is a challenge to keep smaller puppies warm- so 2 are caged in the cathouse. The 24 cats, of course, are warm in the cathouse as well.

We have plenty of food for a while, and the snow plow attachment on the Bobcat which makes a world of difference. No more getting stuck at the shelter.

So - all in all- winter is here but we are prepared and well stocked with all that we need to make it through. We are hopeful that we will have a successful Holiday fundraiser to get funds for vetting, medication, and paying our electricity/heating bill.

As of December 1, we have transferred out 744 dog/cats and 1 rabbit and neuter/spayed nearly 700 animals in 2010 with one month to go. This will be a record year for neuter/spays.

Holiday greetings from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue! Please don't forget our special fundraiser in December. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue has received commitments for matching funds totaling $6000 -- Friends of Flicka ($1000) and the Lawson Foundation ($5000))--We have received $1,850 so far and are hoping for another $4,150 to get all the matching funds available. For every dollar donated by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue supporters, that amount will be matched by the fund. If we can match the entire fund, that's $12,000!.

The long cold winter is just beginning and we know dogs and cats will be coming into the rescue in desperate need of shelter, food and medical care. You can make that possible.

It is important to understand that even though several hundred cats and dogs will be rescued by RLRR in a year, the vast majority are cared for until they move on to other rescues. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue isn't able to offset our costs with adoption fees. Our only source of income is from the adoption fees for the small number of dogs and cats fostered by the metro support team, grants which are typically for spay/neuter costs and the generous donations we receive. Thank you!
