A Cow named Sabrina

SABRINA AFTER

One day we had a report of a small dog, maybe a puppy named “Cow” was being bitten up by larger dogs at the man’s house.  He asked Red Lake Rosie’s to take the little black and white female dog.  I think he named her Cow because she reminded him of the colors and patterns on Holstein cows he had seen.

COW AT RED LAKE ROSIE'S RESCUE
So, I went in search of Cow and after 2 days was able to gain custody of her.  At first very shy, with some bite wounds on her neck and throat.
NECK WOUND
It did not take long for her to get very friendly and her personality to come out. In spite of her past history with larger dogs, she got along well with dogs of all sizes and did not seem to be afraid.  She loved to eat.  I renamed her Sabrina, and soon Sabrina was off to Act V to find her forever home.

SHY ON ARRIVAL
ACT V REPORTS:

Look who arrived today...! SABRINA...! She is pretty scared but is being brave and peeking around the corner. She got into a scuffle with the big dogs on the Rez (over food) and had a bite wound under her chin but, now she is on the mend.

Sabrina is obviously happy in her foster home and loves her foster sibling dog. Seems like this pup has been in a coma since her arrival...!!! Play-play-play...Sleep-sleep-sleep. :-)

She is being totally loved up by the kids in the family.

CHECK OUT SABRINA'S SMILE :-)
Sabrina is ready for Spring...! Foster mom Essie has her looking her best. Happy Friday Sabrina, whaddya think of your new duds...?
NOT SO SURE ABOUT THIS!

Update from Coco's Heart

Just wanted to send you an update from the pooches this weekend.

PAPOOSE
Papoose is doing great! He is a bundle of energy!

SABRINA
Sabrina went to the vet today and had an ultrasound- the vet said she is not pregnant. She is a doll.

DENVER (CODY)
Denver aka Cody is adorable and catching on very quickly with home-life. He is going potty outside already- both Paddy and Denver caught on to potty training very quickly. He is a social pup that loves to be held. He is enjoying playtime with the "big boys" (my dogs). He goes to the vet tomorrow.

I have included a picture I took of Paddy and Denver last night. Denver's jacket is a little snug. They were very good and let me pester them to get this picture. They are so wonderful. I will cry when Paddy is adopted. He has a meet'n'greet with a family tomorrow night.

Mike & Lauren's first visit of the new year

Mike and Lauren visited the shelter arriving on January 2 and riding out January 5 with eight dogs and puppies and four cats to the metro.

MIKE WATERING ANIMALSThey were very helpful during their stay helping after the snowstorms, clearing roofs, and caring for cats and dogs.

CHICOThey were able to make a rescue of one puppy left at the Redby dump and in a holding pen in Red Lake and two young cats at the Pound. They did some shopping for supplies and got the vehicles filled with gas. They also made a vet run as we had three neuter/spays and another dog that needed vaccinations.

We had a great time during their stay!

DONNIEBOSSThe cats Donnie and Boss went to Feline Rescue.

RIORio and Sabrina went to All Dog Rescue.

SABRINA

GABRIEL & GALENMARS took Galen and Gabriel as well as two pups from a litter of four.

Twin City Pet Rescue took the other two pups of the litter of four.

Thank you all.

LAUREN AND TWO OF FOUR PUPSNOTE FROM LAUREN:
Mike and I went up to help Karen out at the shelter for a few days. It was outrageously cold - for chores one morning, it was -28 degrees! But we bundled up and were just fine once we started working.

DIAMOND
BOOTSIEThere are tons of great cats up at the shelter. I attached a few pics of some. We took home Chico and Rosie to foster through Pet Haven. These little ones had been left in an abandoned home after a family moved.

GINAWe also picked up a little dog named Gina, who has mange all over her face. She looked so pitiful and must have been so cold outside! She is very friendly and sweet, though.

While up at the shelter, we noticed a few supplies that Karen still needs: Rubber pales/buckets with handles, dry kitten and cat food, canned cat and dog food, and smaller scratching posts for cats.

We loaded up my Honda Accord and packed in eight pups and four cats. Rio sat on my lap the whole way back and was a terrific rider. We're so glad these little ones get to go down to the Twin Cities and get warm, loving places to stay.

S'kittens

HIGHLIGHTS FROM S'KITTEN BLOG POSTS BY FOSTER MOM:

Simone likes a comfy private place to hang out when she's had enough of the cat-race.Here's Scarlett, resting after her first public appearance. She was the one I was most concerned about having a good time, but she did fine and even happily let a woman in the store hold her.I love the spots on her belly!

Just in! Sassy's Thanksgiving photo.

Sabrina is one smart s'kitten -- taking a break from working the Sunday crossword...

Hey, Sassy tried to send a fax the other day. Why not play FarmVille with Simone?

Sterling has found a home, but his four sisters are still looking. Fill out the adoption application on our website www.redlakerosie.org if you are interested in these or any of our kittens.

Meet & Greet RLRR cats & dogs Sat. Nov. 20

Meet and Greet Red Lake Rosie's Rescue foster cats and dogs! S'kittens plan to be there.

When: Sat, November 20, 12pm – 2pm
Where: Chuck & Don's Pet Food Outlet in Wayzata

NOTES FROM FOSTER MOM OF S'KITTENS:
Sabrina and Scarlett: s'kitten sisters
These two kittens truly are bffs and will be adopted out together. I haven't been able to get a decent, recent photo of them together, however. Here's Sabrina:

SABRINAShe's a snuggler who loves to be cuddled. In this picture, she looks a bit mischievous and ready to play. She and Simone are the ones who follow me around the most.

SCARLETScarlett is kitty-crushing on James, my big orange boy-cat. He's tolerant and, frankly, happy to have a feline friend. My other cats don't really care for him for reasons I don't fully understand. Maybe because every human who meets him falls in love. They're jealous!

Sassy & Simone enjoy FarmVille

SASSY & SIMONEHey, Sassy tried to send a fax the other day. Why not play FarmVille?

Simone bounces back

Simone is the smallest of the s'kittens. When she came to me, she was under a pound. She gained weight slowly and has been consistently a pound or more lighter than the others. There's a big difference between two pounds and four pounds in the world of kittens.

SIMONELast week, we almost lost this little one. She was not eating and doing poorly. The vet thought she might have FIP or kitty parvo. There didn't seem to be much hope, but we gave her some fluids. One miracle and one week later she is thriving! Now up to 2.43 pounds, she may never catch up to the others in size, but she is healthy and active. (For comparison, Sterling is over four pounds and the other three girls are 3-1/2 to 4 pounds.)

Like Sterling, Simone has the lovely swirly markings of the classic tabby.

Oh, and I forgot to tell you that Simone used to be Simon. It's hard to tell sometimes on the itsy-bitsy cats. Oddly, I always thought 'he' had a girl personality. Yes, there's a difference.

S'kittens

BEFOREThese snotty-nosed kittens were lucky to get out of the kennel in the cathouse at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and move on to their foster home in the metro where they have quite a large room all to themselves. They will be spayed/neutered in mid-October, but you can meet them now! I call them S'kittens because they all have names starting with "s".

SASSYSassy - the biggest kitten and the boldest. First to try to escape from their fantastic s'kitten quarters; Sassy and Sterling like to roll around together and make a lot of harmless noise. Sassy likes to climb, legs especially. Sassy has beautiful tabby markings without a touch of tan.

STERLINGSterling also hopes to explore the wider world beyond s'kittenland. He has met two German shepherds while being held by his foster mom. Dogs are used to cats . When they sniffed and licked the s'kitten, Sterling purred. Sterling has the mackeral tabby markings. Sterling is vocal and he also is tidy. He scratches around the food dish when he is done as if to bury the food for later. He also runs over to cover other s'kitten poop in the box if one of them forgets!

SABRINASCARLETSabrina and Scarlett are BFFs. Usually if you see one, you will see the other. They are smaller than Sassy and Sterling and have touches of tan in their grey coats. Scarlett has more tan in her face and she is quite tolerant: some of her whiskers have been chewed off by her sibs. These girls are very sweet and at this point in their young lives seem to be docile s'kittens.

SIMONAnd then there's Simon. He's by far the smallest s'kitten. Now gaining weight each day, he is 1.44 pounds. Sassy is a full pound heavier. His markings are very like Sterling's. He is happiest when he is getting human contact and particularly likes to climb from your arms to your shoulder. His purr is much larger than he is! He keeps up with the bigger s'kittens when it is playtime, though.
