Cleo & Minnie still looking for homes

Cleo came to Red Lake Rosie's rescue with her four kittens. (See earlier post with the whole gang HERE.) One kitten was half the size of the siblings, so the group was taken in by ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation for special vet care. Little Smidgen, we discovered had a serious heart defect and she died after a couple of weeks in foster care. Two of the other siblings were quickly adopted, but Cleo and daughter Minnie are still waiting.

Cleo was a young mother so she is just a year old now. A beautiful slim tabby, she is both full of energy and loves lap time. She is a favorite everywhere she goes. She has had coughing bouts diagnosed as asthma, but it is well-controlled with a couple of pills hidden in a treat every day and it may just be seasonal. She gets along fine with the other cats in the foster home, but would do fine as an only cat with lots of people attention :-)  Queen Cleopatra's adoption info HERE.

Minnie is a darling girl in a tuxedo. She is long and sleek like her mother, but definitely needs another kitten or young cat in the house as a playmate and nap buddy. She could also stay with her mom and be placed as a pair. Minnie's adoption info HERE.

The two siblings that were already adopted are doing great in their new homes; one family with young children and the other with a small dog. So I can safely recommend these cats for a home with either.

Contact ACT V to learn more about meeting these two!

Cleo and her cute kittens

A car arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue from Ponemah with a mom cat and litter of four kittens in a crate sitting on an old rain-soaked pillow. The smallest kitten weighed only 11 oz. while the other three all weighed 1 lb 5 oz. Karen didn't know just how old the kittens were, but they were hungry. She gave them formula by syringe and put kibble, water, and canned food in their cage.

Karen was particularly concerned about that tiny kitten, so she was glad to send the family off in just two days to foster care with ACT V. I decided to step out of my hiatus from fostering to try to help with group, so I met the transport and brought Eddy the pup and the cat family to ACT V.
CLEO
Since Eddy seemed near death from dehydration and anemia, so he got immediate attention. I had some time to meet the family. Mama cat is a sleek brown tabby named Cleopatra for her long slim body and the beautiful markings on her face. The kittens included Leo, the fluffy tabby boy, Mickey & Minnie, the tuxedo brother and sister twins, and the tiny black sister was called Smidgen.

SMIDGEN
Smidgen had an echocardiogram on Wednesday which revealed mitral valve stenosis, tricuspid regurgitation, an enlarged right-sided heart and pulmonary hypertension. Obviously bad news.
However, she seems happy and she is eating. She even plays until she gets tuckered out.

Ponemah kittens

NOTE FROM DR. VICKI AT ACT V:
Little Cleo came from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue with her brothers Antony and Caesar to ACT V a couple of  weeks ago.
Initially everything seemed ok, but then Cleo stopped eating. All of her lab work and x-rays were normal. She is not sick. We think she is suffering from stress anorexia. Today we bit the bullet and put in a nasoesophageal tube in. Hopefully, she'll decide food is good again. Until then, we can get more calories in with the tube.

The clothes were at her request ;-)

FOLLOW-UP:
Cleo recovered fully and she and Caesar have already been adopted!

23 animals turned in to RLRR in ONE day: HELP!

I know that all the rescues in the state are swamped with surrendered adult animals and unwanted kittens and puppies from unspayed and unneutered adults. We are working on spay/neuter, but at this moment we need to do our best to help these lives with nowhere to go through no fault of their own.

This is why "open door" facilities still exist. They can take in an endless number of animals because they use the option of euthanizing even adoptable animals. Humans need to be more responsible.

Please contact Karen directly if you can help or write to blog@redlakerosie.org.

Among the animals that came in yesterday:
RAVENRaven juvenile, petite, spayed, AHPP and Rabies shots, HW neg Lymes pos on doxy. Nice girl.
