We wanted to send you Christmas greetings again this year from former Red Lake Rosie's Rescue kids!
Phoenix (aka Cinnamon) is doing very well. She is quite the love and is learning hand signals! No formal training on this either - but if we point in one direction, off she goes in that direction! If we put our finger up to our lips & say "sshh"..she immediately becomes quiet and listens. She is also quite the mouse hunter - I'm thinking it's from surviving alone for 1-1/2 years. But she never bothers my inside cats when she's in the house. She is incredibly smart and is still the "boss" of all the boy dogs.
Dylan is still doing great too. He still goes to the chiropractor every 6 months, but we have seen no indication of issues with his back, which is very encouraging! He loves to play with the other dogs, but has no interest in hunting anything (unlike Phoenix). He appears to be a "lover" and not a "fighter"! He is also the instigator to get the other dogs running over to the fence to bark at our neighbor dog. He'll start running over to the fence - stop and look back at them - and pretend to run again to get them to run with him. Quite the tease! The Husky is also coming out in him - boy, can he talk! It's fun to hear him carry on.
Casey (aka Eddie) is doing good too. He watches Phoenix & I know is learning a lot from her. He's not quite so interested in hunting as she is, but will run with her if she chases something. If he's alone, he doesn't "hunt" like she does. He loves his stuffed toys and loves to play football outside. He is always carrying around some stuffed animal toy, and I have to keep him from going outside with them, where they'll get lost or weathered. He's learned to throw the toy at the door before going outside (tantrum??) He has learned what "football" means and will run and find one of his 3 outside footballs when we ask him where it is. He loves to chase it, but not quite willing to give it back all the time! When he gets frustrated (when Phoenix steals his toy) or excited (when we just get home), he howls like a train whistle! Not sure where he gets that from, but we love it!
Apollo, the big cream/white shepherd in the picture, is from a local rescue and tries to keep Dylan in check. Even though he has slight difficulty walking now, he still tries to chase Dylan occasionally. He's doing great for 12 years old!
They are quite the crew and we love them so much. Each has their own personality and it's so fun to watch them together. Thank you Karen for all you do and for rescuing these beautiful babies. Have a very safe and Merry Christmas and Happy New Years!
Love, Cliff and Tammy

Such handsome dogs!!
Three of these four dogs came from Red Lake -- Remember their formal portraits from last year?. They have had the chance to achieve their full potential and they are obviously happy and healthy (See this previous post with the Red Lake BEFORE photos of Dylan and Phoenix/Cinnamon). A BIG Thanks to their adopters and our supporters and rescue partners like Act V who make happy endings like this possible!!
NOTE FROM ADOPTERS:
I'd like to wish you a very Merry Christmas again this year!
Attached is a 2011 Christmas Card from 3 Red Lake angels. They are all doing very well - they all love to play in the snow (now that we got a little!).
Phoenix (aka Cinnamon) is teaching Casey to hunt rabbits - it seems to be her life long dream!
Luckily she hasn't caught any, but she's teaching Casey to stand very still and look in the distance - it's funny seeing them standing together, almost with identical stances!
Dylan is doing well too - he prefers to sit and watch them - chasing things doesn't interest him. He'd prefer to "supervise"!
Apollo still tries to chase his tail and is beginning to bark (thanks to Casey, who is teaching Phoenix to bark too!). She never barked before Casey taught her how! It's so fun to watch them learn from each other!
I've attached some other "fun" pictures of them too!
They are such a joy - thank you so much for saving them! I admire the energy and determination you have to save these beautiful animals.
Have a very Merry Christmas and blessed New Years!
Love,

Christmas greetings from some lucky dogs
To really appreciate how wonderful this story is, you must return to the sad orgins of Dylan and Phoenix (aka Cinnamon) at Red Lake.
DYLAN
PHOENIX
Look again at the beautiful dogs in the Christmas card. You don't have to know much about dogs to notice how healthy they look now and, perhaps just as importantly, they hold up their heads and their eyes shine. Would you have believed it was possible?
You are part of the miracle when you support Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

Dylan & Phoenix: Best Friends Forever
Dylan was crippled in his rear legs and was taken by to Akin Vet Hospital by Dr. Bartsch and Lauren. What a great update from his new home with another Red Lake dog, Phoenix. Our vet told us we may have to euthanize Dylan, but look at him now!! Karen
PHOENIX & DYLAN
Hi Karen!
I thought I'd give you an update on "Phoenix" (aka Cinnamon) and her new boyfriend "Dylan". When I went to Akin Hills Pet Hospital in Farmington for another reason in September, I was told Dylan was looking for a home again. I remembered him from last fall when he was looking for a home, so I decided to give it a try.
I introduced him and Phoenix at the clinic, but Phoenix did not seem to like him. I decided to try him at home, just to give him a chance. On the third day, I let them sniff each other more and meet each other on a long leash and suddenly Phoenix did a play bow, looked up at me with the happiest grin I've ever seen and ran in tight little circles - I've never seen her so excited. I believe he was a puppy at the same time she had her puppies at Red Lake. Could she have remembered him?
From that moment on, they have been best of friends - constantly playing together - he bites her cheek or leg, and she takes it. She's very gentle with him and they play together like they've known each other forever. He still goes to physical therapy, but he's doing very well.
Dylan is such a beautiful boy, inside and out - we are so lucky to have him. I know Phoenix thinks so too! We are so blessed to have these two wonderful dogs, and two other rescued dogs. My shy white shepherd is even beginning to play more with Dylan around. We are so lucky to have the dogs we have.
Thank you Karen for all you do and for saving these two wonderful dogs.

Cinnamon has recovered like a Phoenix
This is a story of Cinnamon (now known as Phoenix) who was rescued by myself and Marilou on her last trip up here.
She was found in an old doghouse with no bedding.
Phoenix was found with a litter of 6 pups.
Poor mama was starving, all her ribs and backbone protruding.
She came to the shelter on December 11th with her litter and within 9 days all went to Last Hope Rescue. The pups were all adopted and Cinnamon also was adopted to a great home.
The preceding pictures were taken on the date of her rescue, and you can compare to the great life she has in her new home as described below. They love her and say she is the most wonderful dog ever. I relayed to them that it is because she is so appreciative for the great home and comforts she now has after suffering so long.
Thank you to all the volunteers, financial supporters, transporters, and rescues for helping Phoenix and others like her. It is heartwarming to see these positive results.

NOTE AND PHOTOS FROM ADOPTER:
Thank you so much for writing a thank you note for adopting one of your
dogs! We adopted Phoenix (formerly Cinnamon) in December. She was the mother of a litter of the puppies that Akin Hills Veterinary Hospital in Farmington brought back. She is incredible.
I have 3 other dogs, one 13 years old, one 7 years old, and a handicapped dog who is around 8 years old. All are rescues. Phoenix is SO great with all the dogs - respects my 13 year old, plays a lot with my 7 year old.
My handicapped dog has Degenerative Myelopathy, so he cannot walk and we help him get around. But he will make his way over to where she's playing with a toy and will steal the toy from her. Phoenix is SO good - she doesn't get aggressive, just waits until he turns his head, then steals it back. It is so funny!
We are so very lucky to have adopted her. She is a joy to be around.
Thank you for all you do - and for helping the animals!
