TICKS!!

A very bad tick season is predicted for 2012 due to the early spring and dry conditions at Red Lake. Outdoor dogs and cats suffer from tick diseases, infections, and anemia due to these blood-sucking parasites. The most common diseases on our reservation are Lymes, Anaplasma, and Ehrlichia which affect joints and organs of your pet, and eventually may cause death. Ticks are a grave danger to your pet is left untreated.
Flea and tick collars are the least expensive option, but are not the most effective. Biospot or Adams Tick medication is applied to the skin on the neck between the shoulder blades. It needs to be put on dry skin. These products can be purchased at Walmart or L & M Fleet. Frontline and Revolution are other brands but are more expensive and may be purchased at your vet. MAKE SURE YOU FOLLOW INSTRUCTIONS REGARDING DOSAGE.

90% of the dogs that come to the Red Lake Rosie's animal shelter have tick infestation and are already affected by Lymes and Anaplasmosis. We are telling Red Lake residents if have pets, it is very important to treat ticks very seriously.

We are asking the supporters of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue if anyone can donate flea and tick products or, better yet, make a donation so that we may purchase medication to have available for the animals that come into our clinics or the shelter. Because these products are costly, we have a limited supply.

We did NOT have flea and tick products at the last 2 clinics and sadly most of the animals came in with these parasites.

Life for them is misery with infestation. We can greatly improve the quality of life with a monthly application of a tick treatment.

Sincerely, Karen RLRR

From what I have read, Frontline
over-the-counter (from Foster &
Smith) is supposed to be the best
of all the over-the-counter. Are
you ok with this as well?
