On Tuesday, May 15th, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call from the Circle Pines Housing Project that Smiley, a small breed male dog, was attacked by another dog four days ago, and is very ill.
He has a badly infected bone in the rear leg and has, what the local vet thinks, is blood in the lungs.
Smiley spent the night at the Gonvick vet and they gave an assessment and treated him with antibiotcs and pain meds.
He was at the Red Lake Rosie Shelter for only one day before Dr. Bartsch and Lindsay of Akin Hills responded to our call for help and agreed to take Smiley.
Thankfully Nancy O'Sullivan and Nancy Blanck answered the impromptu call and transported Smiley on Thursday, May 17th.
Nancy also transported a litter of orphan kits (baby rabbits-
waboose) who were left orphaned when their mama was killed near the Bemidji area. The rabbits are going to Wild and Free, Wildlife Rehabilitation Center, in Garrison, MN.
Thank you to all the transporters and rescue groups taking these animals in so quickly and efficiently. We have the greatest network in the whole world!
Peace- Karen Good

Smiley is doing well in the great care of Lindsay. It turned out that He had a crushed trachea and the leg wound and is doing very well. Thank you friends from Akin Hills Pet Hospital!
I'd love some "after" photos when he looks a little happier -- you know, smiley!
