Lydia leaves her troubles behind

Lydia, the chocolate lab mix, came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue August 3, 2013. She was emaciated and had bullet wounds through her shoulder and under her chin, but was struggling to care for her seven puppies. (Search for "lydia" to see her earlier posts.)

We were so happy when ARVSS rescue in Wisconsin was willing to take her in and provide for her continuing medical care, as well as providing care and finding homes for her pups.
Lydia is all smiles with Susie of ARVSS
Lydia is very serious when watching football with Matt of ARVSS
Lydia became friends with Marcus another RLRR dog recovering at ARVSS
In March, Lydia was adopted by a loving family
UPDATE FROM LYDIA'S ADOPTERS:
Hi Susie,

We are very happy with Lydia here in our home, she has adjusted to us and we to her very well. We can't imagine a better fit to our home and property.

Lydia and Rosko, our other dog, go out together several times each day and I must say she behaves better than he does. She responds to her name and understands what "no" means. Her behavior couldn't be better.

The first day that she and Rosko were left alone in the house (for about 4 hours) she met me at the door looking guilty about something (you know, the "crawl of shame" posture). I gave her some love, then looked all around for any evidence of naughty behavior and found not one thing. Perhaps she thought that we had deserted her that day, because she now greets us with much enthusiasm.

The dogs each have their own beds, of course, but Lydia prefers sleeping on the couch at night (I would too!) We notice a gradual "relaxing" of her demeanor as time goes by.

She'll come to us for affection quite frequently. We are just as much in love with her as she seems to be with us.

We hope that you and Matt are well and providing care for more deserving canines.

Regards, D & B

Lydia: Packers or Vikings??

Lydia was found with serious gunshot wounds and trying to care for five pups.  (See her earlier posts.
After surgical repairs and loving foster care with Matt and Susie of ARVSS in Wisconsin, her puppies are weaned, she is spayed and ready for adoption. How pretty and sweet is she?!

Thank you ARVSS for the great care you gave this very sick girl! She looks so wonderful!

Sincerely, Karen Good

Ongoing care of Lydia

UPDATES ON LYDIA FROM ARVSS:
Lydia had x-rays that showed that the bullet that went through her laid down a whole bunch of metal shards that will need to be removed. She also has a chip on one of her bones that will be removed also. In surgery they will cut a large area between the entry and exit wounds, clean up the inside and suture it back up :)

In addition, a vet at the clinic specializes in dentistry. He noticed Lydia has a dead canine tooth. So he has volunteered his time to give her a root canal so she does not loose the tooth!!! :) That will be done at a later date. That same vet is thinking of adopting her or one of her puppies!

She is now on stronger pain killers also. She was pretty tired all day at the clinic, but was happy again when we got home.

UDPATE TWO:
The surgery went really well. The Doctor pulled out two chipped bones and just a couple of the pieces of metal, her joint was pushed out of place and he put that back. And after looking at the injury under her chin, he realized he could see her jaw bone!!!! So they sutured that up too.

They kept her over night so they could keep her on good drugs a little longer, until the inflammation from the surgery goes down. I will pick her up this morning.

She could not have had a better doctor.!

Here's the update from ARVSS on Lydia the mama dog suffering from the gunshot wounds. She is doing great and is bearing weight on her leg. Her five puppies are also doing well

Thank you ARVSS, Matt, Susie, Ellen and all members of the committee.

Lydia and her puppies on transport to Wisconsin today!

I shared Lydia's story over the weekend, see that post here. I am happy to report that ARVSS, Animal Rescue and Veterinary Support Services in Stoughton, WI is taking in Lydia with her gunshot wound and her darling puppies.
Puppies!
Today is the long transport with several volunteers driving: Karen will bring the precious cargo to meet Tom and Nancy O'Sullivan in Bemidji; the O'Sullivans drive Bemidji to Motley, Barbie Olson from Motley to the Metro, Kristin Ripley from the Metro to Black River Falls, Wisconsin, to meet Susie and Matt enroute to ARVSS, and everyone has the drive home after their leg of the transport. Thanks to all!!

Smoke and kittens
The four tiniest kittens from Smoke's litter of eight are hitching a ride on the transport as far as the Metro to go to Pet Haven foster care via Mary Ann. Karen is still looking to place the gray mama cat Smoke and her four remaining kittens, and the three tortie kittens who are 8-10 weeks old and well-socialized thanks to a recent visit from Youth Works kids! They were featured in an earlier blog post here.

Denise
Torties
Hi friends:  I want to thank each and every one of you for your kind and quick mobilization to get Lydia and her litter of 5 to ARVSS and the 4 little kittens to Pet Haven.

Please let us know how Lydia heals from her wounds.  She also has a bullet graze wound under her jaw.

THANK YOU ALL! Karen and Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

Midweek transport

On June 23rd, we were able to place two black dogs in the Headwaters Humane Society. Many times it is hard to find placements for black dogs. Both Lydia and Tipper are great dogs. They have been spayed and vaccinated and are adoption ready. We were so happy to know that both dogs are heartworm negative. We believe they will both get good homes.

TOM & LYDIATom, Nancy and Carolyn met Karen in Bemidji to transport Lydia and Tipper to Park Rapids. They also delivered food and supplies sent by Barbara from the last transport.

TIPPER
We appreciate the transporters who make RLRR successful.
