A precious new life at Christmastime

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call from a lady in Rice Lake, a community on the White Earth Reservation that a female dog would need to be taken or would be shot. Our friends Bill, Teresa, and Cassie responded and brought CiCi to the RLRR shelter.

Karen then reached out to Jenny (Leech Lake Legacy, Program Director) about Cici. We suspected she was pregnant so we reached out to our amazing temp foster, Heidi, who immediately agreed to take Cici until she had her puppies.

 UPDATE FROM HEIDI::
I felt like a kid waiting for Santa to come on Christmas night! I was filled with excitement waiting for Cici, my first mother, to have her babies.

Cici is just one of the many precious reservation animals who made her way into our teams helping hands and open hearts. Cici is wonderful, a gentle soul and a sweet spirit. What a great girl she is, having her around is a treat.

Saturday, December 20th, around 2:00am she woke up and I knew it was time. Shortly before 8:00am a beautiful baby girl was born. Her name would be Gabriella, Gabby. I was overwhelmed with emotion. It was just magic; that's the first birth I've ever seen! More then excited I was just in awe. Well one hour goes by, two hours go by and no more babies. Long story short with the guidance and advice of Dr Vicki, Jean, and Julie, Cici was going to the vet. An x ray showed an empty uterous. Cici had a litter of ONE! Didn't see that one coming! However, relieved we went home to rest.

Cici is a mother in every sense of the word. She is caring, watchful, diligent. She loves that little girl, and I wonder if having just one increases her nurturing or if she is just naturally a great mother.
It is my absolute pleasure to be apart of Cici, and of course Gabby's story.

From Cici, Gabby, and myself a big thanks to everyone!

Saturday transport

DeeDee came to the shelter on Friday, brought 1/2 pallet of canned dog foods and other supplies and spent the day working at the shelter. Then on Saturday, Sept. 5, she took a transport of 12 dogs and puppies, and 6 cats out to various rescues including Pet Haven, Second Hand Dogs, Cause for Paws, Pet Projects and RLRR foster homes.

We are so thankful to have DeeDee on our team to help countless Red Lake animals!!

Sincerely, Karen Good

The Three Amigos

I want to share the story of the three amigos.

We got a call from a man who had 3 older chihuahuas and could no longer care for them. They are Gabby, Hosea and Harley. They got the nickname "The three amigos" at the shelter.

As it turned out they had Hosea (the male) first and he now is 11 years old. Then they got Harley who is 10 years old; she is a female now spayed.
Finally they got the baby, named Gabby, who is now 9 years old.

HOSEAWhen the three came to us on August 24th, they had lived indoors all their lives and now they are in a kennel. They do exercise with the group in the morning and evening and seem to be adjusting fine.

HARLEYWe are thankful that Pet Haven decided to take Harley and she left with Barbara on the transport. Pet Haven was inquiring about Gabby this morning.

GABBYWe appreciate that Pet Haven has often taken older dogs from Red Lake Rosie's and we want to thank them for their kindness.

Sincerely, Karen Good RLRR

G-puppies & a Special Thanks to those who transport

Karen rescued these pups (Gabby, Gwen & Gus) and two other dogs from a home where they had been abandoned. Unfortunately one other pup was found dead and frozen solid. Karen recounted:

We removed, Honey the mother and her 3 surviving pups, and Cindy Lou. Cindy Lou went to the vet and was spayed and got all shots. She was adopted to a loving home through Pet Haven.

The foster home for the puppies reports:

All three arrived safe and sound. Their papers state that they are Shepard cross puppies – go figure. All the dogs that came down from Red Lake said that. They are said to be 10 weeks old and about 15 lbs. Their papers also indicated they were abandoned when the people living in the house moved out and simply left them behind.
Very sweet puppies – great personality! They are little piglets eat everything in sight and drink water constantly. Many puddles and piles so far but we’ll work on that. They all take on Moose and Gracie. I think Moose must just look like a tree to climb or something to these small ones.

And, an UPDATE from the foster home to Karen:

Thought you'd like to see the payoff for some of your hard work.... I hope you feel a little ray of sunshine knowing if it were not for your hard work, and the wonderful drivers, these guys wouldn't be so happily snuggled on the kitchen floor.
Be sure to see the pictures of the puppy pile... I love them. Maybe you can pass it along to the drivers for us, along with our thanks?
