Update from former RLRR dog, Cheyenne Alicia

Update as of 9/1/14

Hello guys!

Cheyenne Alicia here live and on line to say hi to one and all: I’m fine and hope you are all well, too. Just wanted to write and let you know how I am doing ever since Karen rescued me from the reservation nearly four years ago.

I am thriving in my new home. Every day I am learning something new. Everything is so fascinating to me. This past weekend, I watched my mommy and daddy do a partial water change for our 55 gallon fish tank. I never saw such tiny babies, and they live in the water, too. If I did that, I’d drown. Those little fishes are so lucky because it is very hot down south, but they are living in a tank full of water.

I still have my own swimming pool, but don’t use it much because I live inside and don’t need it. We have air conditioning and fans to keep us cool when the weather is hot. Deer, raccoons, squirrels, birds, armadillos, and even a bobcat visit our property and call our eighteen acres home.

I know how to sit, stop, stay, come and shake my left paw. I’m learning how to shake my right paw, but it’s slow in coming because it isn’t on my agenda to do so, because I’m part Siberian Husky, but mommy says I’ll learn because I’m such a smart girl.

Did I tell you how very good of a girl I was last month? Daddy was putting away hard boiled eggs when one fell to the floor. I looked at the egg. I looked at daddy but didn’t touch it, and then he said I could have it because I was such a good girl and didn’t rush in and snatch it up. It was yummy too.

Every morning we eat breakfast and then share daddy’s breakfast with him. Sometimes we have pieces of boiled egg. Sometimes we have a piece of bacon and other times we have a piece of fruit. I could never have imagined anything like this. I could never have imagined having a mommy and daddy ever and I love it. I love them. They are so good to me. I hope that all the other doggies and kitties can be rescued and have as good as a home as I do.

The only thing I don’t like down south is the red ants and red wasps. They are both so mean. I got stung by a wasp last year, but mommy and daddy took care of it. Mommy gave me a Benadryl and I had no swelling or anything. My big brother Damon got stung last month but mommy and daddy took care of him too in the same way and he was fine.

My mommy brushes my thick coat of fur once a week whether I need it or not and it feels soooo good. I look even more beautiful afterwards. And I’m even a good girl when I have my pedicure. I love having a mommy and daddy to take care of me, and love me and protect me and play with me.

Thanks again for rescuing me. I am a very happy girl; safe and sound with my family. Hope you like the new photos mommy and daddy took of me to send with this update.

Until next time…be happy. Smile. I do now every day.

Love, Cheyenne formerly known as Alicia and not a very friendly girl. Now, I’m super friendly, with friends and family anyway. I still get scared with strangers and new things.

Cheyenne Alicia checks in

NOTE FROM ADOPTERS OF CHEYENNE ALICIA:
We are writing to just give you an update to let you know how our little Cheyenne formerly known as Alicia is doing. Nearly two years since we adopted her and two years since you rescued her; Cheyenne is still thriving as our little girl. She is still coming out of her protective shell she had been in for so long. In fact, this time we are going to let her write this update. Here she is…

Hi guys, Cheyenne here. I’m fine. My forever mommy and daddy say I can write this update this time. Isn’t that great? I love my forever family. I love living in the country on 18 acres. We have lots of trees where my big brother Damie can pee on. We get to run around with our mommy or daddy or both, but never alone. Mommy and daddy say we can’t just run free into the woods because we might get hurt or hurt other animals. I don’t want to hurt anything, but I do like to sniff. Every night when we go out into our fenced backyard before bedtime we see, hear and smell all kinds of wildlife. There are deer, armadillos, bobcats, foxes, raccoons, rabbits and lots and lots of different kinds of birds. We even have two small birds living on our patio in our rolled up bamboo blind. My mommy and daddy love animals and we have two big deer feeders on our property that shoots out corn for them and small critters that come here. We also have lots of bird feeders and houses. Everyone is welcome. Last night, we heard coyotes yipping out in our woods not too close and not too far away. Last month, I found a turtle in our backyard when we were on our walk with mommy. I didn’t know what it was. I don’t think the turtle was afraid of me; he just kept crawling along while I kept nudging at it. It finally crawled away off into the high grass we keep for small critters to live in. Last month, I also met fireflies. Wow! I was so scared. I didn’t know what they were. They kept buzzing around me and chasing me and their butts were on fire. Finally, I chased them away.

I am such a lucky girl. I never knew there ever could be anything like this. Every morning I get to wake up from my spot at the foot of my mommy and daddy’s big comfy bed with big brother Damon with me. Every night I get to sleep on the big comfy bed with mommy, daddy and Damie and sometimes Princess, when she feels like it. Princess is my very older sister, but she is so small. She is a cat. She says she knows everything. I believe her because she is 18 years old and has been with our mommy and daddy for 18 years. They rescued her from a kill shelter a long, long, long time ago. She is a lucky girl too. Sadly, my older, but little brother Charlie died in late July. He had lung cancer and went quickly and peacefully at home. My mommy and daddy took care of him until he died. He was 17. I miss him so much. He always played with me and Damon. Did I ever tell you that when mommy and daddy first brought me home that Charlie was the first one to greet me? I was so scared. I was so scared to go into the house because I had been outside my whole life. My new mommy and daddy had placed a comfy dog bed near the back door for me. I was so scared that I stayed on that bed. My first five minutes in my new home, Charlie the cat had come up to me and rubbed himself against me and nuzzled me too. He made me feel safe. Now he is gone.

I know how to sit, stay and stop on command. Mommy taught me. I also know how to come when they call me, which mommy and daddy says is really important. I still don’t know how to shake on command, but that is not on my agenda yet. I do know how to do it without being told to. I also know the commands used with only hand signals. Mommy and daddy said I am very smart girl. I am a very happy girl, too. Every day I get to play with my big brother Damon in our yard. He gets really crazy sometimes. He doesn’t know how to relax and conserve his energy. I am an expert at that. Sometimes he gets so rough, but I can hold my own. I yell at him and he stops, for a minute or two. He is great. I just love him. I go everywhere with him. We also get to walk with mommy or daddy or both around our property for exercise. Thanks to Damon, I am learning how to snuggle. Snuggling is great! I love to nuzzle mommy and daddy’s face. I also really, really like belly rubs. They are so great! I also love to chase mommy and daddy when they walk away from me and I sing at them for not to leave me. They are so good to me. They talk to me and tell me how much they love me. My favorite part of the day is when mommy finishes working and hugs me and Damon at the same time. I love that! I love when daddy comes home; mommy lets us go outside and greet daddy when he gets out of his car. I always sing to him. Damon always brings him a present: one of our stuffed toys. We have lots and lots of toys. My favorite is a stuffed football and a stuffed hedgehog. They’re so cushy. I love everything. Mommy and daddy says my eyes open real wide when I see something new because it is new to me. I’m used to riding in the car now and even like it. I especially like to come up front and put my face in between the front seats to get the cool air from the air conditioning on a hot day! I don’t think I’ll ever love car rides as much as my big brother, Damon does, but I’ll always go wherever he does anyway. He is my buddy, my pal and I will go with him anywhere because he is 7 and he knows everything, too. I’m still a baby, mommy and daddy says, because I never had a family before.

I love living down south. The summers are very hot, but I have my very own kiddie pool just for me, but I share it with Damon. We also go to the beach and I love walking along the shore in the sand and going in the water. Don’t drink the water or lick the sand. Yuck! I miss the snow from Minnesota, but I love my forever family more than I miss the snow. Florida is beautiful. My mommy took some photos of me to send with this. I hope you like them. Thank you so much for rescuing me! I am very, very happy now!

Love,

Cheyenne Alicia

Cheyenne Alicia: Her good life

Just a quick note and some recent photos of our little girl, Cheyenne Alicia...hope you like them. You'll find photos of her at home and in the backyard. There is also one photo of her first trip to the beach: her first trip to the ocean and as you can see, she loves it.

Cheyenne is doing fantastic. She's settled into country living like a pro, as if she has always been here. Sometimes she is the first to hear something outside and she is quick to let us know by barking and running around the living room. Her canine brother is quick behind. Sometimes we let them out to check on things; sometimes we don't. When we do she is quick to follow Damon out into the yard, each of them running to a different corner of the fenced yard to see what is invading their space. Of course, by their barking, whatever it is is gone quickly. Sometimes it is deer down at our deer feeder; they look back up at the dogs unafraid. Sometimes it is a raccoon wandering around the property. Cheyenne is very proud of herself when she protects her property, and deservedly so.

She has become quite a homebody. She remains on a long rope connected to her leash and harness with Damon on the other end. She can only run away as far as he'll let her. Every time we walk, though, we unleash Damon and Cheyenne follows him close behind. We've let her off the leash a few times and she's been a good girl following Damon out of the house to the car to greet Daddy and when they go in, she is right behind them. She is very much a family dog, but every now and then the huntress comes out in her when she hears, sees or smells something. Because the Husky Spirit is so strong in her, we can't let her fully off the leash just yet. Though, after a full year in our new home, we will begin to try and do so slowly and see what happens.

She is still playing mother to our two senior cats, Charlie and Princess.

Some of her favorite things to do: curling up on the couch or bed with mommy and /or daddy and getting loving. She loves getting her cheeks and ears rubbed. And if you stop too early, she'll grab your arm or hand with her paw. She loves when mommy bends hown and hugs both she and Damon at the same time. She also loves when mommy sits down on the middle of the sofa and they each get a side and time to cuddle with her. She loves food and is quite the chow hound. We have to watch that she she doesn't get too fat, as she likes to lounge around while Damon wants to go, go, go. Her favorite food is the same as Princess: fresh seafood. She even likes mango, broccoli, zucchini and cheese. She does enjoy going for family walks everyday; she walks so proudy on her leash alongside Damon in front of us. She now looks forward to her Sunday drives with Damon and daddy. She's still not sure of it and cringes whenever a big rig goes by us on the drive.

CHEYENNE & DAMON AT THE BEACHShe loves and adores her big brother, Damon and can't be separated from him. One night Damon had to spend over at the veterinary hospital to remove a fatty lipoma and she was lost without his presence. She wouldn't eat without him. She enjoyed her walk but you could see she missed him. Good thing he wasn't gone for long. Of course, when we went to pick up Damon, she had to come along and she "sang" to him at the hospital when she heard him come out. She hadn't even seen him yet. She was so happy to see him again.

As I write this, she is alongside me, cuddled up with her head close to me, grabbing my left arm when I stop petting her. Ever try to type with just one hand? She's a sweetie. She's truly a loving, beautiful, protective girl and we are so glad we adopted her. She's only been with us fifteen months now, but it seems as if she has been with us forever. Damon loves her too, and is very protective of her, especially around other dogs. He won't let them near her and she won't let other dogs near him. In the dog park that is different; they are socializing and have no problem with that. When we clip his nails, she stays close by. When we clip her nails, Damon is close by his eyes steady on the "evil nail clippers."

Well, have to run. Thanks again for all you do. The dogs, cats and families THANK YOU!!

Regards,
The S----
