Angel finds heaven in her forever home

Fallen Angel at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

When Angel arrived at Red Lake Rosie's in the spring of 2015, she was full of sores with sparse hair -- a victim of demodex mange and malnourishment.

Angel began a journey of healing at the RLRR shelter that would eventually lead her to meeting Vicki who adopted her on October 2nd of that same year. Vicki, Lydjia and Bonnie were volunteering at the shelter tarping the kennels for winter when Vicki met Angel and knew they were meant to be together.

This is just one example of how our supporters help us heal so many dogs struggling to survive the devastating effects of mange and starvation. Together we can end the lifelong suffering of many more dogs like our wonderful Angel!

Little Angel Eyes

Angel, a white husky shepherd mix, came to Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue on April 19th from a Leech Lake Legacy event on the Leech Lake Reservation. Angel was transported by Tom and Nancy
directly to the RLRR shelter as she had a severe case of demodex and saracoptic mange and needed our help. She also had a bleeding colon.

On intake poor Angel was very thin and rundown with sores all over her body and white tufts of hair here and there. I imagined how lovely and stunning this girl was going to be in a few weeks with good nutrition, antibiotics, antiparasitics, and, of course, love.

We quickly learned that Angel had a wonderful loving personality. It did not take her long to adjust to walking on a leash, and then to free roaming. Angel runs around the shelter and then eagerly goes into her kennel space to get her canned food, medication, and supplements. Angel gets along with all the other animals at the shelter and adores human contact.

We are so thankful we have all the necessary supplies and space to provide for the healing of Angel and others like her. Thank you to all our supporters and to Leech Lake Legacy for sharing this
wonderful dog with us. Nancy calls her “Little Angel Eyes" as she has one blue eye and one brown eye.

Carma's visit: Angel

Carma Hedlund is a professional animal groomer in Roseau, MN, and has generously volunteered to groom animals at numerous Red Lake Rosie's Rescue clinics in Redby, MN. However, I believe this was her first visit to the shelter for RLRR and first visits always have a special impact. I'll share her thoughts and photos on the blog over the next few days. NOTES FROM CARMA:
Last Sunday I spent the afternoon with Karen at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. I had a wonderful time! I think that I will be going back more often to sit in the kennel with this wonderful little girl. I call her Angel, I believe that Karen calls her Adriana. 

She has been with Karen for sometime now. She was a feral dog, and because of that Karen can’t let her out with the other dogs. She has no status within the pack and is an outcast.

I spent time with her, in her kennel, playing, hugging, and talking to her. She is a sweetheart. I think of her everyday.

Angel

Hi Karen,

I adopted Angel the tortoiseshell kitty last June. Angel was depressed and had impaired kidney function. My friend was preparing to take her to Red Lake when I saw a picture and she caught my heart. I took Angel to my vet, and he said with proper diet, she could live another 5+ years. She is now on a prescription diet.

When I received her, she was a little depressed bag of bones, but now she rules my house, including my 100 lb. Newfoundland mix dog. She is chubby and sassy and truly believes she is the boss. She likes to cuddle, but only on her terms. She is the feistiest kitty, and we love her dearly!

I've attached two pictures of Angel helping us bake Christmas cookies (she is always present when food is involved), and one of her napping with my partner R~ (one of their favorite togetherness activities).

Thank you for all you do, and thank you so much for this little bundle of fur who is now a forever part of our family.
