Moxie and her brothers

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER: Moxie came from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue to join our family in February of 2008.
In December of that year, we were asked to foster a young male Flat-coated retriever mix that needed hip surgery, that's when Scout joined us. He & Moxie hit it off immediately.
In September of 2010 Scout's brother Colt needed a home ASAP. Colt was extremely timid due to being in an abusive and neglectful situation for the first 2 1/2 years of his life. We became his forever home, reuniting the brothers & finally providing Colt with a safe and loving haven in which he continues to blossom!

I plead with everyone to please consider the "shy" dogs! Also, on Moxie's behalf, I hope people will consider the not-so-perfect-looking dog. Although it seems that everyone finds her crooked nose very charming!

Scout finds home & family

SMILING SCOUT & ALLENIn July of 2010, two very hungry juvenile dogs, Scout and Cee Cee (littermates) were brought to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. As time went on it was clear that Cee Cee was a very tame and friendly girl who soon was spayed and off to All Dog Rescue.

CEE CEE, SCOUT'S SISTERScout, however, after he was fattened up and neutered, decided he no longer wanted to be in a kennel or on a leash and became one of the RLRR pack. For one year, he was a free-spirit at the shelter. He was a beautiful dog that soon became alpha male as Grandpa shepherd slowly got more and more disabled. He always respected Grandpa, however, and would bow to him.

Many volunteers were very fond of Scout and his beauty and spirit.

SCOUT ON ARRIVAL AT RLRROne day Shelly visited the shelter looking for a dog in July, 2011. She lived with her husband Allen on a farm and had horses and really wanted a dog. She looked at all the dogs and she said, "I like that one" pointing at Scout. I said, "Good luck on catching Scout. He is really elusive and does not want to be confined or controlled in any way." I tried to discourage her, but Shelly had her mind set on Scout and spent considerable time trying to get him to come to her with treats and sweet talk.

She left disappointed, but continued to call about Scout. I offered that I would do my best to catch and crate Scout for her and if I could not I would enlist the help of Dr. Shannon at the vet to help me with a catch pole.

Well, thanks to Jodi who was visiting, Scout was tricked that day and we managed to get him leashed and into a crate, and Shelly was so happy. He was delivered to her and I was hoping all would work out for Shelly and her family and Scout. Shelly planned on working with him.

SCOUT'S FARMToday, Lauren and I visited the farm and there was Scout, transformed into a tame dog. Allen told us "Scout is a good dog". It was such a great day to see how well he was doing, and encouragement not to give up on the feral dogs, as they are all "good dogs". They just need the right people to connect with.

SCOUT'S FARMScout sleeps with his best friend the cat. He enjoys the family and the horses at the farm.

SCOUT & LAURENThank you to everyone who helped rescue and get Scout to the home he was destined to have. Although Scout recognized us and entertained us for a while, when we left, he turned and left walking with Allen.

SCOUT & KARENHe was home indeed!

Sincerely, Karen

Local helpers, Janelle & Keith

The days are long at Red lake Rosie's. An evening call let us know of 2 hungry shepherds in the Little Rock area west of Red Lake. Janelle and Keith are two great kids who visit the shelter often.

JANELLE & KEITHThey quickly answered the call tonight and went to find the two shepherds and brought them to the shelter. Their owner was a handicapped man who admitted he could not care for them, so he surrendered them.

Janelle lured them in her car with a box of milkbone and once they got the box, they refused to give it up. They ate most of the treats before they got to the shelter!

We are not sure yet if they are boys or girls, but they enjoyed an evening meal gulping up the food in less than one minute and settled in their kennel. Tomorrow will be a new day for them, as the food and water will keep coming. Soon they will feel more at ease and be ready for a new life.

A special thanks to these two great young people who really care about the animals. They have brought many dogs to the shelter over the past year.

Karen

UPDATE:
Hi--here are pics of Cee Cee and Scout the two hungry dogs that Janelle and Keith rescued. They have both been to the vet this week and are putting on weight.

Foxie Moxie fosters Scout

Check out this marvelous photo! I was just thinking that we hadn't had an update on Moxie in a while. Her mom was an early contributor to this blog. I'm so pleased to hear that she is fostering now, too.

SCOUT AND MOXIEHi all!
Took the dogs, Moxie & her foster brother, Scout, for a hike at Banning State Park, 10/11/09. They are so good off-leash!! Staying close, coming when called. They had such a good time, and made being there even better!

Thanks to you all for the dogs you have helped bring into my life, for working hard to keep bringing dogs into peoples lives, and for helping me to join you in this gratifying work.

Love
Darcie ~ mom of Moxie, foster mom of Scout
