George is all about smiles and tail wags now!

Back in March, we shared the story "What Happened to George?" This dog was surrendered to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue after coming home with terrible injuries. In addition to the injuries on his head and legs, he was skinny and dirty and infected with heartworm, anaplasmosis, and lymes diseases!

GEORGE PATCHED TOGETHER ON ARRIVAL
George has been at RLRR now for over six months and has recovered his health and his spirit. He decided he was not a shelter dog and decided to move up to the house, where he claims ownership. He is safe and well nourished as you can tell by the photographs.

He has a wonderful personality and is very happy now -- He smiles all the time and greets me every time I enter the yard. George is the alpha male in the front yard and he takes his job seriously watching for any intruders.

Thank you to our supporters who help dogs like George have a nice life as it was mean to be.

I just love George! Karen

Happy adoption!

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue dog George was recently adopted by a wonderful family.

UPDATE FROM ADOPTERS:
We can't begin to tell you how much we love George and what a sweet little boy he is. We feel so thankful and lucky to have him. Watching my kids love and care for him is a true gift. Thank you to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue for all that you do!

What Happened to George?

On March 6th, I was stopped in back of the Red Lake Village trying to catch three elusive dogs. Unsuccessful there, I went on to my next stop to find George --- perhaps the real reason I was there.

Cindy and her son had asked me to take an older dog they called George because he had serious wounds and was not doing well without vet care.

George disappeared, they said, approximately 18 days ago and then returned 4 days later. They think the injury took place on or about the weekend of February 14th.

When George came home he had a long laceration from one ear to the other ear all across the top of his head. His ear was sliced in half. His legs were also wounded and bleeding. George was very fearful. They were hoping he would heal up- but now they wanted to let Red Lake Rosie's Rescue take him as a surrender as he was not doing so well.

They said George did not have any of the scars on his head or legs before he disappeared. It is not known what caused George’s injuries or detainment for 4 days!

Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue immediately took George to the Cornerstone Veterinarian Service in Gonvick to assess and treat his injuries, neuter, vaccinate and do some tests. Unfortunately, not only did George have the injuries, but he also was positive for heartworm, anaplasmosis, and lymes diseases!

As the days passed, George rapidly became very friendly. He faithfully follows me around the shelter and eagerly takes his medicine. George roams free in the shelter all day and then is tucked in a kennel at night.

For the time being, George is safe and healing here at the shelter. We expect he may be here for an extended period of time. George is no trouble- He is a great dog and one day will find his forever home.

More George pictures after l week. He seems to have a little sparkle in his eyes, so we know he is feeling better. He is a mess right now, but he is a sweetheart.

We are thankful that Cindy and her son let us take George, and thankful to all the supporters who provide RLRR medical funds to help George and others like him!

Sincerely, Karen

Smilin' George :-)

In July, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call from a young man in Circle Pines. He had a homeless Rottweiler mix that came to his home and he was hoping he could keep him. The problem was he did not have food and the dog he called “George” had sores all over and loss of hair. A case of severe mange.
The RLRR van made a visit to meet George and the nice man, Justin. It was clear to see that George needed to have daily care with the extent of his demodex mange and malnourishment. Justin wanted to try and treat George himself as he said he was a nice dog. We left good quality grain-free food, ivermectin doses, and antibiotics to help with the skin infection.
One day a few weeks later, Justin called again and asked if we would come and get George. We went and then we could not find him. After several days, George finally returned to Justin’s home and I was able to pick him up.
At RLRR, George began his daily routine to work on his demodex with great results! At the shelter it was soon discovered that George also had this great personality. He loved to smile, and got along well with people and other dogs of all sizes.

He met John, a volunteer from All Dog Rescue, on August 17th. John and George were instant friends, and John offered to foster George as soon as George was well and Boone, his other foster dog, was adopted.

George went to the clinic and got neutered and vaccinated and continued his treatment for mange. His eyelids were turned under due to the mange so he had 2 successive eye surgeries to correct the condition.

He was so well-behaved, and soon his name evolved into Judge. When we called “Here Comes The Judge” that old cliché from Laugh In, George would make a beeline for his kennel with a big smile!
Finally on September 17, we sent George on transport to the foster care of John for All Dog Rescue. We miss him here, but are so happy that this homeless, mangy boy who wandered the projects in search of food could now have a bright future.
Thank you to rescuers, transporters, donors, and rescues who take these precious animals like Judge. He would have died a miserable death and no one would have ever known the sweet spirit inside that loves to smile -- now that he has something to smile about!

UPDATE FROM FOSTER HOME:
Danger danger... I haven't even had him for 24 hours and I'm completely smitten with George.

Easily one of the best foster dogs I've had yet. Great personality, very mellow, affectionate, loves everybody.

And he smiles. Did I mention that?

May 29 Transport: Sad/Glad Goodbyes

May 29 was a very good day at the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue shelter. Mike and I turned the animals loose in the morning and they had their last goodbyes as nine, mostly large adult dogs, left for Animal Allies in Duluth.

CARLA MAE & MIKEMike made the transport with the RLRR van which he will drive on to the metro after he makes the delivery of the animals. Animals riding were Dozer, Bruce, Carla Mae, Antoine, Gidget, George, Tammy, Bronze, and Mickie.

DOZERBRUCECARLA MAEGIDGETPUPS: GEORGE & TAMMYBRONZEMICKIEAlthough it was sad to let them go- it was a happy time knowing that they are having the opportunity to get a forever home which they all deserve.

These dogs are all neuter/spayed, vaccinated, wormed, and have tick application and are adoption ready. Bruce also had heartworm treatment before he left.

They are well socialized and ALL are wonderful dogs. This is one of the greatest bunches of dogs we have ever had.

Thank you Mike for making the long trek to Duluth for these kids.

When all the kennel gates were opened that morning, the dogs seemed to know that it was last goodbyes to RLRR. Kinda sad, but also a very happy time!!
