Twizzler's new home

Twizzler, another of my foster cats (son of Freckles and brother to Twyla, Diego & Dorito on the blog yesterday), settled right in at his new home. His family sent photos and captions. They nicknamed him the Goat because he wants to eat everything!

Freckles and family

Freckles and her four tiny kittens came to my house as fosters back in May after they were unceremoniously dumped at night in a box in the driveway at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

FRECKLES/DORITO/TWYLA/DIEGOFreckles, the mother cat, was extremely thin and ill and took a long time to regain her health, but she is gorgeous and energetic now. The kittens needed some supportive care, but they are beauties.

TWYLA & FRECKLESOddly, only one has been adopted and that is the one solid black kitten, Twizzler, but he was special with extra toes on both front feet. His new family adores him and encourages anyone else looking for a kitty companion to consider the rest of the family. Twizzler got along right away with the other cat in his new household and the kids!

DIEGO & DORITOThere are two orange tabby brothers, Diego who has white trim and Dorito who does not. Diego is more mischievous and Dorito is more mellow.

DORITO & DIEGOThey definitely want to find a home together and are a perfect matching pair and have been since they were tiny.

TWYLA & DORITOThere is also sister Twyla who is a tortie like her mother but with the softest medium length fur and a very lush tail. I usually just call her "Princess" because she knows she is one. She and her mom, Freckles, are buddies so they would make a great pair, but they could also go solo.

Freckles & her kittens

The night before the May clinic, there was a large dump of cats on the driveway in the middle of the night at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. There were seven adult cats and a mama cat with her newborn litter.

The mama was very skinny and had little milk. Her five kittens were newborn, perhaps a day old. The runt died on day 2 here at the shelter.

We are feeding mama kitten kibble and canned food and she is trying to be a good mama.

I know the metro is clogged up with kittens, but do you suppose there is a foster home out there for this little teen mama?

Thank you- Karen

When I received this note from Karen, I decided this group probably needed an experienced foster mom -- like me! The kittens were tiny and the mom was emaciated, dehydrated and had diarrhea. It took three trips to the vet for fluids, medicine, and special food, but all recovered fully. They were spayed/neutered on Tuesday and are ready for adoption!

Mom is a sweet, loving tortie with a bright speckled face, so I've named her Freckles.

The four kittens are three boys, two orange and one black, and one girl who is a tortie mini of her mom.

From left to right, Dorito is all bright orange with stripes and spots and Diego is a slightly buff orange with white feet and chest. The two orange boys are great pals and love to play.

The dark kittens are quieter and more lovey; they also tend to pair off together. Twyla is a pretty little fluffy dark tortie girl with an extra toe on one front foot -- how special! Twizzler is a sleek black kitten with an extra toe on each front foot and he is the biggest lap kitty of all.

Running for joy -- Licorice & Twizzler

Dr. Stefan Knep of St. Francis Animal & Bird Hospital in Roseville and his family adopted Licorice last winter. Here, Licorice and his friend and housemate, Twizzler, both Doxie mixes, get airborne together.

Dr. Knep and St. Francis Animal & Bird Hospital have generously supported RLRR by providing excellent medical care to Rosie's foster animals.

The RLRR twin cities foster/adoption network is very grateful for our partner veterinary hospitals and others:

Thanks to all who made weekend transport possible

We are so thankful today that we were able to place 30 dogs and puppies through a transport with Barbara and Jodi and her friend Chuck and Dee Dee.

In addition to the 18 tiny pups that went to Tricounty Humane Society for foster care, there were 12 others. I understand that there is going to be a reporter doing a newspaper story on the puppies that arrived at Tricounty in St. Cloud. I will be giving you more details on that as I get the information.

Here is who left:

HANNIBAL going to RLRR foster home

IDGIE going to Tricounty Humane Society

MARTY, DOUG AND BIF going to RLRR Foster home

MARGO is going to Dee Dee for foster care

HARLEY is going to Pet Haven foster home

SASHA just had heartworm treatment and is going to Patti Simonette, Second Hand Dogs in Claremont

JOY, little female shep spayed goes to TLC foster. Joy is absolute doll.

ANDY goes to RLRR foster home. He is such a great guy. He loves sitting in cars!!

CASEY is off to Act V. She is a great small to medium size husky mix with one blue eye and one brown eye. She has been spayed and has received mange treatment.

Last, but not least, is TWIZZLER, a smaller breed dog who came here Thursday as a result of a dog attack. He was already neutered at our May clinic and the owner decided to surrender Twizzler so he could get vet care. He went to the vet and had a leg wound treated and got an e-collar which earned him the name of "cone-head" by Jodi and Barbara. He moved into the cat house with Andy while here--a wonderful guy who will be missed. BTW, Twizzler loves black twizzlers and that's how he got the name. He is enroute to All Dog Rescue.

We want to give a great big hug and thank you to rescues and transporters who make this all possible. We think this group of dogs was one of the BEST. We could open all the kennel doors and they would all get along!! Even with Grandpa dog.

Sincerely, Karen and RLRR
