Girl/Noelle is adopted!

Wonderful news from Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue! The beautiful Girl, now known as Noelle, and two other gorgeous little horses, Sophia and Cinnamon, have been adopted and will be heading for their new home in Colorado at the end of this month.

According to Triple H: "Dry lot ready and lots of luvin' waiting!"

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue would like to express their gratitude again to Triple H for taking in Girl/Noelle this winter when she was injured and to Deb Fjetland and her husband for helping to make the arrangements and for their help with the transport.

Look at how proudly she stands! I hope the new family sends photos of the three beauties in their new home!!

Girl/Noelle will bid farewell to some friends at Triple H, but we wish her all the best!

Christmas gift for Girl

Girl, a small black miniature horse, has become a friend of Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue over the past three years. We have been able to get her treats, hay, farrier work courtesy of Terry Luntz, vet care from Dr. Vicki of ACT V Rescue and Rehabilitation, and a temporary shelter built by Mike and Lauren. We also thank our contributors who help provide funds to help Girl.

Early in December, Girl was allegedly attacked by some dogs in the area chewing on her tail and rear end. Girl’s owner was concerned and contacted RLRR. We were able to get antibiotics, feed, and watering tools to her. In spite of the care she got, Girl needed more. Her owner, Marvin gave Girl up so that she would be able to see a vet and be in a heated stable to recuperate.

Alison Smith of Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue and Deb & Bob Fjetland of "Full Moon Rising North Dakota Badlands Horse" went into action. Girl was rescued on December 22, 2014, just in time for Christmas!

UPDATE FROM DEB:

When Bob and I first learned of "Girl" and the situation that she was in, we both knew that we were going to be helping one way or another. Bob had told me "that he will do whatever is needed" and with that, he was signed up! Karen kept us posted and when it was agreed that "Girl" was to be surrendered, we set a plan in motion that included numerous others. I am certain that it was supposed to happen exactly like it did because her final destination of Triple H Miniature Horse Rescue in western North Dakota had a another transport coming through Fargo at the right time. 

Bob and I took off early the morning of December 22nd for Red Lake, with our horse trailer loaded with lots of straw bedding, good hay and water for this deserving pony. We met Karen and with the help of the owner got Girl loaded up. After saying good-bye to Karen, we took off for Fargo where Girl would be transferred to the other trailer that was going onto Mandan, North Dakota. In rescue there is a term used often for the animals that are starting a new life....it is their "freedom ride".

Knowing what Girl had endured from the dog attack nearly 3 weeks prior to being rescued we were so proud to give her the "freedom ride" she deserved. The transfer was made in Fargo and off she was to getting the help and attention that was waiting for her. Girl, who is now called "Noelle" because of being helped so close to Christmas, is on the mend and even making friends with other miniature horses!

UPDATE:
Girl is being treated for parasites and is on antibiotics for a period of time and is reportedly doing well. In talking with Marvin the other day, he said he misses Girl and wishes the best for her!

Special thanks to Bob and Deb who spent at least 18 hours on the road at their own expense -- a great commitment to Girl.

ACT V revisits RLRR

On September 29th, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue had the privilege of having ACT V revisit the shelter and Red Lake Reservation.

Dr. Vickie accompanied by two other founding members, Alisa and Carolyn were our guests. This hardworking group brought canned and dry food and other supplies to the shelter.

Dr. Vickie did examination and treatment of all the shelter animals including the ones who needed most help like Dakota, a golden mix with a leg injury and porcupine quills embedded in that leg.

She also updated all the vaccinations and made recommendations for medications for those who were healing from mange and other ailments.

On the 29th, we took a trip to Little Rock, Red Lake and Redby to make home visits to provide treatment and food to animals.

We visited Girl the horse and delivered a new mineral block and some special horsefeed which she loved. There we saw Oscar, a dachshund with a sore back. Marvin was very happy for the help and treats we gave his animals.

We went on to Redby to visit Terry and her family. There we saw several cats and dogs that needed vaccinations and delivered food.

Farther up the road we visited Allan and his 3 dogs. Through the years RLRR has worked with Allan and gotten his 3 dogs neutered and spayed; gotten all mange healed; and worked on watering and feeding to make sure the dogs continue to be healthy. Allan and his dogs are very appreciative and enjoy our visits. The dogs were all boosted on their vaccinations.

In the village, we made a visit to Trudy and her family and talked about winter shelters for her dogs. Her son made the request and we will follow up on providing straw for his dogs this winter. The dogs are both neutered through the MN SNAP Program

We went on to visit Mr. Red and the mama of the litter of 4. I had trouble getting the mama in a crate in order to take her to the vet to get spayed. Well to Dr. Vickie it was no challenge. The mama dog was loaded in a crate and was taken to the Gonvick vet the following day and was spayed. We are happy that this dog will have no more unwanted litters! The owner Lulu was very happy with us.

Dr. Vickie, Carolyn and Alisa made many friends in the community and at the shelter. We were sad to see them go when they left on Monday the 30th but were very happy and thankful for all the help they gave to the Red Lake community and animals.

Girl and the farrier

Back in January, Karen, Mike & Lauren visited Marvin and his pony Girl. A shelter was built and hay brought in for her, but an expert was needed to deal with her overgrown hooves. See that post here.

Another visit was made to Marvin and Girl on July 23rd. Girl was in great condition- her coat nice and shiny and her mane was free of the burdock she had at the winter visit.

Deb helped us find a farrier to take care of Girl's feet. Her hooves were overgrown and curling. Tim Kunz came from Bemidji and clipped and filed Girl's hooves. Girl was not a happy camper while Tim was working on her feet. It took all of Marvin's strength to hold her while each hoof was neatly clipped.

Marvin's two dogs waited around patiently and would snatch up hoof fragments - yum yum.

When he was all done, we asked how much we owed him, and he said "Nothing". We were very surprised and happy that there are so many good people out there willing to help animals. So Girl got a complimentary clip. Tim told us that we should have it done 4 times a year to keep her feet healthy.

It was clear that Girl loves Marvin very much as she follows him around where ever he goes. We are so happy to help Marvin as it is also apparent that he also cares so much for Girl!

A Pony named Girl

With the drought in northern Minnesota, getting hay for even a single horse is not that easy.

Marvin and his horse, Girl, live on with west side of Red Lake known as Little Rock. As winter approached, there was no place to get Girl hay. Right before Christmas, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue made sure Girl got a large bale of good hay.

Marvin also agreed to let us visit Girl and build her a shelter for the winter.

Mike, Lauren and Karen went to meet Girl on January 3rd. They brought supplies to make a temporary shelter, as well as rubber bowls, horse feed, a mineral block, wormer, harness, and grooming tools. Her mane was quite matted with burdock which grows on the property there and will be worked on.

It was a great pleasure to meet this little lady. She was interested in our project, as well as loved the horsefeed, and the oats that Marvin brought for her. She took great interest in the mineral block. Mike and Lauren built the horse shelter while being entertained by Girl.

One of the concerns that Marvin has in that Girl's feet need work. He would like to know if we could get her a ferrier to help her. While there Marvin tried to chip out the ice in her feet.

A special thank you to Mike and Lauren, Dr. Vicky, and Sandy for providing the supplies needed to make Girls' winter more comfortable.

We promised to continue to provide hay for Girl for the winter and help her with her feet. We are happy we made new friends!

Noelle & Missy: So happy together

Here's an update I got from two kittens who were adopted out together.
They got to go to home with 4 children, who will love and adore them!
