Mandi the Mediator

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:
It has been about 10 months since Mandi (fka June) came to live with us, and what a great addition to the family she has been. She is the sweetest kitty I have ever known, so demure & gentle and pristine.

MANDI MEETS A SNOWMANShe loves Jessie, the older cat, and likes to climb up and cuddle with her. She is so careful not to disturb Jessie while she is sleeping. I think Mandi has had a great deal to do with how well Jessie is doing since the loss of her sister in January of last year, and she is a great mediator between Jessie and Aimee, the younger kitten.

JESSIE & AIMEEWhen we got Mandi, she was about 8 months old and Aimee was about 5 months old. Aimee has more energy than any cat I have ever seen and she makes us laugh every day, but Jessie didn't much care for her energy or enthusiasm, and it had come to where Jessie would hardly get off the couch to eat because Aimee liked to wrestle so much and had no one else to direct her energy at.

THE WHOLE FAMILYAimee and Mandi are best friends and tear through the house daily chasing each other (playfully, and sometimes Mandi starts it :) and playing with the soft sparkle balls (those are the favorite toy). My family room looks like a daycare with all the toys and cubes and tubes and the kitty tree.

MANDI UNDER THE TREEMandi continues to grow and become less timid and more loving and friendly. Being held is not her favorite thing but she is getting used to it and finding out that good things happen when she gets held (treats). She does like to cuddle up with us on the back of the couch and in bed.

I just thought you might be interested to hear how well she is doing and how much she is loved after these 10 months.

It was quite a family with surrogate mom cat I named January and the sibling kittens, sisters, April, May, June, July and brother August, plus Sparkle a kitten who came in alone and joined the family. ADOPTER UPDATE:
Mandy and Jessie had been cuddling at night, and Mandy and Aimee play during the day. It seems to be working excellent :)
June's two petite sisters, May & July, with the same coloring, but short hair, might still be waiting for homes at Feline Rescue shelter!

Middle child, mediator.

Very recently, I adopted out one of my foster kittens from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. The adopting couple had had a pair of cats that were 14 and one passed away. The remaining cat was lonely, so they adopted a kitten thinking that a kitten would adjust most easily.

Well, kitten Aimee adjusted just fine, but her kitten energy was driving poor senior Jessie to distraction. They decided an intermediate cat was needed (BTW this is why we recommend adopting kittens in pairs). They fell in love with beautiful June with her long fur in the colors of autumn and her docile, if slightly haughty, attitude.

FIRST UPDATE:
I just thought I'd send you an update on June. We are going to call her "Mandy". I like name and think it fits her well.

Friday night and most of Saturday, she hid under the Lazy Boy chair in the office. We have set that up as her room for now with everything she needs and lots of blankets, pillows, kitty bed, etc.

Saturday night when we got home, we heard a loud Meow greeting us from her room so we went in and sat down. She came out to join us, and after several mintues, came up close enough to pet. We stayed in there with her for about 2 hours and she was rubbing up against us and we could pet her and rub her tummy and scratch her head.

She has been eating a bit and doing well. Today we were able to spend more time and she even lay down up against my leg and I was scratching her heard, rubbing her and she was purring and seemed very happy. She almost fell asleep.

She has seen the older kitty from a distance and met the little one from under the door. I was able to get some pictures today :) I think she is doing very well and I think this will work out great. She is a beautiful and sweet little girl.

SECOND UPDATE:
Mandy is doing really well. She and Aimee spend alot of time together playing and yesterday I saw Mandy go in the "crinkle tunnel" we have. Aimee loves it. It flashes red lights when they run through it and it has a hole on the side she loves to dive in. Yesterday I saw Mandy running through it a poking her head out the side. It was very cute :) Latest word is that Mandy is a successful mediator. She leaves Jessie the senior cat alone, and plays with Aimee to burn off that kitten energy. Way to go!

I guess June was used to being the middle child with siblings April, May and July, August ;-)

Cozy kittens

Darling orange tabby August has been adopted, but his four equally wonderful sisters are still waiting for their forever homes.

APRILApril is the biggest love bug -- she want to cuddle all the time. She is a medium hair, dilute torbie -- mostly silver tabby with cream highlights. Her special buddy is June.

JUNEJune has the beautiful look of a Maine Coon cat with her medium length dark torbie fur with touches of soft orange. She wrestles with May & July, but cuddles with April.

JULYJuly is one of the twins with short torbie fur with black and orange and tabby stripes. She has more orange on her face and is more outgoing than May.

MAY & JULYMay, the other torbie twin, is the shyest of the group. She is almost always with her sister July. They would make an especially good pair.

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER OF BROTHER AUGUST:
Ryan (August's new name) is doing really well.

He purrs pretty much constantly (especially at night, when he's sleeping on the fleece blanket) and gets along well with our dog and cat.

Attached are a few pictures of Ryan and Cali enjoying a fire.

Happy ending for the parvo pup, Willow

Willow is a beagle that was rescued and brought to the shelter. She had "full blown" parvo on arrival. I got her medical help, sub-cu feeding, and had her in isolation in the upyard. Well- the little darling survived and went to All Dog Rescue for foster care!!

Hi Karen,

I am fostering Willow who I renamed June, she is everything you said she was!

She is such a lover and so happy to be alive, its hard to imagine a week ago she was so sick! June hasn't had any accidents and was a perfect girl sleeping on the floor of my bedroom last night.

Thanks for saving this sweet girl, I will let you know how she continues to progress.

Yes, she is a doll. I tried to sleep with her one night, and she loved me so much she always wanted to lick my face. I agree- she was near death on arrival, and when she got better---boy did she appreciate life!!!

Hi Karen,

I just wanted to give you another update on June... it was a very close call as I fell in love with her within an hour! What an awesome dog. I brought her to my parent's house on Tuesday evening for a BBQ with a bunch of friends from their church.

June was quite the social butterfly greeting everyone and stopping for belly rubs! She quickly won over the heart of a 6 year old girl whose lap she sat on for 30 minutes, they weren't looking for a dog, but I was instructed to bring the dog over to their house after the kids went to bed to meet the mom. June quickly snuggled up on the sofa to the mom and it was a done deal!

She found a great home with 3 school age girls to call her own, the oldest girl is 13and in 4H and is excited about doing some dog training with her! I am just ecstatic for her to find this home and the best part is... I get to dog sit so I will get to see her a lot. She goes home Sunday and I don't think I could part with her if I didn't know she found a perfect home!

Thank you for saving yet another life and making some cute kids very happy!

MAE & JUNEMae and June are two pups found and brought to the clinic. Malnourished. Thankfully, they were spayed at the clinic and went out to Act V so they never even had to come to the shelter.
