Jambi (now Fritz) in rehab

Jambi came to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue starved to just 3-4 lbs and with a crippling bone infection in his front leg. Act V took him in and managed to get the leg to heal without an amputation and then he was adopted by Lauren's mom. See his earlier blog post here.

Now known as Fritz, he is getting additional rehabilitation with water therapy at the U of MN. I'm not sure if he likes it, but I'm sure it is good for him and he gets extra love afterwards :-)

Better late than never

On Sunday, March 13, Barbie once again came to the aid of Red Lake Rosie's Rescue driving all the way to Bemidji to meet Karen and volunteer Geri with a load of animals enroute to other rescues and shelters.

CARLISLEWe arrived about 1/2 hour early, (or so we thought) and marveled that Barbie had already unloaded all the food and supplies from her van.

GIFTSWe got busy unloading animals and getting them loaded in Barbie's van. She never mentioned anything about us being late.

GERIWell- we had forgotten to turn our clocks to daylight savings time, and we were operating on the "old time" for 3 days before we finally discovered it, so we called Barbie and apologized and she just laughed. What a great lady!

BARBThank you Barbie for always being there for the Red Lake animals when they need a ride.

RODNEYRodney, the rott mix was brought to the shelter by the police from the Halfway House in Redby. He was a stray and the management wanted him removed with his brother Ralph. Well- Rodney hit paydirt and ended up in a foster-to-adopt home with MARS Bully Breed Division. He was a bit stubborn about getting in a crate, and had never ridden in a car before, so that was our only challenge.

CARLISLE MAKING FRIENDSCarlisle was rescued from a house in the projects. The tenants had moved out and left Carlisle and a little tan dog behind. We have not been successful (yet) in catching the small dog. He left for All Dog Rescue.

CHARISSECharisse was rescued by Nancy and Carolyn and went to Tricounty.

JAMBIJambi was surrendered because he developed rickets. He was transferred to Dr. Vickie of Act V.

PEEWEE & PATTIPatti and Pee Wee are two little labbies who were spayed. Pee Wee, the smaller of the two broke out with parvo and was at the vet in Gonvick and made a speedy recovery! They also went to Tricounty.

Jambi has a new name and a new life

AN UPDATE FROM THE DOG FORMERLY KNOWN AS JAMBI:
I’m Fritz, Fritzy, Mr. Fritz, Fritzel-Schnitzel – you can call me any of those names, like my new mom does.

JAMBI/FRITZ BEFOREI had a rough life before Red Lake Rosie's Rescue saved me. I was starved to half of my normal body weight and had a skin infection. But my worst condition was a severe and untreated bone infection in my shoulder that almost cost me my leg.

I was so sick and absolutely TERRIFIED when I came to RLRR. RLRR put me in touch with my Guardian Angel, Dr. Vicki at Act V. Dr. Vicki helped me get over my infections and saved me from having to have my leg amputated! She and her family were SO nice to me.

FRITZ AND MOMThen, my new mom, Leslie, came into my life and she has helped me in many ways, too. The best part about my forever home is that I have a sister from RLRR – how cool is that! We adore each other and bonded immediately. We cuddle in the sun together, share treats, and run and play all day long.

FRITZ PROTESTING WITH MIKELeslie realized I needed to be socialized with other dogs and humans, so she takes us on walks around the neighborhood and to the local dog park. One or two days a week, we get to go to Doggy Day Care at a great place up the street, which I get all excited about. Everyone tells Leslie they see growth and positive changes in me every time they see me.

I’m not bitter about my past and am grateful for the loving care I received from RLRR and Act V, for I wouldn’t be here otherwise. Keep up your excellent work!

Poor Petie

Petie was the sole surviving pup born to a small dog. Just ten days old, he had a cyst on his neck the size of golf ball and his eye was ruptured. He was part of the January 5, 2010 transport and he went toAct V Rescue and Rehabilitation in Bloomington where he is in the great care of Dr. Vicki.

PETIEUPDATE FROM ACT V:
Little Pete is doing fine.

I think what ever bit him and made the abscess also got him in the left eye and that's why it ruptured.

He's being medicated every 6 hours and has a recheck appt tomorrow. I'm not used to getting up at 2 a.m. to feed puppies or babies for that matter. He's a very good eater.

Little Ina is doing well. She gets rechecked tomorrow too. Zorro (broken front leg shep) went to his new home yesterday. Jambi, the once-starving min-pin, is thriving in his new home.

All is good.

Dogs needing placement ASAP

I have heard from DeeDee and Karen that the rescue is overwhelmed with puppies and dogs again. The clinic is the end of this week, so we have to be prepared for additional surrenders.

CONNIE AND PUPSKaren is out of kennel space and had to release 7 or 8 dogs in order to make room for the puppies. Those dogs will, hopefully, stay nearby because they have access to food, but the situation is not good.

CONNIE STARVINGShe has about 20 puppies and 25-30 young adults, as well. A good number may require treatment for mange and starvation.

JAZZ AND PUP JAKEJAZZ AND PUP JAKEHere is Jaz and her pup Jake that just came in to RLRR. They are small to medium sized dogs. They are wonderful dogs and will be vetted at the clinic, if anyone can rehome them.

MASONLittle Mason also needs a foster home. He's male, probably around a year old.

JAMBIKaren also took in a Min Pin she calls Jambi who is in very bad shape. Jambi only weighs 3-4 lbs and has been horribly starved. According to the owner Jambi was mauled by dogs in July and his front left leg is atrophied and scarred. He is also suffering malnutrition. He is scared, and takes a while to warm up. He hides under his blanket.
JAMBIGood news for Jambi, Act V has agreed to take him.
