Pearl's puppies' birthday party!

It was just over a year ago that Red Lake Rosie's Rescue transported Pearl and her 8 puppies to ARRVS.

One of the adopters that now owns two of the puppies organized a Birthday "Pawday" at a local dog park!

All 8 puppies showed up and it was so much fun! They played for over 4 hours and there was food for their people and toys and treats for the dogs!

Blessings: Pearl, Winter, Aiden

NOTE FROM ADOPTERS:
January 1, 2015
As we all begin to take our first steps into the New Year I thought I would recount my blessings thus far, one final time. These thoughts turn to the wonderful efforts of Karen, RLRR and the many volunteers.

To all who have known and loved animals, there is possibly nothing more troubling than seeing an animal abused, neglected or suffering from an injury, cold or hunger. Sadly, Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue knows all too well these conditions and more. I am forever amazed by Red Lake Rosie’s, Karen Good and the work that Karen has accomplished, and is accomplishing each day all on behalf of those who have no voice in their own struggles. I have and will continue to support Karen in her efforts to end the misery of countless helpless and truly hopeless animals.

I have adopted 3 Red Lake Dogs. I currently share my life with two. The two I have now, Aiden and Winter however would never have been a part of my life were it not for the first, Pearl.

It is fair to say that my entire involvement with Red Lake Rosie’s is the result of one animal, Pearl. Pearl was a dog that would quite honestly change my life forever. As you are able to see in her before and after photographs Pearl was finally able to share the beauty she had always had on the inside with those who saw her from the outside. Never would this have been possible were it not for Karen Good and Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue.

The second set of photographs share the story of “Winter” as he was brought to the clinic and thankfully given the chance to become the dog he is today.

Aiden and pup

Our third dog, Aiden, is an equally beautiful little shepherd who was rescued in the month of February, with a litter of pups, all frozen, save one, “Solo”. Solo ultimately found a home with a police officer and his family.

While the stories of my three are not terribly unique, it clearly demonstrates what is possible. Karen inspires others; she is a beacon of hope, a motivator to all who witness her work and demonstrates that one person is able to make a difference, one dog at a time and also, what is possible for dogs like Pearl, Winter and Aiden

Warm thoughts for 2015,
C&J

NOTE FROM KAREN:
It takes a village to rescue these animals and thank you to our local Board, Polly, Jo, Carol and our metro support team, all the rescues that take animals, financial supporters, transporters, and clinic providers.

Thanks to all for RLRR!

Pearl & pups finding homes

PEARL NURSING IN SHIFTS
Pearl was a frightened, skinny, homeless dog, just about nine months old herself, when she and her eight newborn pups were rescued by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in a late March blizzard. See original post HERE. The family moved on to ARVSS in early April.

Pearl's pups are six weeks old

LITTLE PIGGIES AT THE TROUGH
Just a over a month ago, we introduced you to Pearl and her newborn pups when she arrived at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Time for an update from foster care at ARVSS in Wisconsin:
PEARL
PEARL'S PUPS SIX WEEKS OLD
Pearl is doing great! She has been introduced to all our dogs/fosters and cats except for one and did great.
We started to ween the puppies this weekend with two feedings of diluted puppy canned food and they did great! We think the brown ones might keep their blue eyes :)

NAPTIME
We will name the puppies after gems and precious stones since mama's name is Pearl.

Pearl and pups

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue got a call on Saturday afternoon, March 29th, that a female dog had crawled in their doghouse and had a bunch of newborn puppies.
Dan answered the call and brought the mama and her 8 puppies to the RLRR shelter where they are sheltered and doing very well. They are one week old and we think they were born on March 24th according to the owner of the dog house.
We named the very young mama dog Pearl. She is about 9 months old herself and this is no doubt her first (and last) litter. Pearl is not real trusting of other animals but is friendly to people and so happy to get a special treat of canned and kibble mixed. On arrival she was very thin and had very little milk. We notice her milk production is up and she is eating and drinking well now.
With the spring blizzard going on, we are not sure Pearl and her family would have survived but are happy that she is here. We are grateful to be able to make her and her family healthy and safe.

Thank you for supporting Red Lake dogs and cats.

Sincerely Karen RLRR

Mamma Mia

Eleven months ago I first posted about Jewels (formerly Pearl, now Mia) on this blog.
She came into Red Lake Rosie's Rescue just days before Christmas, heavy with puppies, and barely made it to her foster home for All Dog Rescue before giving birth. She raised nine beautiful puppies that all found good homes and she found a wonderful home herself.
I haven't met this dog, but she always seems to have a serene happy expression in her photos. She certainly looks comfortable and relaxed!! You can search the blog to see several other posts about her and her pups and her new family.

Rest in peace, Pearl

Pearl was one of the greatest dogs we ever had. She lived on her own west of Red Lake I am told for a couple of years raising her many litters, searching for food and had been shot more than once.

When she finally got to the shelter she had some pretty severe wounds and 4 puppies about 12 - 14 weeks old. Thankfully, she got to go to Animal Ark, and was adopted to a wonderful family.

Her 4 puppies also were adopted.

I am sad to hear of her passing, but happy she did not die out there with a litter of puppies from an infected gunshot wound. Thank you all who helped her- Polly, Nokomis, Animal Ark, and finally the family who adopted this great girl.

Sincerely, Karen and RLRR

FROM THE ANIMAL ARK BLOG:
We had a special visit today, which was bitter sweet. I don't know if everyone remembers our dogs, but Pearl was one of our dogs who easily made her way into our hearts - and one I will never forget!

She was one of our Red Lake girls that was rescued off the streets & needed treatment for a gun shot wound - which was her presenting "medical condition". Karen up in Red Lake nursed her through that and then asked us to take her at Animal Ark. She healed from her wound nicely, but then we received the bad news that not only was she heartworm positive, but she also tested positive for lymes disease and anaplasmosis. It just didn't seem like she could catch a break in life.

Heartworm treatment is a long, drawn out and pretty painful treatment & it is always very difficult for us to watch our dogs sit in the shelter for two months as they go through it. However, just then, Pearl caught a break . . . and a pretty big break in her streak of luck!! Two of the kindest, dog-loving folks walked through our doors and actually fostered her through her treatments & let her recover in their home. Well, Pearl never came back from foster care, unless it was to visit us & show us how she had transformed into the beautiful dog on the outside, who we already knew was on the inside.

Pearl was an adorable yet somewhat shy dog, so of course one of my favorites. She had a rough start to life and never really knew that she didn't have it good . . . but she found out in a hurry how to live the life of luxury.

Well, the reason I'm sharing all of this with you is because we had our last visit with Pearl at our annual Animal Walk. Pearl recently passed away with cancer.

We're glad she had a great life for her last years, so thank you to her family & we send you our sympathies!! Your story inspires us to keep going with the work we do!

Thank You AHS for the Successful April Clinic

REPORT FROM CRYSTAL:
The AHS clinic at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was held April 22-24. Because of job commitments I didn't get up to the area until Tuesday evening. Karen and DeeDee had everything set up and ready to go, so when Wednesday morning came around "Go" was exactly what we did.
The parking lot was filled by 7:30 and we had the "Full for Today" sign posted by 8:30. The pace was fast and steady. Dr. Kim and her dedicated staff worked tirelessly all three days spaying/neutering and vaccinating the many gentle creatures that came through the doors of the warehouse. By the end of the clinic they had altered 106 animals and had done two emergency surgeries.
Only the animals registered to be altered, or previously altered animals, were given vaccinations. This opened a dialogue with some people who had come for "vaccinations only". It gave us a chance to talk about the benefits of spaying and neutering and the positive long term effects clinics have for the homeless starving animals on the reservation.
We succeeded in changing a few minds and, as always, hoped that we planted a few seeds. A delicate little white dog named Pearl and her companion (Mr. Personality) named Midnight, came in on the first day. They were such people dogs that they were rarely in their kennels, but rather followed us around as we went from chore to chore.
Midnight was particularly fond of Wanda (AHS volunteer) and kept her company for hours while she diligently sterilized the surgical instruments. I welcomed every free moment when I could pick up Pearl and feel that sweet little face tuck under my chin.
MIRANDA & PEARLWe thought that maybe they were going to be left when the clinic came to an end, and thought of how incredibly easy it would be to rehome them, but on Friday their owner came back. They were just two of the 100+ animals that went through the clinic doors.
We registered, weighed, held, fed, walked, cleaned, de-ticked, comforted, and carried, and in return they touched our souls. Tons of food, collars, treats, and leashes were free for the taking. We are very fortunate to have generous donations to share with the people.
Which brings me to Claudia's generous donation of delicious meals that kept us going strong. If you have experienced Claudia's meals you know what I am talking about, and if you haven't I would suggest that you add that to the plus side of "Reasons to go work at a Red Lake Clinic".

Pearl (aka Elsa)

Dear Friends: It is always a blessing to see the transformation of an animal we have helped. It makes it so worthwhile to have the good, happy ending stories like the one about Pearl, now known as Elsa.

Pearl was rescued by Polly and Nokomis, who brought her to the shelter last summer with a litter of 4 puppies. She was in very poor shape. The story was that she had been homeless in the Little Rock area for a couple of years and had been raising litters and trying to feed herself. Well in the process she had been shot more than once in the abdomen with a shotgun.

When she came, she really was not trusting humans. She was vetted and found out she was heartworm positive, had lymes, anaplasmosis and the RAVS vet would NOT spay her at the time of the August clinic due to her poor condition.

Thankfully she went to Animal Ark and got treated for heartworm and lymes, anaplasmosis and was spayed. She has been adopted to a loving home,. And just look at her before and after picture!! Amazing what we are seeing. Thank you all so much for helping play a part in rescuing Pearl and others like her!! Karen Good
