Blessings: Pearl, Winter, Aiden

January 1, 2015

As we all begin to take our first steps into the New Year I thought I would recount my blessings thus far, one final time. These thoughts turn to the wonderful efforts of Karen, RLRR and the many volunteers.

To all who have known and loved animals, there is possibly nothing more troubling than seeing an animal abused, neglected or suffering from an injury, cold or hunger. Sadly, Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue knows all too well these conditions and more. I am forever amazed by Red Lake Rosie’s, Karen Good and the work that Karen has accomplished, and is accomplishing each day all on behalf of those who have no voice in their own struggles. I have and will continue to support Karen in her efforts to end the misery of countless helpless and truly hopeless animals.

I have adopted 3 Red Lake Dogs. I currently share my life with two. The two I have now, Aiden and Winter however would never have been a part of my life were it not for the first, Pearl.

It is fair to say that my entire involvement with Red Lake Rosie’s is the result of one animal, Pearl. Pearl was a dog that would quite honestly change my life forever. As you are able to see in her before and after photographs Pearl was finally able to share the beauty she had always had on the inside with those who saw her from the outside. Never would this have been possible were it not for Karen Good and Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue.

The second set of photographs share the story of “Winter” as he was brought to the clinic and thankfully given the chance to become the dog he is today.

Our third dog, Aiden, is an equally beautiful little shepherd who was rescued in the month of February, with a litter of pups, all frozen, save one, “Solo”. Solo ultimately found a home with a police officer and his family.

While the stories of my three are not terribly unique, it clearly demonstrates what is possible. Karen inspires others; she is a beacon of hope, a motivator to all who witness her work and demonstrates that one person is able to make a difference, one dog at a time and also, what is possible for dogs like Pearl, Winter and Aiden

2014 Pet Expo – A HOWLING SUCCESS!

Red Lake Rosie's seventh year at the Pet Expo was very successful despite the icy streets. We raised $1,448 in sales and $772 in donations for a whopping total of $2,220 which is 44% more than last year! Thank you to everyone who helped make caring for more needy animals possible.

It’s always fun promoting Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue and selling RLRR t-shirts and unique handcrafted items made by our volunteers.

Sweet and beautiful Faith is in foster care and will soon be available for adoption. Several months ago, she was found foraging for food around dumpsters and approached anyone that would hopefully care for her. She was malnourished, dehydrated and loaded with fleas. That’s when Red Lake Rosie’s stepped to help this special needs girl. Read more about her story in previous blog posts 8/21/2013 and 9/18/2013.

This is the first year that people could bring their companion animals. The hand washable wool dog hoodies put smiles on many faces and were a sellout.

It takes many dedicated volunteers to help with rescue, medical care, transport, fostering, adoptions, fundraising, education, and donations so that cats and dogs are ultimately placed in forever loving homes. Thanks to every person for helping Karen Good care for more animals. Any help is so appreciated.

Many people stopped by the booth and shared their stories about their adopted Red Lake cats and dogs. It is so inspiring to hear about people who have opened their hearts to those who were abandoned, neglected and abused. Their once broken spirits and bodies are now filled with love.

Thanks to all our dedicated and talented volunteers who worked the booth, brought their sweet Red Lake ambassador dogs, and donated their high quality handcrafted items.

Winter needs at Red Lake Rosie's Rescue

With winter approaching we are well prepared with the new straw, but are in need of tarps and zip ties to insulate the 22 outdoor dog kennels. The tarps are necessary to keep the snow and cold winds out and help the animals stay warm.
KENNELS WITH TARPS IN FALLWe need all sizes of poly tarps -- 8 x 8, 8 x 10, 10 x 12 -- any sizes as we cut them to fit.

We apply the tarps with the medium and large size poly zip ties which are also spendy.

KENNELS WITH TARPS IN WINTERWe have a team coming October 22-24 and we could get some of these done. Winter typically arrives here the first week of November and we would like to be prepared.

We thank anyone who has a tarp or a package of zip ties to donate for the animals.

OLD COLLAPSED HAYSHED IS GONEThe old collapsed shed has been burned down and replaced with a new one!!
I am happy to report that the straw shed was completed today--what an improvement!!

NEW STRAWSHED AND STORAGE SHED300 bales of fresh dry straw is scheduled for delivery on Saturday. It will be kept nice and dry from the elements.

Winter is coming

Marilou at Pet Haven was kind enough to make a video in support of the Red Lake Rosie's Rescue winter bedding drive.



RLRR needs donations to purchase oat straw and cedar wood chips to keep the animals warm in their outdoor kennels. About 300 bales of straw @ $2.00 per bale and 20 bales of cedar wood chips @ $5.29/ bale are needed.

Winter will be coming soon in the far north of Minnesota, so we need to prepare now before the snow comes.
