Teddy starts over, too

Teddy, a long haired rust colored shep mix came in with Tessa, his sister on March 24th to the Red Lake Rosie’s Shelter as surrenders. Teddy had more confidence than Tessa did and was quite a friendly boy.

 

Teddy would not have had a good life as the owner said he and Tessa had strayed in and she fed them for a while but did not want them anymore. Teddy was accepted by All Dog Rescue and went on to get neutered and now we hear he has been adopted too!

What a happy new beginning for both Teddy and Tessa who would otherwise have no future!

Carol saves Teddy

Carol has been part of RLRR for many years, and in her travels in Indian Country runs into animals that need her help. This is Carol's latest new friend:

TEDDY

NOTE FROM CAROL:

I want you to meet Teddy, a sweet german shepherd mix who found me at the Cass River Community Center on Saturday. He has demodex mange, which will require 6 weeks of daily medicine to treat. I found out from the teens he was with that no-one really owns him, and it was okay for me to take him. He happily left with me and stayed overnight in my outside kennel, with only a few low howls for complaints.

Sunday morning I drove him out to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue where Teddy will get the medical help he needs to move on and get adopted.

Teddy has a lovely temperament, and wanted to be my lap dog in the car on Sunday morning. I had to explain to this big lug that he could only have his paws and big old head in my lap if we wanted to stay on the road. I am so glad he found me, as his future without treatment would have been short and miserable.

Thank you to Red Lake Rosie's and Karen for being there to take him! Thank you to the supporters who give us the resources to help animals like Teddy who otherwise would have no future.

Foxy finds his smile

A Red Lake policeman picked up a little red fluffy dog because he had strayed into a yard in Redby and the people wanted him removed. Polly took him in and Dan brought him to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue where we called him Foxy. Within one week he was transferred to AHS and now has found a great home!

MARILOU EXPLAINS:
We ran into Foxy (now Tyrion/Teddy) at AHS when we were meeting the rescues for the transport today. Foxy is here with his new dad, Jeff, who is the Director of Communications at AHS. Jeff had just adopted him and was on his way home. Here is what he just sent to me:

His new name is Tyrion but we're also calling him Teddy. So who knows what will stick! :)

He truly is a sweet, affectionate boy who is very well-behaved...More than you could expect one day one. He's a real snuggler and very laid back. Seems pretty well house-trained. And I think happy to have a loving family. Thanks for bringing him to us!

 We miss our Molly that we lost in July after 16 years (she's the memorial story in AHS Animal Tracks) but it felt time for a new dog.

TLC pups

We have already had a quick update from TLC on the litter of six:

Kids are doing good; they go in this afternoon for their shots. Boy can they sing when they want to. For the most part they do sleep thru the night until about 4:30 or 5:00 then they start to cry, but then either they go back to sleep or I do. LOL

I’m proud to be donating 10% of all Pet Session fees in March to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue.

The Red Lake Indian Reservation is located in north central Minnesota in portions of Clearwater and Beltrami Counties. The Red Lake Tribe has land holdings of 837,736 acres which is about the size of the State of Rhode Island.

Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue, Inc. began in 2004 by a group of volunteers on the Red Lake Reservation in northwestern Minnesota who were concerned about domestic animals and their care in their nation.

According to oral tradition the Ojibwe, the Anishinabe had a very special connection to maheengun, or the wolf. Original man walked across the North American continent long ago with maheengun by his side. After their journey together as brothers, they parted their ways. What would happen to the wolf would surely happen to the Anishinabe. The Anishinabe were always to regard the ancestor of the wolf, animoosh or dog as a friend. Red Lake Rosie reminds the Anishinabe to keep their covenant with maheengun.

RLRR works with many rescues and shelters here in the Twin Cities to get the animals healthy and adopted. To date, RLRR has rehomed over 2,000 animals. You can read more about the wonderful work these people are doing, and the dogs and cats they are helping on the RLRR Blog.

Local vets and shelters are holding a spay/neuter clinic in Red Lake from March 11th-13th, and I’m very excited to be going along! I’ll be documenting the clinic, the animals, and the RLRR shelter, and helping out where I can. These clinics are held a few times each year, giving the Red Lake residents’ animals vaccinations and spay/neuters, and hopefully educating people about caring for their pets. I had the pleasure of meeting RLRR dogs, Teddy and Orlando, at the studio last week.

TEDDYThis is Teddy, a happy-go-lucky little wookie.

ORLANDOAnd this BIG handsome boy is Orlando. He was pretty nervous about the studio, but warmed up to me quickly. I definitely felt a connection with him, and with some work on his confidence, I know he’ll make an amazing addition to the right family!

RLRR is always in need of people to transport animals down to the Twin Cities, for people to foster, to adopt, and of course to give tax deductible donations. They are a volunteer organization with many needs for food, blankets, portable pet carriers/crates, wire kennels for temporary shelter, dog houses, straw and cedar chips for bedding, food, medicine, and veterinarian fees.

Winter hasn't slowed the need for transports

The animals keep coming- so we had another transport on Saturday February 6. Karen met Dee in Motley who took 17 dogs & puppies and 3 cats off to their destinations in hope for a "warm" forever home.

PUGSLEY & PATTIPugsley and Patti went to Red Lake Rosie's Foster home.

JACKJack, the rottweiller went to Pet Haven.

TEDDYTeddy, enroute to Second Chance Dogs, is temporarily fostered by RLRR.

TINYTiny - the small puppy went to All Dog foster care.

SHEP PUP2 cats, Raja and Newt went to Feline Rescue.
