More RLRR alumni: Chance and Mariah

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:

"Chance and Mariah came to us from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue via ACT V: Chance in March of 2015 and Mariah in February of 2016. 

Today I watch them sleep this cold afternoon away upon their comfy beds in the sun-filled four-season porch. We are so thankful they were found in those winter months and taken in to be cared for. 

There is not a day that they don't make us laugh and bring joy into our home. Thank you, Red Lake Rosie's and ACT V! These dogs are warm, safe, healthy, comfortable, and oh so loved."

Mariah's long road to recovery

Back in February, Red Lake Rosie's Rescue took in a dog named Mariah that had been attacked and nearly killed by a pack of three dogs. See original post HERE.

After emergency care with RLRR, she was transferred to ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation for further treatment and foster care.

UPDATES FROM ACT V:

Mariah arrived, thanks to Leech Lake Legacy, safely.
And Karen Good, you did an excellent job of keeping her alive.
During her assessment, we learned many new things:

1. She is approximately ten years old.
2. She has newly broken teeth at the gumline (fending off her attackers?)
3. She also has many, old, broken teeth.
4. Her swollen abdomen has severe bruising.
5. Her bite wounds are massive; some were developing an infection.
6. X-ray shows she's carrying around buckshot.
7. Her spine shows evidence of significant arthritis.

Our plan:
She'll stay in the ICU under the care of Affiliated Emergency Veterinary Service.
She had x-rays, ultrasound, IV fluids, extensive blood work and a Fentanyl patch for pain, and a feeding tube because she was not eating.

  

Sad to say, to add to her list of injuries, Mariah has a fracture in the spinous part of her vertebrae (in her upper neck). She is resting well on multiple pain medications, she eats using elevated bowls, and she is not allowed to play. We have an appointment to see Neurology in a week, and she will probably need an MRI. (All at the U of MN.) She is receiving laser treatment, and we will also be consulting with physical rehab.

It's official.
MARIAH IS ADOPTED!
It's been a long journey for this poor dog; but with teamwork, medical specialists, and community support, we changed the ending to her story.

(And maybe send some hugs to her foster family who kissed her goodbye.)

Mariah needs your prayers

Three other dogs attacked Mariah and nearly fatally wounded her. Send all your hearts, hopes, well-wishes and prayers for this dog.

It is too gruesome to show the whole picture (below), but this pup has severe injuries. 

UPDATE FROM KAREN:

Prayers working- Mariah took the first bites of food in a week, and we got a tablespoon of nutrical in her. She is going to ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation tomorrow!

Karen's cats

Karen has had a significant number of cats (and dogs) surrendered to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in advance of the spay/neuter clinic this week.

These animals have been vetted and it will be very helpful to move them from the reservation as soon as possible because more animals will be abandoned at the clinic and there won't be room.

March 8 transport to Park Rapids

A special thank you to Mike, Carolyn, Nancy and Tom for transporting 4 dogs to Headwaters Humane Society in Park Rapids on Sunday, March 8.

TRUXTON

Golden Eagle, Snowball, Truxton and Mariah are all tucked in and waiting for adoption. We heard that Snowball took ill and was sent to the vet. We will keep you updated on her condition.

MARIAH

Thanks to Carolyn, Nancy, and Tom we have developed a relationship with Headwaters and have placed a number of dogs and puppies. All the animals sent there have been adopted.
