Lola, formerly Christa

I was able to get a surrender on Christa and Carley/Cora only because Christa was walking with a limp. The other pups were kept and they were dehydrated and malnourished- very tiny and walking on the road. We are happy that we were able to save the lives of Christa and Cora out of the litter at least. See original blog post.  As you can see Christa, now Lola, has a wonderful life!

UPDATE:
Hello, I wanted to give you an update on Christa - Lola! She has been the most wonderful addition to my home and office! She is growing so fast and boy is she smart! It took the first week to potty train, no accidents since then, she signals when she wants to go out and being food motivated sure helps her to learn more things every day. Trips to the dog park are her favorite and she loves to play with the big dogs! Thanks so much for all of the wonderful work you do.

She escaped from her foster home one day and found her way to a neighbor's house where she spent the night. When her very worried foster Mom finally found her the next day, Gidget had already entranced the family. They adopted her that week.

Lola & Cali

FROM ALL DOG RESCUE:
In June of 2009, Hugh & Maria adopted our lovely Lola, a chow chow mix who had come from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Lola was found with her one surviving puppy, and this sweet girl tested positive for heartworms. Her foster mom Pam diligently nursed Lola through several rounds of heartworm treatment, and was thrilled when she found her new forever home with Hugh & Maria.

Lola quickly learned the ropes in her new home, becoming acclimated to the electric fence and learning to walk nicely on the leash. She loved to cuddle and go for long walks with her new mom and dad. She would sleep curled up at the foot of the bed each night, and wake her dad each morning by licking his face.

Then in December, we got horrible news. Sweet Lola started having trouble breathing; a visit to the vet revealed that some of the heartworms had survived the multiple rounds of treatment Lola had received. When another round of treatment was started, Lola went into cardiac arrest and the vet was unable to revive her.

Sweet Lola spent 5 months in a wonderful home, and her family was absolutely heartbroken by her death. Just before Christmas they contacted us - despite their grief, they wanted to open their hearts and home to another rescue dog, and they had seen Cali on our website. We were so happy when it was love at first sight, and Cali spent her Christmas with Hugh and Maria, learning what it means to be loved and pampered in a forever home. Like Lola, she sleeps in the big bed at night, but unlike Lola who slept down at the food of the bed, Cali likes to snuggle up right between them.

Hugh sent us great updates on both of his girls, along with some of the ways they are alike and different. You can see them on our website here: Lola and Cali. We want to thank Hugh & Maria for giving both of these girls such a wonderful home.

In memory of Noreen/Lola

Hi, Karen & DeeDee;

I'm not sure if anyone has passed along the sad news that Lola (I believe she was Noreen at RLRR) passed away last month. She had been with us for several months undergoing heartworm treatment. She was adopted last June by a family that absolutely adored her; then in December she started having trouble breathing and the vet discovered that some of the heartworms had survived the treatment and had come back. She passed away during a new bout of treatment.

Her dad sent in some photos and a whole bunch of memories of Lola that we posted to our website - I thought you would like to see that even though they had her for only a few months, she was clearly adored and at least got to spend a good part of her life knowing love and happiness.

In happy news - her family adopted another All Dog Rescue dog just before Christmas, so even in their grief this family opened their hearts to another rescue dog.

Meet Lola and Emma!

Both these pups came to Pet Haven from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue ... Bart (who was featured on an earlier post) also came from Red Lake Rosie's. One of the things we have come to realize is that the Red Lake dogs are truly mutts of mutts. We never know what mix of breed they are. Often your guess is as good as our's :) Many of us took stabs at guessing Bart's breed when he arrived, and his new mom ended up getting a DNA test ... well, no surprise, we were all wrong!! :)

So ... to answer your question of what breed are Emma and Lola. Well, we're told they are shepherd mixes. They probably do have some shepherd in them, but the beautiful thing about these Red Lake dogs is that they are mixed with who knows what ... and it's often a pleasant surprise! One thing is for sure though, they are adorable. And in the words of their foster mom: "they both rate 10 on the scale."

Their foster mom goes on to say, "Emma is a toe biter so we have to watch our feet. Both are fearless and explored the entire back yard in the first five minutes. They can really run fast on those short legs."

Both pups have been spayed and have had their second round of shots so are up for adoption.

"Lola 6 pounds, brown/black female. She chases the cats so don't know if a home with cats is a good idea. Lola loves people, gets along great with my grandson and is friendly with our other dogs. She is extremely playful and feisty. Lola loves to play tug of war and chase small stuffed animals. When she is sleepy she enjoys cuddling.

EMMAEmma, 7 pounds, gold female. Emma doesn't like our cats and even bit poor Taz in the face (he is our most docile cat). Emma loves to chase. Whether it be stuffed animals, her sister Lola or us, running around the backyard is a favorite activity. Emma is very playful and friendly. She also gets along great with our other dogs, small children and adults. She loves to be held and cuddled like a baby."

Red Lake dogs at Pet Haven

Two RLRR favorites from the last clinic, sister pups Wanda & Luwanda, are at Pet Haven now with the new names of Lola & Emma. Pet Haven Dog Blog has announced that Lola is the new FACE of PetHaven on Facebook!

La-la-la-la Lola

I'm fostering Noreen, who I'm calling Lola, and want to let you know she is doing very well. She completed a 2 month heartworm treatment through the wonderful Akin Hills Pet Hospital in Farmington and she's healthy, active, and living the life she deserves.

Lola loves her daily walks, running around the yard chasing away squirrels and bunnies (Thank you, Lola!) and she's learning the joy of the dog park. She was initially nervous around larger dogs, but she's starting to understand they are not a threat. Lola is also learning how to cuddle. It took her quite a while, but she will now jump on the couch when you tell her it's o.k. and either curl up beside you or try to sit on your lap. She's way too big to be a lap dog, but she doesn't know that and it's too funny when she does it to try to stop her.

Lola will certainly be adopted soon and her new home will be very fortunate to have such a loving girl. If I could handle 3 permanent dogs, Lola would be my "foster failure"! Check out her Petfinder page.
