Cinder: Loving life as a 3-legged dog!

Cinder(rella) was named by Heather because of the little pink bandage Heather put on this little girl's foot initially.  I lost my camera about that time and do not have pics of her at RLRR. Cinder came in to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue as a surrendered pet in June. Aris, a very nice lady and animal lover, had known this little shepherd since she was a puppy. Aris fed the pup on occasion and noticed that her front leg was damaged.  We believe she had been hit by a car causing nerve damage in her shoulder. As a result, her foot was bent so that the top of it dragged on the ground. Aris asked the owner if she could take her for help, but not until the pup was about 6 months old did the owner finally agree to let her go.  By then, her foot had dragged until the bone was exposed and infected. Thankfully, Laura of Pet Haven took in Cinder and got her the medical help she needed, which included the amputation of the leg. Then, they found her a happy home! Now Cinder is hoping to pay back Pet Haven for their help by acting as the "cover girl" for their upcoming Doggy Dash fundraiser (http://www.pethavenmn.org/events/doggy-dash/). See the poster below. Cinder: Sometimes it takes a village to save one pup

It was the night before our Sunday, June 15th transport. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue received a call came that a little husky puppy named had been attacked by a dog and his eye was hanging out. This is not the kind of call you want to get late on a Saturday night. 

CINDER AFTER SURGERY

First a call went out to Dr. Vickie of ACT V who offered medical care for the injured pup if we could find a rescue to take him.

Then we called Jessica of MUSHR. We got voice mail and I was sure that there would be no answer that night. Much to my surprise, a few minutes passed and there was Jessica on the phone, and the answer was YES- MUSHR would take Cinder.

Next, we had to find a place to overnight this little guy until Monday morning. Jenny went to work and found Jean would do that.

CINDER AT RLRR

The next morning,  the RLRR transport van picked up Cinder who was very hungry and seemed to be immune to his pain. This little gorgeous and brave boy eagerly ate his dog food with a pain medication and antibiotic to start his journey. He was passed off to Nancy and Tom in Bemidji and then on to Jenny of Leech Lake Legacy in Motley.

Cinder was playing with toys later that evening in the care of Jean. The next day Cinder had the surgery to remove his hopelessly damaged eye and now he is doing well.

This was a demonstration of the most effective network to help animals I can imagine. A late night call with an animal in distress was answered in a few minutes providing a remote reservation dog with the rescue, surgery, and aftercare he needs.

July 12 Transport

LAUREN AND MIKE AND RLRR MIKEMike and Lauren came to RLRR shelter once again and spent the weekend working and then took out a large transport on Sunday July 12th. Total 21 dogs and puppies and 3 cats and kittens left, all to foster care except 2 cats to Tricounty Humane Society.

MIKE AND LAURENThese two young people have been so helpful to the Red Lake animals. They have stayed at the shelter several times, and also came to the May clinic as volunteers. It is encouraging to see younger people interested in animal rescue and issues.

CINDERMISTEROn this trip they started painting the outside of the roundhouse. They made it 3/8 around and did a very nice job. They also painted the trim on the addition. Also, improving the grounds as well as spending time with the animals. They gave 5 mange baths to Mister, Jewelz, and the 3 tiny pups Toto, Tanya, and Teneka.

ERICA, ERIN, ELIZABETHDusty came badly matted and hungry. We got him vetted, shaven, and immunized. Isn't he handsome? He is in foster care with Laura.

DUSTY1DUSTY2Little Antonio Tony came to the shelter and had a rubber band around his tail and the tail falling off, so we took him to the vet and had his tail amputated. He was headed to Nancy at Pet Projects.

ANTONIO TONYBubba, the big white dog from the May clinic, and Survivor the kitten were also part of this transport.
