No more cold winters for Chester

Chester, a orange tabby male cat, came  to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue in bad shape.  His foot was half rotting off – possibly caught in a trap?  His ears were rounded indicating he spent the past cold winter outdoors! 

Chester arrived late on Friday night by a kind lady from Brooks, a few miles west of the reservation.   At first Chester was growly at me, and then the next day he turned into a very lovely cat.  He went to the vet on Monday and half of his foot was amputated.  He was also neutered, and vaccinated for rabies and feline distemper.  He was wormed and also tested negative for feline leukemia.  What a relief that now Chester had hope!

Janet of Feline Rescue just happened to call at midweek to let us know of two openings for cats from Red Lake.  When she heard Chester’s story, Janet immediately said “We will take him” with no hesitation. 

Chester was at Red Lake Rosie’s shelter only a week, but he made a big impression. He left his footprint on our hearts.  Chester caught a ride with Leech Lake Legacy and was delivered to Feline Rescue by Heidi, our transport coordinator on Sunday.  We were sad to see him leave but happy for his new life prospects.

UPDATE FROM JANET AT FELINE RESCUE:

Just an update. He got his bandage changed on Monday and will continue to be monitored over the next few days. He is one awesome cat! I fell in love in the first five minutes of knowing him. 

Crimson is now Sora

These were my Red Lake fosters (Crimson, Clover and Chester - Crimson is the one in the front of the puppy pile) from last Oct.

UPDATE FROM NEW HOME:
This is Sora in her first week of nosework. She's all 'business' now. Loves loves LOVES the find the treat game! If she continues to love it, I may try to compete with her. It does wonders for her self-confidence.

Chester at the lake

Chester was rescued by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue from being dumped in the country or shot when his owner was evicted. Life is certainly looking up since then!

I thought this photo was appropriate for the last vacation day of summer and this great dog is still available for adoption from Pet Haven.

My Story: I came all the way from the Red Lake Reservation. My owner did not want me any more and was going to drop me off in a field.

Hobbies: I am in love with life and enjoying all the new experiences of the city. My foster has even taken me up north to a cabin. I got to swim in a lake, too.

Commands/Tricks: So far I have not had any formal training, but I do know sit. Walking on a leash is what I am working on now. It is going pretty well with a Gentle Leader.

Crate / Potty Trained: I am totally housetrained and can be left with free roam of the house while you are at work.

Activity Level: . Medium. Daily exercise is always welcomed. I love those walks around the neighborhood.

Fun things I do: Going for walks, swimming in the lake, car rides, dog parks, whatever you are up to I am glad to tag along. I totally love swimming, so trips to the lake would be a plus. And, I stick around off-leash, too.

Socialization / who I currently live with: I live with my foster dad right now. But I have lived with other dogs and kids too. I have spent lots of time at my foster's cabin. Look at me in the boat.

Chester is attending Pet Haven's medium/large dog adoption events and his adoption fee is $300 (cash or check only) and includes spay/neuter, heartworm check, current vaccinations, and microchip and registration.

Due to post-adoption services provided, it is Pet Haven's policy to only place dogs into homes within a 60-mile radius of the Twin Cities area.

Chester is up-to-date with routine shots, house trained and spayed/neutered.

On Sunday we brought in 4 new dogs Chester, Beulah, Libby, and Scooby from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Thanks to Jenny for delivering these great dogs to us. No idea how you got so many animals in your car.

CHESTERChester is a 40lb lab mix. He is the perfect size for city dwellers and would love daily trips to the dog park. A lake to swim in would be on his dream list too. For the next week Chester will be playing with all the dogs at Auntie Ruth's.

BEULAHBeulah is a 30lb springer/hound mix. At least that is the mix we are guessing for now. Beulah is a shy girl that is slowly coming out of her shell. She will need a patient home where she can experience new things calmly and gain confidence.

LIBBYLibby is a 5 year old registered Sheltie. Her AKC name is Liberty Bloosum Carter. She is hanging out in a foster home with two other Shelties. This may be a quick foster failure situation here.

SCOOBYScooby is a 7 year old registered Sheltie. His AKC name is Prince Scooby III. He slipped out of his collar at the clinic and was found walking down 494. Welcome to the big city Scooby.

We will have more info on Petfinder soon. Most of these dogs will be making their debut on Saturday at our adoption events. Check our website for times and locations.

July 11 transport

Jenny Fitzer, our clinic coordinator made a visit to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue on July 10-11. We worked at the Redby clinic warehouse on Saturday to clean areas for additional clinic space and bedrooms for volunteers. Jenny, Karen, and Shaleigh, a student worker, spent time cleaning some old offices.

On Sunday, July 11, Jenny traveled to the shelter and transported out 10 animals to St. Cloud and the metro as organized with the help of Dani, our transport coordinator.
