Update on Trooper

We are so happy to update Trooper's story.  He was in foster care with Liz and family after he failed the food test at Tricounty.  Liz and her husband drove to Tricounty and decided to take Trooper and work with him to overcome his food aggression.

Here's the happy result! 

 UPDATE FROM LIZ:

Trooper was adopted on August 2nd.  He is doing great!  I have plans to go and meet up with him and bring Lewis (our Red Lake Rosie's Rescue German Shepherd) that misses Trooper.

His new owner is so happy with him.  Says he is so full of personality and so smart and ready to please. They are very active together.

I felt so bad for Trooper when we got him chained in a dog house with no food, no water, no bedding, and he was growling at us, I used little bits of kibble, like E.T. movie to lead him to the van.  He was very pitiful.

Trooper gets a second chance

Trooper was rescued on 11/7/12, off a chain in a dog house with no bedding, no food or water in sight. His ribs were protruding and he was NOT a very happy guy. 

We were able to put food down, and then make a little path of dog kibble and he followed to the van and we put him in a crate. He was starving and dehydrated.  The people said they did not want him, and wanted him gone.

 At Red Lake Rosie's Rescue he ate and gained weight, and was very food aggressive at first, then got better as he began to know food would be available. He went from 35 lbs to over 50 lbs with a medium-sized build. Trooper is about one  year old, with blue eyes, and a black and white coat with silver tips- a very beautiful dog.

Trooper LOVED to play and entertained everyone with his antics. 

He went to Tricounty on March 2nd, but failed the food test. That meant Trooper would have to return to RLRR and hopes for a bright future were dimmed.

After we found out Trooper  needed to return to RLRR, an appeal was made for help, and Liz and Dan of Elk River responded and went to meet Trooper at Tricounty.  Liz and Dan have successfully helped other RLRR dogs with problems in the past.  A huge THANK YOU!! to them.

 LIZ WRITES:

We brought Trooper home yesterday from St Cloud.  They were very nice people to work with.  Jen helped us and got us all his paperwork.

He rode in the back of our pickup (with a topper) on the way home. We put a bed and blanket back there for him.  He was really interested in everything around us, cars going by, etc.  He had no problem jumping up into the truck, very willing.

We introduced him to our dogs right away and took a group walk. Then let them loose in the large fenced dog pen to play.  We have a german shepherd that was an original RLRR dog from back in 2007, he came to us as an adoption reject to work on for re-adoption.  But, we never found him a home and decided to keep him.  He is a great dog and has been a mentor for all of our foster dogs over the years.

Dan took Trooper & Lewis for a long walk this morning and they are playing together in the dog pen right now.  We have the small dog, Nuggs, in the house.  He isn't so much a fan of the cold and snow. So it's nice Trooper is here to keep Lewis company in the pen.  I know Lewis doesn't like to be cooped up in the house all the time, but he's also bored out there alone.

I will keep you updated on his progress.  He really seems like a good spirited dog and willing to learn.  He will make someone a great dog in a few months.

What a Trooper, Magnum!

MAGUM NOW

One day Renee and Curtis contacted us from Ponemah that her mother had a little stray puppy that was beat up by a big dog and she suspected his eye was damaged. Red Lake Rosie's Rescue was happy to take the little boy we named Trooper.

Curtis traveled all the way from Ponemah to deliver the little guy who was not in very good shape. One eye was completely closed and the other one infected.

He had a laceration inside his ear as well. He was very malnourished and dehydrated.

Thankfully Dr. Vickie from Act V responded right away and agreed to take Trooper 3 days later and he went to foster care, and his eye opened without damage, and his wounds were mended.

Act V already had a Trooper so they renamed him Magnum. We wanted to share the pictures of Magnum to document his great makeover.

Here are the pics of Trooper/ Magnum now- what a great change. He is happy, healthy and has prospects for adoption.

Thank you to Renee, Curtis, Act V and their foster homes that mend these little broken ones and for the supporters of the organization who help make this possible for Magnum and others like him.

UPDATE FROM ADOPTER:
We got Trooper from Red Lake Rosie's through Dino last April (2009).
He has been the best dog ever!

He loves dog parks, he listens so well and he absolutely loves going to the groomer.

We love him very much and are thankful to you for having him in our family!

Diesel delights

Hi Everyone,

Thought we'd send another update your way.

Diesel (fka Rusty) just recently turned a year old (we think), and is doing awesome. He's gradually transitioning from goofy puppy and into a more mature and reliable member of the family (not that we have a problem with goofy).

His attitude is nothing short of amazing given his rocky start- his tail is always wagging and he's always happy.

It turns out that he's got an appreciation for music too- his most recent stunt was accompanying the five year old member of our family in a violin/doggie duet.

We cannot express how happy we are that he's a part of our family.

Diesel's Family

Zorro is a real Trooper!

Zorro came as a tiny pup to our November 2009 clinic and went home with his owners. Then one day I found him in my Red Lake Rosie's van while I was at work one day. There was a note attached to the crate that said the children in the house had broken his leg--so he was surrendered to RLRR shelter. We were grateful that Dr. Vickie and Act V Rescue & Rehabilitation were willing to take him.

UPDATE FROM HIS NEW HOME WHERE HIS NEW NAME IS TROOPER:
To all those who can't resist a cute puppy ...

Meet Trooper!!! He is our new family member, and a ridiculously cute one at that!

He came to us this Friday the 8th from a rescue foundation called Act V, here in Minneapolis. We found him less than two weeks ago on Petfinder and we all fell in love with his adorable face and story...Eric kept saying "that's a handsome animal!" Needless to say, it was love at first sight when we met him.

His foster mom Carolyn and her group with Act V did everything right when it comes to saving a dogs life. Carolyn did the most amazing job getting Trooper trained and all set to join a permanent family. We thank her for the gift of such an amazing puppy!

Trooper is almost four months old, is completely house-trained and knows the important commands VERY well. Of course, he has a lot of growing up to do, but we can see how smart he is. Plus he is sweeter than all get out!

We can't wait to do all the things that are better doing with a dog! I'm certain you will all get sick of seeing pictures of him! Our sons are beside themselves with excitement, of course. Eric and I find ourselves gazing at him the way we did the boys when they were newborn!

Anyway...you know what I mean if you have ever loved an animal, cat or dog!

Super Trooper

Here's a great story which had a sad beginning and happy ending:

I first met Trooper on Valentine's Day when his owner brought him over to be treated for mange, and I also gave him a parvo/distemper shot. He was the sweetest little chow/husky mix.

Just a couple weeks later on March 2nd his owner called and said that Trooper was in very bad condition as he was mauled by a large dog. He refused to surrender Trooper to us, but he had no money to vet him. When he told me the bleeding would not stop on his neck, I told him to go to the vet and we would take care of it, so he did.
INJURED TROOPERJust four days later, the owner called again and said Trooper was not doing well at all, and he feared he would die. He surrendered him to us and left him at the vet. Apparently he had neglected to give the antibiotic and Trooper now had an abcess on his back and infection in at least 5 lacerations on his little neck and body.

With antibiotics, water, and good nutrition, he improved rapidly, and went to Dino in Rogers, MN for foster care on March 15th. Read what she says about him now in his new forever home:

TROOPER AND FRIENDS IN FOSTER CARE
Great News !!

Trooper went to his new forever home last night and S. just called me this morning and said everything went wonderful. I had trained him to ring the bell when he needed to go outside and she said he did that twice last night and went out and did his job. He slept right next to their bed and slept all night.

They have one son (2-1/2 yrs old) and the two of them are buddies already. I'm sending a photo that S. sent this morning with Trooper at work -- that's right, she works for someone out of their house and is allowed to bring him with her. Isn't that great?! I am so happy for him and they are keeping the name Trooper!

FURTHER UPDATES FROM ADOPTER:

Trooper is at the office with me today! We're leaving for a walk right now!

Just wanted to let you know that it was another great night last night! He used the bell twice successfully...and so far no accidents, but I've been taking out regularly.

Do you know how he is with water? He's going to be getting his first Petco spa day tomorrow afternoon. So I'm hoping he likes taking a bath and he does ok with it.

We have ducks in our yard that lay way under our big pine trees. So he watched the ducks and the squirrels in the yard this morning and would occasionally bark at them...it was very cute!

Trooper follows my son around everywhere...always needs to know where he's at, but he also knows now that wherever my son is there's a good chance he'll find a stray cheerio or two... :)

I'll keep you updated as often as I can (remember to). He is such a good puppy, so far we are very, very impressed with him!
