Hello Red Lake Rosie's Rescue,

Today we have made a donation to RLRR in honor of our dog Tundra (now 2 1/2 years old). When rescued by RLRR in June 2009, she was called Joanna.

Through the generous donations of RLRR supporters, Tundra had surgery to repair her injured left eye. Our one-eyed lab/husky now competes with the best of them. She won 1st place (and a blue ribbon) in beginner dog obedience.

Here are some pictures from our first skijor race (City of Lakes Loppet).

Joanna/Tundra takes first prize!

Below is an update on Joanna (now Tundra) the little one-eyed white dog from last summer now in her permanent home and Rusty the little mangey boy from the Easter transport now in foster care.

Thought you might enjoy an update on Tundra now that she is 10 months old. She has been busy exploring our yard and fields for underground creatures this mud season.
She also won first place at the Beginner Obedience Class on Monday!

RUSTY UPDATE:
Rusty is doing awesome, he is a completely different dog today full of energy and excitement to play! He never messes in the house only goes outside and will tell you when he has to go, he is amazing.

I have spent a couple hours brushing is coat and it looks completely different already.He has a ways to go with the healing of sores all over his body but is well on his way.

She'll always be Joanna to us

I received a note directly from the pup we came to know at Red Lake as Joanna. She was Angel in foster care, but arrived at her new home with the name of Lily. That could change again, but we hope her happiness never will.

Dear Foster Mom,

Just wanted to let you know I'm really happy in my new home. My new parents took me to visit Grandma & Grandpa. I guess they'll be my babysitters. We went to Petsmart and Chuck & Don's where we bought some new toys and puppy food. I got to play with some other dogs & puppies. All the people were extra nice to me.

When we arrived at my new home, I got to run all the way down the driveway. I'm starting to feel at home. I have a dog bed in every room, but the kitchen is my favorite.

This weekend I got to chase some chickens. You'd have been proud of me, I had my hackles up all along my back. Boy, you should have seen those chickens run. They didn't come back until after dark. I also tried to play with my new cat, Libby. I can't figure out why she doesn't want to play with me, but I'll keep trying. She justs hisses and makes weird noises.

I had to take a bath on Sunday with a special shampoo because some fleas were biting me. Mom caught one of the black specks in my white fur. She called the Vet and got some Frontline for puppies to stop them from biting me.

This week I am learning how to be a "working dog". I get to ride in the pick-up to work each morning. Then I sleep in my bed in the backseat until lunchtime. We go for a walk and get a drink, then I sleep some more until quitting time. After the ride home, I'm full of energy to run down the driveway again.

My folks are talking about changing my name because Lily is too close to Libby and they get the two mixed up. They're waiting to see my true personality before they make a final decision. I'll keep you posted.

Here's a picture of me with one of my new toys... a leftover blanket binding from my human cousin's baby blanket. As you can see, I'm having fun.

Joanna's very happy update!

This photo is first and foremost -- How wonderful is this transformation! Joanna had her injured eye removed and, with the magic of antibiotics, is doing great.

I have placed the photo at the bottom of the post today, because it is quite awful, but please know that things are already improving for little Joanna.

Dear Friends:

We had a little shep pup, about 14 - 16 weeks old arrive at Red Lake Rosie's in the night with the Red Lake Conservation Officer/Animal Control. He said that if I didn't take her, he would have to shoot her.

She had her eye popped out on Friday he said, and didn't say how but the people no longer wanted her, so they called him late last night to pick up and destroy.

She is a darling, and how could I say no.

Anyway, most of you have given so much already and I am not asking that you should give, only that maybe you know someone who would like to contribute to the Clearwater Veterinarian Service, Gonvick, Minnesota 56644 218-487-5227 in her behalf.

She was taken there this morning by Kevin, and our goal is to raise $300 for her surgery to remove the eye.

As you all know we are receiving a steady flow of "broken" animals and although most of our funds are for neuter/spay, we just have not said "no" yet.

We are thankful for the grant of $2000 we got from Friends of Flicka for heartworm treatment and medical, but as you well know after several emergencies and hearworm treatments, these funds are used up quickly.

I think Joanna may have a foster home with the Aitken Pet Hospital group visiting us Wednesday, Dr. Bartsch and vet tech Lindsay, and I am waiting to hear that they will take Joanna when they leave on the weekend.
