Gracie (orginally called Mishkwa) was adopted from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue back in 2009.

UPDATE FROM RLRR ADOPTER:

Merry Christmas!

We would like to wish you a safe, warm and Happy Holiday season and let you know what my Red Lake pups were up to this year – Phoenix, Dylan, Casey & Apollo. 

Phoenix (aka Cinnamon) is still incredible. She has so much energy it’s fun to watch her try to get Dylan and Casey to play with her. She eventually wins and they go running out to the field to chase each other and play. She is learning to talk like Casey, but can’t quite get the howl down, but has so much fun trying! She is still amazingly smart and is such a sweetheart. She’ll always be my little girl among all the boys! I can’t believe she’s 7 years old this year!

Dylan is doing great too! He is very beautiful and has the “husky” way of talking. Quite different than Casey and Phoenix. He loves people – he thinks everyone’s job is to pet him and for him to give kisses. He likes to watch neighbors – he’ll lay down by the fence and just watch them… hoping they’ll come over and pet him! He really likes one of my indoor cats – Axel. When Axel lays upside down, he’ll lay next to him and just stare at him. I think he wonders why he won’t play with him! His nickname of “Prince Dylan” is a perfect representation of him! Dylan turned 6 years old this year.

Casey (aka Eddie) is doing very well. He loves to play with Phoenix and has quite the distinct way of howling / talking. It is very funny seeing how Phoenix tries to mimic him….but she can never quite get the hound howl down like Casey. When he gets excited, he still does his wiggle butt. Phoenix always gets his wiggle butt….we get one once in a while, but not as often as she does. He has many toys and still likes to walk around with a toy in his mouth – whether it’s his “monkey” or a stuffed rabbit. He is quite the crazy little boy – I don’t think he’ll ever grow up. I can’t believe he’s 4 years old. He has quite the personality.

Apollo (the white shepherd) passed away the end of October – he was 13 years old. Dylan and Apollo were quite close – and it took several weeks before Dylan was his normal bubbly self. We still miss him dearly.

Thank you Karen and everyone at Red Lake for helping these kids and all the precious animals in need at Red Lake. Your dedication and commitment is quite remarkable. I love these kids beyond words – thank you for saving them. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Elizabeth: NOT TRASH

Little Elizabeth came in late last night from White Earth Reservation where she had been thrown in the garbage according to a Naytahwaush resident. 

This little dear weighs just six pounds today. She has thinning hair and a musky smell- could be a touch of mange- but also suspect flea dermatitis. 

Amazingly Elizabeth is potty trained and likes to go outdoors to do her business. Her appetite is very good, and she walks well on leash. A very very darling little girl who is a gem. 

She was lucky enough to go to foster care with ACT V Rescue & Rehabilitation and we've had some updates from them already.

UPDATE FROM ACT V:

Elizabeth arrived safely yesterday thanks to the transport by Leech Lake Legacy.

She did pose for one picture with a clear message: No Dumping Allowed.
She transferred to her foster home after a check-up and we will report more on her status as she settles in.

Elizabeth's personality is coming out. (Her foster calls her little Bit )
She's got some spunk...!
This little scruffer is very itchy and we've got her on some medications to try and keep her comfortable. What a cutie!

Aretha/Indy & Lacy

Got this  update and pics of two of our Red Lake Rosie's Rescue dogs who are together in a great home thanks to All Dog Rescue, Pet Haven  and our RLRR team. Indy has been a part of the family for years; Lacy is a foster still looking for her forever home.

NOTE FROM ADOPTER:

I just wanted to send you a quick update on two Red Lake dogs...

My husband and I adopted Indy (formerly Aretha) through All Dog Rescue in July 2010. I believe she came into your care March of that year when she was found in the garbage dump. 

INDY AND HER FAMILY

Indy is such an integral part of our family; she goes with us everywhere and touches all she meets with her kind, gentle spirit. She is an amazing big sister to our 11 month old son and is also a huge hit with our 2-year-old nieces.

LACY (LEFT) IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THRU PET HAVEN

We are now fostering Lacy through Pet Haven. Indy is showing her the ropes and she is just a lovely girl and LOVING the indoor life. Learn more about Lacy here:

Fiona, Part II

FROM LISA:
On September 27th, I met Tom and Nancy for a transport of animals from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue to the cities, my truck was quite full and there was one more dog to squeeze in. Since there was no way her kennel was going to fit, I said to Tom and Nancy, "This one's riding shotgun with me" and so she did.

As I do with every transport, we had long conversations. It's quite amusing, and Fiona was truly listening. We became instant buddies. As we got closer to the humane society, I said to her, "What do ya think?" Our eyes just locked...and let's just say, we blew past her stop, and I'm so glad we did!!!

I was very nervous as we approached home, not knowing anything about her past, I was a little concerned how she would be with my other two dogs and cat.

She was very frightened to come in the house and didn't eat for almost a week. When I brought her to our vet, she was treated for Lymes disease and an intestinal worm that's not much seen here in the Cities. I had to give her a huge syringe of medication orally for ten days, but she was so good with that.

After trying 15 different foods, I finally nailed it...rabbit from Chuck and Don's Pet Food Outlet. It figures because it was the most expensive choice! HaHaHa! Now she's eating what the other dogs eat and rabbit just for a treat.

She gets along with all my other buddies, and yes, she made it in the house after a few pushes and is just loving it!!! It was funny watching her cross the threshold. At first she cowered severely when I would put her on a leash, but now she can't wait for walks.

FIONA/SHEBA, LISA, MARLYS

I truly believe for Fiona (now named Sheba), it's like Christmas morning every time she wakes up on her big comfy couch. She is so appreciative of her new family...that's what I just love about all these wonderful dogs that come into our lives from the reservation.

Fiona, Part I

Fiona arrived as a very frightened girl on Memorial Day from the town of Red Lake. She arrived with another scared little puppy. They were put in kennels and so began their healing.

Fiona would not leave the kennel at first despite urging. Finally after a week, I opened the kennel door and let her come out as she felt safe and comfortable. Little by little she inched her way out, and although she was aloof, finally made friends with some of the other dogs.

It was soon discovered that she already had been spayed at one of our clinics, but a test sadly showed she was positive for heartworm. She was treated at the Cornerstone Vet and after waiting several weeks was retested and was negative. She was scheduled to go to a humane society.

But Fiona's life took a turn on the transport. Read tomorrow's post to learn what happened!
