Indy is part of the family

Our update on Aretha/Indy on Dec. 6, prompted some more photos and comments from her family.

ADOPTER UPDATE:

A HUGE thank you to both Karen and Shelley, Indy (formerly Aretha) is such an integral part of our family, we are ever grateful to both of you for caring for her until she found her way home. 

Here a few more photos of her... In our wedding, watching over our son sleeping shortly after he came home from the hospital, and just recently hanging out with Wyatt.

Wyatt thinks the sun rises and sets on Indy. Even if he's inconsolable and wants nothing to do with mom or dad, Indy can always bring a smile to his face.

Got this  update and pics of two of our Red Lake Rosie's Rescue dogs who are together in a great home thanks to All Dog Rescue, Pet Haven  and our RLRR team. Indy has been a part of the family for years; Lacy is a foster still looking for her forever home.

I just wanted to send you a quick update on two Red Lake dogs...

My husband and I adopted Indy (formerly Aretha) through All Dog Rescue in July 2010. I believe she came into your care March of that year when she was found in the garbage dump.

Indy is such an integral part of our family; she goes with us everywhere and touches all she meets with her kind, gentle spirit. She is an amazing big sister to our 11 month old son and is also a huge hit with our 2-year-old nieces.

LACY (LEFT) IS AVAILABLE FOR ADOPTION THRU PET HAVEN

We are now fostering Lacy through Pet Haven. Indy is showing her the ropes and she is just a lovely girl and LOVING the indoor life. Learn more about Lacy here:

Indy: Home at last

Although we adopted Indy (fka Aretha) in mid-July, she came into our lives in May, when she was first added to Petfinder.com. My boyfriend, J~, and I were waiting for our offer on a short-sale townhome to go through and were not in a position to get a dog but when I saw Indy's ad, it was love at first sight.

The purchase was drawn out, but in late June we finally heard back and after a few weeks of utter chaos, the house was finally ours. Only then did we find out that the home association did not allow dogs over 25 pounds. I was shattered, as Indy was, amazingly, still available for adoption!

With J's support, I decided to pursue Indy anyway, hoping that the board might make an exception for such a great dog. I also mentioned in our letter of appeal that I intended to take her through therapy training so that we could volunteer together at local nursing homes and hospitals.

I'm entering graduate nursing school this fall and currently work at a nursing home -- I love to see how my residents react when people bring dogs in to visit and can't wait to help spread that comfort and joy to residents and patients with my own dog. On a wonderful Friday afternoon, word finally came through that the board had waived the 25 pound limit and we could bring Indy home.

Although I kept telling myself I had built her up in my mind and to realize that no dog could ever live up to those expectations, she actually managed to exceed all my dreams. Her beautiful little face was ten times more arresting in person and when we got in the car to drive home she jumped into my lap, curled up and fell fast asleep for the hour-long ride. Our hearts melted, and it really seemed as though Indy knew she was going home.

We've had Indy for a while now and she is doing phenomenally well. We're getting to know all the neighbors and dogs in our area on our daily walks, she has become best buds with my sister's and parents' dogs, and we will be starting obedience class this week (I'm already certain she will be at the top of her class).

We will follow that up with therapy dog training, and as soon as we are ready will be sharing Indy's love and comfort with the residents at the nursing home where I work, and at other local long term care facilities and acute care centers.

We can't thank Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and All Dog Rescue enough -- Indy has already become an integral part of our family, our loved and cherished fur-baby. We're so grateful that RLRR rescued her and that she was so well taken care of and loved by Shelley's family until she finally found her way home.

Oh what a beautiful story--I am SOOO happy tonight to read about our dear Aretha getting this great home and a chance to be an ambassador for the pit bulls!!! Love it!!

Aretha is now Indy

Aretha was found at the Red Lake garbage dump on 3/29/10. She had mange on her face-and walked with a limp.

She was about 4 months when we found her-- she was adorable and quickly became a favorite at the shelter, however, because she was a pit mix, it was hard to find her a placement. She remained at the shelter as dogs would come and go--finally on May 15 she got her chance and left for All Dog Rescue to a foster home with Shelly.

They fell in love with her, as everyone did who ever met her, and now we are hopeful for a forever home for her.

UPDATE:
I have attached a few cute pictures of Indy (formerly Aretha). I just wanted to let you know how well she is doing. She is a doll. She just adores my husband and follows him everywhere. If she is not adopted soon there are going to be tears at my house when she is adopted. My husband and son both ADORE her!

In one picture she is seen making sure my husband's head and ears are clean then after she was done she laid down in his lap flat on her back and fell asleep while he rubbed her belly.

In another picture she is seen making sure my son did not overexert himself this past holiday weekend. She is pictured holding him down to make sure he was watching enough TV.

The last picture is of her sunbathing on our deck.

You should see her with the two 8 week old puppies I am fostering. I think they think she is their mama. They love to chase after her and climb on her and then cuddle down next to her for a nap. When all the dogs go into a kennel when I leave for work, the puppies climb to the corner of their crate that is closest to Indy and just wag their tails. It is so adorable.

I am so glad I have Indy. She is such a love bug. Someone is going to get themselves a VERY wonderful dog in Indy.

Bronson thanks you!

Bronson, our recent amputee, is one happy dog and wants to say thank you to all the kind people who pledged money to help pay his vet bill!

BRONSONAlso, thanks to Animal Ark for their kindness in taking Bronson for his aftercare and adoption. What a great dog he is!

BRONSONWhat started out to be a transport to get Bronson out to fostercare, turned into a transport to get 14 dogs and puppies out to potential forever homes.

TRANSPORT TEAMKaren, Carol, and her daughter brought animals to Bemidji and met the O'Sullivans who went on with the dogs and puppies to Motley where they met DeeDee who took the last leg to the metro area with Bronson trying to snuggle onto her lap.

JANNAJanna was found on the highway in the middle of nowhere. Waldo came from the Bemidji Pound scheduled to be euthanized. Both of them were transported to TriCounty.

BRADY & DUSTYDUSTYBRADYBrady and Dusty were 2 feral pups tamed by Carol and her family and taken by All Dog Rescue.

ARETHAARETHAAretha, a little pit bull lab mix, got a special placement with All Dog Rescue. We found her at the garbage dump in March and really had no place to take her because of her breed. She was a very sweet dog and I'm so glad she is getting a chance.

GARVINGARVINGarvin was a lonely little shep pup who got to go to TLC where we found out he was happy to join 3 other puppies.

FIVE PUPSFIVE PUPSA litter of 5 unwanted pups arrived the night before the transport and thankfully went to Tricounty for adoption.

LACEYLacey was a beautiful juvenile shepherd found as a stray with a tight collar. She had obviously been on a chain all her life. Her fur was all mottled with metal around her neck which is evidence of long-term chaining. We are hoping that will never happen to her again. She also went to Tricounty.
