Louie: Look out for that tail!

During the October spay/neuter clinic two Golden mix dogs came in with hard-luck stories, Louie and Rufus (see post from yesterday). Poor Louie has lived on the streets of one of the villages. We tried to catch him on many occasions. When we park to shuttle animals to the clinic, we leave kibble for the dogs. He would come to every shuttle pickup site to hungrily eat, but he would run off. Finally, Heather and Jayson were able to catch him and RAGOM (Retrieve A Golden Of Minnesota) took him into foster care!

RAGOM FOSTER WRITES:
We have had Louie for over two weeks now, and have come to know him better. For one thing, he is not good with cats. He chases cats and squirrels, and loves to spend his day sitting in the backyard looking in the trees for squirrels. 

He lets me know he needs to go out by coming to me and doing a happy dance while panting. He is just starting to learn his name and usually comes when asked, unless he is preoccupied with something else, like a squirrel. 

Initially, Louie was unsure about getting in the car, but now he knows it means a walk, so he is happy to oblige. He has started playing with our resident dog. Did well with the people at RAGOM's Meet and Greet in Duluth Petco, and spent quite a bit of time enjoying pets from two little girls, then started following them when they got up to leave.

Louie never jumps on people; he is a calm dog. Louie really charmed the vet -- he sat waiting for the vet to emerge from the back room to the exam room, and happily greeted him even though Louie had never met the vet before. 

Louie absolutely loves tummy rubs. Cocks his head when he is trying to understand something he hears or sees. Louie has been described as having the fastest wagging tail this side of the Mississippi, just check out the photos! Loves to be petted and brushed. Sleeps on a dog bed, but enjoys coming up on our bed in the evenings to relax and be petted.

Content sitting in the house and also enjoys walks. Not food motivated. Vet identified many broken and missing teeth (recommended extracting 3 teeth in the future), and previous cut to the side of his tongue indicating Louie sustained a severe trauma to the mouth at least 6 months ago or more; the molar teeth are all intact and look good. Vet commented on how Louie is trusting and very friendly.

Louie was adopted today! He is going to have a mom and dad all to himself, a deck to sit on and watch squirrels, and an official title of 'King Louie!" Lucky dog!

Lucky #7: Caruso (Louie)

Seven little pups came from Ponemah to Red Lake Rosie's Rescue and then moved to foster care with Linda of All Dog Rescue. We have already had updates on Cassie (Sadie), Chessie (Zedel), Cheyanne (Basil), and Cruiser (Niko).

This was Caruso, the last adopted of the litter of 7 - who knows why, but I guess someone always has to be last. Caruso LOVED his water when with me - his water dish had become his swimming pool!

REPORT FROM NEW HOME TO LINDA:

Things are going great! Louie has certainly come out of his shell. Much of his shyness has turned into curiosity and friendliness with all the socialization he is getting. He's also doing great at dog school. Learns new tricks seamlessly and seems proud to do so. He made a best friend with my family dog Mason and still loves to play in the water.

Thank you for sending the pix of his siblings. He looks just like his sister Sadie! Thank you also for taking such good care of a great pup. We are certainly able to tell he received a ton of love prior to us adopting him.

Louis (formerly Elias)

NOTE FROM ADOPTER:
Louie's been pretty good. I think we need to spend more time with him training him. He still thinks some of the kids toys are his, but for the most part he has been great.

Here are some current pictures of him, he is the first dog I have ever witnessed who can sleep upside down or with his feet in the air. Our old dog Barkely never used the dog bed we had, but Louie loves it.

Everything is going great with Louie. He is quite the character, very smart dog as he lets you know in different ways when he wants something.

We have had a dog bed that my wife bought for Barkley years ago, he would never lay on it. Louie(Cream Soda) has no problems nestling right in the thing and making a lot of noise before he falls asleep.

We also found, he is extremely fast dog, but loyal as he has not ventured out of our large yard yet.

The only thing that seems odd, is he doesn't seem to like basements, I have a nice office downstairs but he will not walk down the stairs yet.

All in all, he was a great find!

Three-Legged Louie

Pet Haven has posted an update on their dog blog about Louie who came from RLRR:
Louie is a 4 year old aussie/sheltie mix who came to us from Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Little Lou is a tripod - missing one of his back legs. You would never know it from the way that he gets around though! Louie has been hanging out with his foster mom for a few months now, waiting for his forever home!

Louie loves to play with other dogs of all sizes and does well at the dog park. He is housebroken and is used to free roam of a room when his foster mom is gone. He does whine when she leaves, but settles down quickly (she has spied on him and checked with the neighbors as well). He doesn't chew anything inappropriate. Louie loves to ride in the car. Daily exercise is a must, but he also likes to settle down and snuggle in to watch TV at night. He knows basic commands: sit, come, stay, shake, roll over and stay. Louie does give indications that he would chase motorcycles if he could, so a fenced yard would be ideal for this pooch; however he currently lives in a townhome and does just fine on a tie out.

LOUIE has 3 legs.
SONOMA was chained all her life and all the hair was gone from her neck.
They have a great life now and prospects for adoption.

I met Sonoma last night while in class with one of my rescued dogs.
She was so sweet and beautiful. It's a beginner obedience class and her foster mom, K, brought her.

The minute I saw her, I thought: Boy, does she remind me of the wonderful Red Lake Dogs.
