Miss Charlie moves on to a better life

CHARLIE BEFORE

Charlie, the Doberman/Rottweiler-mix dog, left Red Lake Rosie’s Rescue on May 2nd headed for foster care with the Doberman Rescue Minnesota (www.dobermanrescueminnesota.com). Charlie was getting healthier each day and has gained lots of weight. When she came she was severely malnourished with mange and evidence she had taken a round of buckshot. See original post HERE.

She is such a wonderful dog and we are sorry to see her leave but are so happy that she gets a second chance at a great rescue.

Charlie will have a great life ahead of her as an indoor dog and will be well cared for.

During her stay here at the Red Lake Rosie's shelter she became happy as her health improved. She learned to run and play; when she arrived she only walked very slowly. She had many friends here, and we will miss her! Such a sweet personality.

April Clinic success

KIM AND PUP

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue hosted the second 2014 neuter/spay clinic on April 24-26 with vet work supplied by a team from MN SNAP headed by Dr. Lisa. 

The team did an outstanding job neutering or spaying 96 community and shelter animals as well as providing emergency care for animals with quills and other needs. Many large female dogs were spayed making the clinic especially successful.

PORCUPINE QUILLS

The service of grooming was provided by Julie and her mother Norma. Their hard work makes life so much better for many dogs that otherwise would not get trimmed and bathed.

FRESHLY GROOMED PUPS

Once again, Claudia provided great vegetarian cuisine which provides nourishment for everyone. In addition, thanks to Tera for her homemade vegan goodies and thanks to Rita for her delicious homemade treats.

GREAT FOOD!

Volunteers ran shuttles to pick up and deliver animals from Ponemah, Red Lake, Little Rock and Bigstone communities. This service helps animals that otherwise would not get to the clinic.

RLRR VAN PROVIDED SHUTTLE SERVICE

One of the very positive indicators that we are making progress in controlling the unwanted animal population on the Reservation is that we only took in five surrendered puppies at this clinic. In the past we have taken in scores of surrendered unwanted puppies and kittens. Also, we saw less mange, indicating that the animals are getting better care. More community members were saying “thank you” and were pleased with the services we

provide.

The weather was not the best, but, in spite of that, our volunteers and MN Snap did a great job of which they can be proud!

Our volunteers included Amy, Kim, Allison, Jill, Rita, Benay, Elizabeth, Nicholas, Tom, Nancy, Carol. And, special thanks to Whitney, our young local volunteer, who keeps us all on track!

We thank everyone who was here and the many people who work in the background including those who make food, rescues that take animals, and those who contribute funds to cover the cost of the clinics. RLRR pays MN SNAP per animal for their services and needs to have funds in the account to pay for this vital service.

RLRR at 2014 MN Horse Expo

NOTE FROM DEB:

Red Lake Rosie's Rescue made its second appearance at the 2014 Minnesota Horse Expo with an informational booth and items to sell. We were able to share what RLRR does with new friends of the rescue, as well as update those that are familiar with us.

 Without the support and help of great volunteers who made items for fundraising, we could not do this. Not only are our volunteers generous, but they are also creative as everything has to be handmade. We had jewelry, dog tags, stuffed hedgies (toy made out of a carwash mitt), cat nip mice, pop bottle covers, elevated beds, dog/cat pads for sleeping, cat beds, totes, potholders, cat nip toys and last, but not least, homemade dog treats! 

We also had two very special guests of honor with us on Friday. Koko was rescued about 8 years ago from some teenage boys that were playing football with him and his littermate on Red Lake Reservation. The Abraham family knew when they saw him at the foster home, that he was going to live with them. They were more then happy to share him with us on Friday so that he could be our ambassador dog. The Abrahams also raise angora goats....yep, we had a bottle baby goat by the name of Luna with us as well. That really got people to come into the booth and chat! We are not above using dogs and kids (baby goat) to get attention! 

Rachel, the young lady sitting with Koko, also happens to own Autumn...a wild horse from Theodore Roosevelt National Park and now a trail horse.

Crumpet is 5!!

CRUMPET

Crumpet was a little homeless dog wandering the streets of the Reservation, until he was rescued by Red Lake Rosie's Rescue. Crumpet was so lucky to be adopted by Susan, who had founded the ABE!Fund in memory of her previous dog.

Each year she has a birthday party for Crumpet and raises funds for RLRR. We are so grateful for her generosity and even more happy for Crumpet's great life.

NOTE FROM ADOPTER SUSAN:

The "Pride of the Red Lake Reservation", Crumpet, is 5 !!!....give or take a few weeks.

He cannot wait for his daily walk with his much beloved girlfriend "Izzy", the schnoodle, and ALWAYS watches over his little sister "Caity", the 9 1/2 year old black and tan Cavalier. 

Chasing squirrels remains his top top priority in life but a good snooze is never far from his mind!

Faith is doing great and getting big. She attended her first puppy classes last week and is now 25 pounds. Attached are some recent pictures.

Elsa's pup, Cash

What a gorgeous pup - Cash was the last of Elsa's pups to be adopted - what a big boy he is going to be!!!

NOTE FROM ADOPTERS:

Cash is really a great pup. Pretty mellow guy and for the most part behaves great. It might help that he lives on a farm and gets plenty of hikes in a day and often has buddies to run around with too. He's taking a liking to the chickens and cat but not in a good way.

LITTLE CASH

He's a great co-pilot too. Gets in the car and goes right to sleep. We did a road trip yesterday with him for 8 hours and slept the whole time.
