Clarence is gonna need a new sweater!

Remember darling little Clarence in his special Vikings sweater? Well, as puppies tend to do, he has grown -- a lot -- and is probably still growing! We received an update from his new family:

CLARENCE BEFOREJust wanted to send an update on our wonderful Red Lake puppy, Clarence!

Clarence is doing wonderfully and growing into a beautiful dog. He now lives in St. Paul and has a fenced in yard to run and explore. Clarence has two kitty brothers, Jasper and Mauser, who he loves to chase and play with. He is up to 50 lbs and still growing, we’re always wondering how big he is going to get!

Clarence has a magnetic personality and charms everyone he meets. He loves to go on walks, and will lay down and wait patiently to meet a new dog or kid. Everyone is always so curious about what kind of dog he is.

Thanks so much to those who played a part in Clarence’s rescue. He is truly a one in a million dog, and we are so lucky to have him as part of our family!

Clarence & Zoe's family reunion

Clarence was discovered by his new family on the Twin Cities Puppy Bowl site.

CLARENCEWhen they took Clarence to his first puppy class at Canine Coach, he had a surprise reunion with one of his littermates. There were only six puppies in the class and one of them turned out to be Clarence's sister, now called Zoe.

ZOE & CLARENCEThe last time the pups were together was the day Clarence almost froze to death. His four sisters had managed to stay huddled together. But independent Clarence had strayed away from the pack.

Now both pups are safe and loved in their new homes. What a happy ending!

Every time a bell rings...

Clarence was found at the garbage dumpster at Battle River by Polly on the coldest night so far, near a 30 below wind chill.

Clarence was at the dumpster with 6 other puppies. They were very scared and Polly was only able to catch 4. She made several trips to the dumpster that cold night, and made a fire for them, however, only was able to get one more little black one- we named Clarence who looked very different from the others. He looked like a terrier wire-haired mix. Two of the puppies froze to death before we could get them.

So, Clarence and the others came to the RLRR shelter, and it was here that Clarence had his second brush with death. It seemed the other 4 did not include Clarence, and as an outsider, he wandered away from the strawed area and was found laying the next morning very near death.

DeeDee wrapped him in a blanket and rubbed life back into him, and later he was placed on a heating pad. Miraculously this little guy with so much spirit made it, was moved into Karen's house and would never have to be outside again.

The other 4 went on to Pet Projects where last we heard they are doing well.

Clarence made a Christmas trip to his foster home with Anne who also has Elbert, another dumpster pup.
