Athena

We are so happy that Athena got to go to Dr. Vickie at Act V on Saturday July 9th.

Athena and one of her pups was rescued by DeeDee during the May MN SNAP clinic at Red Lake. Athena has 2 injured legs, and was full of quills when Dee Dee found her. She was starving and dehydrated and had no energy to even get up. Dee Dee carried her to her car and her journey of healing began.

After her quills were removed, she was spayed and vaccinated. Her legs, front and rear were injured, possibly an old injury. She was bearing weight on her front leg and would hop on 3 legs. As she gained strength and got better she started bearing weight on the rear leg too.

Her eye began to show redness a few days ago, and then it got white and infected. Thankfully Dr. Vickie was able to take Athena and we are hoping to save her eye and also to help her with her legs. We think that her eye infection is related to perhaps a quill that is deep in her face.

Athena is a very sweet dog, and is well worth all the efforts to make her life more pleasant after all that she has been through. Whomever adopts Athena is going to quickly realize they have a real gem!

Thank you Dee Dee and Act V for helping Athena.

UPDATE FROM ACT V:
Sooo..unfortunately Athena is going to lose her right eye. A quill nicked the lens in her eye and fluid leaked out causing a cataract and glaucoma. The ophthalmologist is hoping to put in an artificial eye so she'll look better. Her surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday.

Otherwise she is doing well. I think she was walking so badly because of Lymes disease. I'll keep you posted with pics!!
