Another cooperative transport

We had another great cooperative transport with Red Lake Rosie's, Leech Lake Legacy, and Bemidji Pound animals on Saturday, September 2nd.

Barbie Olson, the O'Sullivans and Karen were the drivers for this transport.

The following is from Marilou:

We had quite the welcoming committee at Golden Valley with Jenny's sister and nieces and then the rescues coming to pick up the animals! It was like a big party in front of AHS' intake area, and of course, a lot of the AHS folks came out to join the party!!

And Martha, you will be happy to know that your three kitties got LOTS and LOTS of love and attention from Jenny's nieces!! :) and the volunteer from Second Hand Hounds who came to pick up Peck, Phish and Plenty was sooo excited to meet them and transport them ....

and Karen: St. Francis Rescue let me know that they would take very good care of the litter of 5 pups ....

A million thanks to everyone who made it possible for 20 animals to move onto the next stage of their journey in finding their forever home!!

June 30 Transport

This was a combined transport with two Red Lake Rosie's Rescue dogs, and 18 other animals from Leech Lake Legacy, Bemidji Pound, and Roseau Pound!

It shows how teamwork and cooperation improves opportunities for the animals we serve!

GINNYGinny came in as a surrender at the clinic. She came in the last day so we did not get her spayed at the clinic, however, when taken to Gonvick vet they found the scar and tattoo so we knew she had visited one of our previous clinics.

AURORAAurora was found by Polly under a porch as a stray with cockleburs all over her fur. Both Ginny and Aurora got to go to All Dog Rescue.

Thanks to Marilou for sharing her photos!

Thank you all-

Record 73 animals at RLRR this weekend

RLRR had a record high of 73 animals on Saturday at 9:00 p.m. when a little pup was surrendered that was found on the highway in Red Lake. We are so thankful that 19 animals left on Sunday morning for a chance to find their forever homes.

LAUREN AND ORPHAN PUPSJaycee recently went "on strike" so Lauren spent time bottling the orphans.Lauren and Mike arrived on Friday night and spend Saturday working at the shelter on various projects. We are very thankful for their dedication and many trips they have made to help Red Lake animals.

SPRINKLESprinkle went to Lauren and Mike for foster care- this little kitten was irresistible.

THREE HUSKY PUPS AND LONE PUP3 husky pups plus the one lone pup went to Animal Ark foster home. They left Sunday morning fully loaded with animals going to Tricounty Humane Society, All Dog Rescue, Animal Ark, Pet Projects, and to RLRR foster care homes. A special thanks to all these groups who are helping us out by taking in animal during a very high volume season.

Another successful transport on August 15

BOLT & BONNIEBARBARA AND BOLTWe had another transport on August 15th. When Barbara emailed me a week ago and offered a transport, I was almost sure we would not have enough animals or placements to have a transport- but I said yes that we would plan one.

NANCY, CAROLYN AND BARBARA BUSYWell, during the week we had many animals come to us, and many rescues and groups stepping forward to take animals including Tricounty Humane Society, All Dog, Pet Haven, TLC rescue, Pet Projects, and Lindsay of Akin Hills Pet Hospital.

ODESSAAs the kennels filled up and Mike and I getting overwhelmed, we also contacted Headwaters and were able to get a placement of 3 dogs, Wes, Odessa and Maggie. Once again Carolyn and Nancy O'Sullivan responded to the need and also took this leg of the journey.

WESWes is such a hoot, and went to Headwaters. He loves to dance on his hind legs!! He was neutered and has all his shots. He came to RLRR after the owner said that they wanted him removed and that he was "mean". Well, Wes was not mean- he was a very friendly dog with a very bright future.

MAGGIEWe met at 10:00 am in Bemidji and I have included some pictures of the transfer of donated food, crates, and they took the "valuable cargo", doggies and kitties on to their destinations. A total of 13 dogs and puppies, and 12 cats and kittens went on the journey. We had one tiny kitten, only a few ounces that went to foster care at Tricounty.

SKIPPERWe are very happy that Skipper went to Pet Haven

MICKEYMickey, Aussie mix went to All Dog

SEVEN TINY KITTENSA very tiny litter of 7 kittens came to the shelter.

TINIEST KITTENJolene bottle-fed the tiniest who is pictured with Carolyn.

TWO KITTENSTwo of the kittens are going to Akin Hills Pet Hospital and the other 5 to Tricounty to a foster home. The kittens came with eye infection and were taken to the vet. We only had the litter of 4 days, but we still have 16 cats at the rescue and more waiting to come in.

FOUR SHEP PUPSThank you to all the transporters, donators, receiving rescues and agencies who made this transport possible.

Sincerely, Karen

Weekend at Red Lake Rosie's

Not only did Lauren and Mike help at RLRR for the weekend and drive down a huge transport of animals, but they got stuck in the big traffic jam on Hwy 94 and the trip home (which is usually about six hours with stops) was extended by THREE MORE HOURS. OMG!!! Following is Lauren's account of the weekend.

This past weekend Mike and I went up to the shelter to help out and transport some animals back. We ended up transporting a little over 20 animals to the Twin Cities. It was an extremely long car ride home (because 94 was closed and we were detoured, which took an extra 3 hours!).CAT HOUSE PAINT JOBIn addition to socializing with all of the great animals up there, we started painting the cat house. We completed the front of the house, so the back will have to be finished by other volunteers this summer. The weather was perfect, so painting was a great project! We also used the new road that had just been completed and it was great! Smooth sailing all the way!

NEW ROADThank you to Karen and Mike W. for all you both do up at the shelter. And a big thank you to all of the transporters and fosters who were very patient with us when we arrived 3 hours late to drop off the animals. One more thank you to Act V Rescue, which took in Sheila, a young, sweet Shepard mix, who was left without a foster home when she arrived in the cities. It's great to see all of the animal rescue groups working together in order to help the many animals in need!

Next clinic is May 28-31

CONTACT DEEDEE AT dewelles@comcast.net FOR MORE INFORMATION

The next spay/neuter clinic is scheduled for Thursday, May 28 - Sunday, May 31. This is a combined clinic with Animal Ark, Akin Animal Hospital and another vet, Dr. Atarassov. This is a larger clinic, so we need more volunteers to support it.

The clinics are a lot of work, but are also very rewarding. It is a special experience to be with all of the animals and to meet and work with others who are "animal people," too. I always enjoy getting out into the country, as well.

If any of you are available to go up for the clinic, please let me know.

WARNING: Your heart may be stolen!

On January 30th. my friend Ruth and I went up to Karen's to help out and to transport back to the metro. It was a good trip and an extremely smooth transport, meeting all our connections right on schedule.Ruth, a veteran Wisconsin animal advocate was so impressed with Karen and her mission that she is looking forward to returning and in the meantime, becoming an active supporter of Rosie's RedLake Rescue.
RUTH & CRYSTAL, RHODA & GINGERThere were over twenty animals scheduled for the transport. The night before we arrived, Karen was made aware of a starving little dog begging for food on a street corner. It was apparent by the sores and scabs on her emaciated body, and her frost bitten paws that she had survived the winter on her own.
JENNYSince there wasn't a plan for this little girl, she came home with me. A trip to the vet resulted in all of her shots, a treatment plan for her mange, and confirmation of her age to be about four months. With medication, baths, vitamins, nutritious food, and a lot of love and attention Jenny has blossomed into a real beauty.

As one of our ambassadors at the Pet Expo at the Convention Center in Minneapolis, Jenny charmed and fascinated visitors. She was literally bombarded with attention and requests to adopt her.
KAREN AND ANOOKIt was a wonderful opportunity to show people that these dogs, like Jenny, abandoned, discarded, and left to die are not only intelligent, loving, and attractive, but they have a spirit of appreciation and joy. These traits are not exclusive in Jenny, but are found over and over again in the animals Karen saves.
TONY BALONIEI think Karen needs a sign at Rosie's Rescue that reads "Warning, your heart may be stolen".
